It has been strangely quiet in Green Bay in regards to Free Agent signings.

I kind of expected Gute to make some bargain basement signings after the draft, to backfill the roster with some older talent. Is Gute staying pat at CB, DL and OL?

Maybe waiting for some of the FA asking prices to come down?

There are still some talented FA's out there, especially at CB. This was the most updated list I could find. I also like that it includes FA's that were signed and how their contracts, for each position.

If Stokes is even close to what they’re claiming and for whatever reason they actually think Nixon is a capable slot starter I don’t see us doing a CB signing unless injury hits.

I'm thinking that if we have money and space to sign a free agent; it might make more sense to wait later down the season to see if there is a position that got hit hard with an injury or just a position that we could really make an improvement at. That could include a trade where we still would need the space to do it.

I can actually say for once that I really don’t see a position with any substantial room to sign someone. At least without a little bit of overlap or forced feeling. I’m glad to be able to say we’re relatively set. I’m excited to see THIS group.
As @gopkrs said, I’d wait. The prices drop over time in general and we can afford to be patient.

Same, and truthfully the spots I see the best possible Veteran presence is Edge or off ball LB that may be low snap count types.

Sure. I agree we always want to be looking and possibly putting FA feelers out there though.
Never know when an injury happens etc. Not wanting that scenario but just thinking ahead and have a couple FA players at each position on the back burner radar just in case.

I’m sorta surprised that Ryan Tannehill isn’t a backup somewhere. In 2019 he led his team to the AFC Championship game and led the League in Passer rating. Then in 2020 was Comeback player of the year and a Probowl nod. Then wins Division titles in 2021,2022. Starts rough in 2023 before an ankle sprain. Comes back to beat the Jaguars in their final game throwing 2 TD’s and eliminates them from the Postseason.

I suspect Tannehill has had some discussions but his agent would be smart to wait and see if a contender loses their starter.

That sounds about right. I suspect he’s still thinking he’s a Starter and doesn’t want be pinned to 1 team just yet

Nah knowing Tannehill he sure believes he can be a starter for a team in need, but he also knows his best bet is hang tight and wait. Ryan's quite a realistic guy in a world of unrealistic divas of the NFL.

So the seahawks cut Jamal Adams. He is only 28. Wonder if he is worth a look. PFF says meh with a 54.9. Maybe being cut because of new system in Seattle and not performance related.

I see now he has only played 10 games in last 2 years. Not sure we need that level of availability. Depends on the nature of the injuries.

Didn't realize that the Lions had picked him up until last night. How did he play? I see he was in for 8 snaps. I didn't hear his name much, other than he was suited up. What happened to the guy? He was such a promising player back in his first few years with the Jets and then Seahawks.

With the injuries to Williams and Bullard....maybe the Packers need to consider snagging him off the Lions PS if they demote him back to it?

I really think we are 1 known quantity veteran DB from taking another step forward. Might be why we’re holding J’aire. If he takes any setback whatsoever between now and playoffs we’re in some trouble. I’d almost want to see King get some snaps over Stokes. Either way you get burned but get him some playing time imo.

I also saw the Bills resigned Micah Hyde, but just to the PS. There are some veteran Safeties out there, especially if Bollards injury could shut him down for very long. Anderson played ok, making that one great stop on 4th down. However, never hurts to replace guys with proven veterans.

Agree.

Valentine hasn't done anything this season, after a promising rookie year. I thought we were strong in the DB department, but with injuries to JA, and now Williams and Bollard, we're bleeding.

Everyone knows Safety is a massive gaping hole in our lineup. Here's a list of scheduled UFAs at the position that I've noted or would like IF at the right contract...plus the top end guys I don't think we will go after but who knows:

Old but maybe?
Micah Hyde 33yrs old
- reunion if price is low at his age maybe?
Jayron Kearse 30 yrs old - we are familiar with him having spent the last few years in Dallas and Detroit/Minnesota his career before that. *I really like him as an aged vet signing hoping to rebound with a good team...he's played high level ball before and struggled this season IMO - could be a lowcost signing.

Under 30 still with either high level play at times or still possibly ahead of them
*Chauncey Gardner Johnson 26 yrs old
- He's coming off signing a one year prove it deal with DET for $6.5M...he has played some high level safety over the years since being drafted by Saints and traded to Eagles then. He's started 44 out of 58 possible games he was active...12 INTs 245 tackles...but barely played this year for DET because of injury. If he keeps having a solid playoffs though for Detroit now that he is back and producing there is a chance Detroit may try to keep him through extending. If they don't this 7.86 RAS safety that is still young could be a guy Gute and co likes enough to sign....perhaps even not just a one year deal.
Darnell Savage 26 years old...I think in a best world Savage offers or agrees to come back sub-$3M a year on a prove it year...that's new money, he has void hits coming too anyways...3 would be like paying him $8.5 but if we don't sign him he still hits us with 5.5M void money.
Chuck Clark 29 yrs old - was a solid safety for the Ravens and then last year traded as a cap issue to the Jets...and tears his ACL before this season starts. With the injury a lot is going to depend on medicals, but he's likely going to be looking for a one year deal again with someone to prove health and hopefully get one more decent payday in his career...who better for him than a team threatening to be quite decent in 2024?
Taylor Rapp 26yrs old - took a cheap one year $1.77M deal with Buffalo after being very solid in LA only to likely play his way into another year for another one year deal situation. If we are going to do some one off year contracts like we did last year (Owens, Ford and such) I'd embrace a Rapp signing in such a manner. He tackles very well so run support from the safety position is there.
*K'Von Wallace - He was a mid season cut by Arizona despite playing serious snaps claimed by Urban as "numbers game" and then acquired by TEN from Arizona in hopes to help their defense and he for sure did. Grading out on PFF in the seven games with TEN at an astounding 75.9 and overall this year (his first asked to be a starter really) at 68.1 (very solid PFF grade considering first year starting). A 9.44 elite level athlete he fits Gute's types and is one of the guys in this section I'd not be shocked to see a team roll the dice on offering him a 2/3 year reasonable contract...and I wouldn't be scared if it was us with the right contract structure. Perhaps Vrable would pick up a call from MLF his old buddy and give the skinny on this dude.
*Terrell Edmunds 27yrs old - I still think TEN got the steal of last season getting him for just $2M one year deal...he only started 4 games this year but saw over 400 snaps for them. Past first rounder who perhaps new scenery could do wonders. He's a very intriguing thought as he played a TON on his rookie deal seeing over 90% snaps three out of five years at PIT and the other two over 80%. The only reason he missed snaps in PIT were essentially missing games completely. A 9.86 RAS guy...I gotta think he is a Gute type guy.

IMO Starters WITHOUT a doubt...comes with having to pay...
Jordan Whitehead 27 yrs old
- Another past fourth rounder still young but has tremendous starting history. This is a guy you sign for long term like when we went and signed Amos to a 4/36M deal. He is to me one of the front runners if Gute doesn't want to just maybe have found the guy but truly sign your plan at safety. Whitehead is committed to with enough money to bring that he's your plan for three seasons minimum likely.
Kyle Duggar 27 yrs old - Looking for his first "big" pay day Duggar is a starting level safety and did well this year for the Patriots on an otherwise struggling team. Played 97.9% of all defensive snaps for NE and put forth a 106 sack season with 1.5 sacks and 2 picks and a FF. To me he may get the second most money in the safety free agents and likely costs more than Whitehead I think....but chance Xavier McKinney pulls that #2 figure and could leave Duggar hopefully struggling to find BIG money. He is the type of guy Gute may swing at similar to the Amos timing.
Xavier McKinney 24yrs old - He and Duggar are battling for IMO the #2 and #3 positions in price tags this offseason for safeties.
Kamren Curl 25yrs old (24 right now) - This seventh round pick has earned some GREEN...according to spotrac he is actually going to make more than McKinney or Duggar...but I am not quite there but fully admit he is really good and VERY young. One of the best young safeties no one knows.

Antoine Winfield Jr 25 yrs old...Would be a MEGA signing. Best free agent in the position this year and would likely garner $15M+ a year deal. Not the type of signing I predict Gute is going to make but noted him here.
Like the last one.

So we running with a 52 man roster last couple of weeks, why dont we find the best practice squad CB on one of the other 31 teams...and sign him. Maybe there holding a spot for Musgrave, but we could let go a prtaice squad guy of our own. Do it.

Just has to be a guy out there thats better than our bottom end DB room. Tyni, i say Musgrave before Lloyd...but maybe both, meaning someone would have to go.

Yep. It could be a bottom of PS guy and push one of our 53 onto PS.

I agree though. I still think we could try to get Kalen King some playing time. It doesn’t have to be FT but let him take some of the workload especially if we are beating on someone by several scores. Get him some playing time in case we need him later.

If what you are saying was possible, that of just grabbing guys off practice squads that are better than the lowest player on your 53, don't you think Gute would be doing that a few times a week?

While there just might be an unprotected CB on someone's PS that is better than Robert Rochell, I'm not sure signing said player to your 53, getting him up to speed with the defense, 14 weeks into a season, is the move I would make.

Us fans tend to think that there is always an easy fix out there, ie. "just sign anyone, they have to be better than what we have". I would wager to guess that there are 31 other teams out there looking for ways to try and improve their team after the trade deadline, but the pickings are kind of slim and probably pretty well picked over as well.

He technically isn't a safety, but one guy I would be curious to know more about is CB Patrick Peterson. Did he retire or is he staying in shape, waiting for his phone to ring? No doubt that the 34 year old Peterson isn't the Hall of Fame CB he once was, but if he has tread left on his tires, he might be worth bringing in for a look.

He last played for the Steelers in 2023 and even played some Safety for them. Maybe some fresh veteran legs is what the Packer secondary needs.
