Thornhill has elite athleticism to excel at open-field tackling in wide-open space.

It's not that he can't tackle in the box, it is that he is mostly back being a bad *** in center-field.

No Way JOSE. Josh Jones had elite athleticism and we saw how that worked out.

Not falling for another finesse player that lacks true football instincts and can't even tackle. If you can't tackle by college you never will. He is a TED THOMPSON DISASTER pick all the way

"TRAPPED IN THE MIND OF TED THOMPSON"

I've come to fine it's a real condition.

Josh Jones was never even considered to be a FS by Ted or anyone. Never was thought to have the athleticism to play CF. Josh may still turn out to be a good SS, but I think he will used more as a LB type when the D is in nickel and dime.

Rapp ran a 4.7 at his Pro Day.

He's not a FS. That should settle it.

This was very shocking. I knew he wouldnt time well but never would have guessed this. Watch the film. He doesn’t play like it. He’s so fast at diagnosing what’s happening that he gets to the play faster than a speed guy that doesn’t have his instincts and football IQ.
I never pegged him for a FS. I’ve been pretty consistent on calling him a combo safety that can play both. He gets deep and plays everything out front. I thought he could go round one so I’ll admit that this makes him drop but I’m not changing my stance. He’ll be a great player for whoever drafts him.

Brandon also thought Jon Abram could play FS for us...I'm not sure he understands the difference between the two positions.

Oh I agree he plays faster. He's a super solid SS, that can play a little dime LB imo. I don't see him being a good option to play deep, and never single high.

Very assignment sure, very steady, great, great kid it appears. He actually reminds me of Adrian Amos a bit, just not as straightline fast, and of course, that does matter.

You could probably play him and Amos together, but I think there are better options. Had we not signed Amos, I would be very on board with Rapp. I just don't see a place on the roster where he starts, and at his range in the draft, we can't take a backup.

I made my assessment based on what he exceled at and struggled with when I watched him play. So where PFF had him lining up doesn't change much for me. In a SS role I think he can do some things in coverage, but he doesn't allow you to be multiple because you don't ever want him single high and you probably don't even want him playing deep half all that often. He doesn't have the range for it.

What I'm after are two safeties who can both do anything so that Pettine can be as multiple and unpredictable as he wants to be. I think that perfect fit in this class is Gardner-Johnson but would be fine with Thornhill.

No Thornhill!! The guy has 0 skills at SS. He’s a converted corner and tackles like it. It’s amazing that nobody else sees this. He’s a FS that can also play corner. He can do anything you ask in coverage but will be aweful in run support.

Maybe not a free safety but same thing. Really good athletes that lack natiural football instincts.

Thompson did it with Rollins, Jones etc etc.

I really hope Gute doesn't do the same thing with guys like Thornhill chasing the single high safety pipe dream that only 3-4 guys in the entire league can even do.

If Thornhill doesn't hit that mark then there is nowhere for him to go and he becomes a LIABILiTY and BUST cause he is scared of contact. He isn't a for sure thing single high guy and if he was he would go top 12 easily. Not the second round.

I like him in coverage but there are better options. He had 13 INT’s but half over half of them were at corner. We don’t need a FS/corner. We need a FS/SS and a corner. Adderley is a better in coverage and isn’t a tackling liability.

If you read my posts I see it. He is a total wasted pick.

Like I said it would be a perfect TED THOMPSON PICK and one of his many FAILED EXPERIMENTS.

I know whoever claims Thornhill can't tackle at all will tell me they "watched tons of his film", but the truth of the matter is that anyone that says he can't tackle at all has never watched 4 complete games of his. And I'd put money on the fact they never watched even one complete game.

Please do carry on though...it's a fan forum. It should be about having fun and not all about reality.

Adderley is a better option than Thornhill, but you'd also have to take him earlier if you want him.

Thornhill didn't play a lot as a frosh and as a soph he split time between CB and safety, but mostly safety. Junior year safety and senior year all safety.

Not sure how that equates to "over half of his picks were at CB"(6 int as a SR. 4 int as JR.)But whatever floats ya boat.

My understanding is that Thornhill mostly played at cornerback prior to 2018.

Look, It’s obvious that he can tackle or he wouldn’t have had 98 tackles last season. I’m saying it’s painful to watch. He rarely Puts his pads on anyone. He does the drag down or does a dive at your feet. I may not have watched every Thornhill game but I’ve watched enough football to know when a player wants to hit. The NFL is littered with offensive guys that will hurdle or shake off a would be tackler that doesn’t try to square up and deliver a hit.

I’d be ok with this. I know certain people love Thornton and I love his athleticism and ability to play corner but he doesn’t fit our needs.

I said he split time between CB and safety in prior years, but it was clear he was a safety and that is why he was moved there full-time as a senior and had his best season in int(6) and every other measure.

To imply he played mostly CB prior to 2018 is incorrect. It's all good. You don't like him as much as some other guy you read about.

Oops the quote was left out. Oh well.:)

Post more articles you read and get all your info from on players.

???

Because if I am looking for a source regarding where he spent most of his time prior to this season, I must only read about players?

What exactly is your issue?

1) I really like him. I've been advocating for taking him, if you hadn't noticed.

2) Is it so offensive to try to find a source to help us understand how much he played at corner Vs. safety before 2018? I didn't even say you were wrong. I just did some digging and found one article that seemed to indicate he was primarily a CB before 2018. You seemed to think otherwise, so I thought it natural to ask where you found that information.

You're going to have to grow some thicker skin unless you want to spend 100% of your time around here squabbling.

Ha ha great sportsmanship boys. I’ll lay off Thornhill if everyone on this board agrees to love Rapp like I do.

I understand your logic and I’m not going to be to upset if Gute shares your sentiments as long as we fill the whole with the right guy.

I don't need sources. I am the source. I personally saw him split time between CB and safety in 2016.

I was saying that to imply he was a CB and then just switched to safety in 2018 just isn't accurate.

Adderley looks like a player as well and I don't talk about him much because I admittedly have seen very limited play of his. When my only real view of a guys game is YouTube videos then I don't like to talk about him much.

Thornhill I know more about and have seen alot of full games and will defend him. Same goes for Hock.

*This post I didn't sound ****ish but I had a typo and had to edit.*

Now everytime I edit people will think I was talkin' smack in original post:D

I don't know what "mess with your players" means, but I am hear to discuss players by and large.

Ok then.

Mr. Source-- how much time did he spend at corner and how much at safety before 2018? I'm cool with rounding to the nearest 10 if you don't remember exact snap counts.
