I am going off of feel and maybe someone can provide the stats, but our defense, on first downs, appeared to be really pathetic yesterday. Seemed like the Rams were always ripping off big 1st down chunks and faced a lot of "3rd and short" because of it.
Maybe Wyatt is really important. But yeah, it's a problem. Maybe a new D line coach too. I don't know who we have or what his experience is. If the experience is only years at GB; can't say that is a positive.

Evan Williams going from not even half or barely any the first four weeks to playing all 78 snaps on Defense is a MASSIVE signal to his maturation and if you hear Xavier McKinney touch on both he and Javon's future it makes you feel incredible about those three for the coming years. Evan is that hybrid guy that can literally sub down into the box, split out on a TE or WR...cover a RB or roll into deep coverage.
Agree. The Packers have gone from having below average safeties to having one of THE best and 2 that could eventually be considered top Safeties as well. Gute hit a homerun this off season when it comes to fixing the position. I also like the fact that McKinney just turned 25 in August, yet he plays like a 10 year vet. His influence on Williams and Bullard has to be a positive thing.

Add in McKinney's contract and Packer fans just have to be thrilled at how solid and reasonably priced that position will be for years to come.

Jason Rebrovich is the new DL coach. I don't think the issues on the DL are all to blame on him, at least not yet. I agree that missing Wyatt is a blow to the DL, but I can't tell you how many times I saw Clark just blow by ball carriers yesterday. His play and Rashan Gary's play this season, have so far been underwhelming to me.

I know the 3-4 is a new system and still a work in progress, but for as much money as both Gary and Clark are making, we need to get more out of them.

I know you meant the 4-3 is new...
I think the big-runs issue is more on the ILB's than the DL's. It seemed that Walker consistently filled the wrong hole & couldn't make the stop on the RB. Now that I type that, maybe it IS a DL issue IF there were 2 holes for the RB to choose from?

I found it interesting that for a Defense that allowed 76 plays for 370 yards and 24 1st Downs of production. Hafley only gave up 12 points. Then you consider we played without one of our best DL and best DB in Alexander and Wyatt
And Rochelle went down early with the stinger.

Not sure we have been strong at safety since Nick Collins went down.

Very true. ILBs in the middle make the run stops when the DL clogs the middle. Been a while since we had one or two that were pure run stoppers. Desmond Bishop comes to mind. Hawk was only average.

I have a feeling Hopper is going to be good at that.

Yeah, oops....4-3 is new.

While I think Walker needs to improve, I also think our interior 2, on the DL, need to play smarter. Again, just going off of "feel", but it seemed like the Rams DC saw something on film and on several plays, Kenny Clark was left unblocked and allowed to just "shoot the gap" and the runner would go right by him and through that gap. Van Ness and Gary were taking themselves out of running plays quite a bit too.

I get the feeling that our DL seems to be so focused on QB pressures and sacks, that at times they are forgetting about the run. Other teams OC's are going to feed on that with misdirection and sending people in motion to move Walker.

Again, I am not a big X and O guy, just going off of a feel. :)

Alexander got suspended last season for a game and we won it.
Yup and he has played better and stayed somewhat quiet ever since. I assume that when they suspend a player for conduct that is detrimental to the team, they lose something off of their paycheck as well. In todays NFL, money seems to be the #1 motivation to many players, so hit them where it hurts the most...money and social media. :D

Doubs is on a platform right now. He can 100% use this to his favor if he believes it. His best “new beginning” imo is to start by admitting he’s made a mistake UNLESS something happened that jeopardizes his safety or the safety of someone else.

My advice to him. In this life it’s not how you START that matters.. it’s how you FINISH.
That you are able to repeat that as your legacy. God showed me that one day when he displayed how he saved the guy hanging next to him on that tree. Words hold immense power so be careful to choose them well. They can life altering.

Listen. We ALL make mistakes. I’ve made plenty, so you could say I’m an expert. It’s what you AFTER that mistake that defines what kind of man or woman you are. Stay humble. Stay focused and disciplined… until “IT IS Finished”

For whatever reason, I like to imagine or Guess the monetary $$ number that a particular great game or negative action has.
Such as Ty Montgomery. How much $$ did he lose by returning that last Kick? Had he just followed instructions and we went on to win that game?
Brandon Bostick. If he just laid would on that Onside Kick. What if that led to us winning a Super Bowl? At minimum he’d have that on his resume.

Boneheaded plays may cost a player his career or a reduced next contract, but it also can cost a franchise a lot of money in lost playoff revenue. How much did the Packer franchise and players lose when they choked out their in Seattle during the NFCCG?

Yes. Like me for example. Whenever I watch my beloved Sports team? we go down to the last :03 seconds before knowing the outcome. If I don’t watch? We lose or win by 2-3 scores. Imagine the agony I’ve caused millions of people by simply watching the Packers.

Maybe Narveson shouldn't unpack his things just yet. Gute brought another kicker in yesterday to workout, Tanner Brown. Brown was an UDFA out of Oklahoma State that the Rams signed last year. Since then he hasn't kicked in a game and has been on and off the Rams PS. They cut him loose on 10/1. His final year at OSU was actually pretty impressive. He was 22 of 23 on FG's and perfect on XP's. Maybe a guy that keep an eye on, but still a Kicker with zero NFL experience.

I like it. Even Crosby wasn’t immune to having a K brought in behind him. I think it’s good to have our backup strategy just in case

Maybe TT did it and I just don't remember, but I like that Gute seems to be constantly bringing in players for tryouts. Monday he brought in K Tanner Brown, as well as QB Chris Oladokun, cornerbacks Stanley Thomas-Oliver and Nick Whiteside, and wide receiver Kaden Davis.

Yesterday, he brought in 6 offensive linemen.

Packers just signed another TE to their 53, and he is a guy they had in for a pre-draft visit in 2022.

6'-7", 260 lbs & a nasty blocking demeanor. Would be fun to see which TE, Kraft or Fitz , has the more punishing block each week. ;) Looks like Musgrave will be spending a month on IR so Fitz may get a long look to stay.
Use him to block inside the 10 yard line.

I have a question. Is this standard practice for most teams?

A good question and something I have wondered about too. Like I said, I don't remember TT doing a lot of it during the season, but maybe he was and I just don't remember it.

I am guessing the answer is "yes. teams bring guys in for evaluation workouts". However, it would interesting if there was a sight to track those players and see how frequently teams do it, success rate, etc.

Seems the Bears worked players out in Sept.

My little bit of memory is unless it is a kicker situation teams usually use the bye week or those mini bye weeks to work guys out more than regular weeks. I also believe most teams have one of those tryouts for local guys once a season. Rarely does anyone actually get signed. If they do you can expect a movie about it.

Well, the 9ers lost a kicker and a game last Sunday. They sign an experienced kicker and he hits 3 FGs and 3 PATs in a 36-24 win.

...and got ROCKED making the tackle on a kick return. Wouldn't surprise me if he can't kick for them next week.
