ah yes. The already suspect state of offensive lines in many NFL cities is going to derail many teams this year. It got worse yesterday as two teams each had 2 starters go down to injuries yesterday. We may indeed end up seeing a pre trading deadline trade of one of our backup o-linemen.

I will admit the asking price for Yosh after the statements made by our staff on him the other day dropped....I was kinda shocked at it truthfully.

Van Ness was brilliant on that play with a very good wrap up tackle to end it. He looked like one of the Watt boys on that play.
Van Ness showed signs that he could be a good one. I liked how he handled Fields when he thought he could burn him outside. He covered him by going flat across the LOS, cutting the options for Fields, and when he committed, he turned on the jets, and took him down. That was a savvy play.

Great segment on ESPN this morning by Dan Orlovsky. Broke down how Love was able to get defenders to commit by looking them off. Said he was effectively doing just what Rogers has always done

He really did. The guy is in incredible shape, maybe 5% body fat and fast. If he's smart as well, as he was yesterday, he could be an early impact player surprise.

Side note - it looked like Gary was back in form on the snaps I saw. He just knows how to get to the QB. Van Ness and Gary will be the new Smith Bros. And they have a rookie deal with LVN for 3 or 4 years.

I thought Love did a good job against the Bears. Great? Maybe not, but he did more than enough to win, and that's priority 1.

I thought the team built on their mistakes as the game moved along, and they were starting to play with some confidence, going into the 2nd half. It was a good win, need to move on to Atlanta next week.

As for the Bears, how good of an opponent they were I can't say. They might be horrible, and if that's the case, the high we're getting from beating them should be a little less intense. They sure looked like a team heading for a dismal season.
I expected more from the Bears. Their defense was lost much of the time. Except for a few beats when we pitched left they were no match. The Lions and Vikings will destroy them. The Packers are a work in progress. Very impressed with the young players. And they will get better.

That Van Ness sack saved probably 4 points and momentum. That is why we drafted him. Last year Fields definitely gets to the edge.

Route running was a big issue in the game. There's a lot of work needed for receivers to be where they're supposed to be when a pass arrives.
Agreed. Love overthrew Toure and Musgrave, but they could improve their route running as well.

And a long ball doesn't have to be placed in a receiver's hands. Love has to believe that "my guy can beat your guy" on long passes. Jalen Hurts and is receivers are very good at this. It will come as these guys get more playing time together.

I was impressed with Reed's route running. If that keeps up, he'll be a huge upgrade to Cobb. Very impressive first game. And he cramped at the end, nothing serious. With the heat, I'm surprised more guys weren't cramping.

That is one advantage to playing in Lambeau. You look forward to no heat.

Love did have a few arrant throws but the one to Musgrave was on the rookie. Love put the ball right where Musgrave was supposed to be. Musgrave didnt adjust his route to the coverage as he should of.
The way I saw it was Musgrave was just standing there completely open. He had to back up to get it and kind of tripped over his shoes. Love had a broken play and just threw it up there when he saw Musgrave so open. And so Musgrave was just where he was. There was not anything close to a timing play imho.

Methinks you're right. It was a broken play due to the ball being on the ground twice, with Love. The defense broke down, thinking it was a fumble. It was just fortunate that Love was able to pick the ball up and get it out to Musgrave. He was standing there, trying to stay in an open spot, just in case the ball happened to be picked up and thrown in his direction. Worked out pretty good, for the Packers.

But, that's just my opinion.

I only watched Myers on a couple plays and both of them were passes. The bears had absolutely nobody coming up the middle right away and so Myers did we he needed to do. Just stay in the middle and make sure nobody made their way there. On one play, there was a delayed stunt and Myers was able to pick the guy up who otherwise would have had a straight shot at Love. l do hope he will recognize when to move over and help someone out but on those plays they were too far to the sides. I did not see him on run blocking but Jones did have several nice 8 or 9 yard runs up the middle. The center needs to decide which way to go to help on some plays or just go and get a linebacker. To make a long story short, I wish I had replay and could watch him.

It was a broken play all the way, right off the snap Jordan took a dribble before he threw the pass. Still think it shouldve been a dunk on the other end by musgrave tho

But thats not the play i was referring to. The one I was talking about was the play where musgrave was along the sideline and the ball sailed over his head because he kind of stopped on his route just for a moment

I was really pleased with what I saw out of Love. Perhaps it’s already been mentioned and I missed it but does anyone know how many drops were counted by our pass catchers? I’m sure many will look funny at Love’s completion percentage but I felt like there was probably 3-4 catchable balls that were dropped and a couple more that were decent throws but bad routes.

I guess maybe a simpler way of putting it is like… out of 12 incompletions, how many were actually due to bad throws, poor decisions by the QB, etc?

What was important is that Love got it up there and he caught it. And of course, the Bears were completely lost on the play.

I don’t know but I remember like 2-3 that could’ve been caught. However that happens to all QB’s. I think it’s safe to say Jordan could’ve taken that 55% to 60-65% and that’s where he’ll eventually need to be. These first couple games are like a scrimmage as that Offense passing game is so new. Like least experienced in the league new. It’ll take several games to start ironing out the wrinkles.

We’ve got some speed though
Doubs
Reed
Musgrave
Watson
Toure

They’re all pretty fast players at their positions. Speed kills

To put it in simple terms, Love did a solid job for a guy who just got the starting QB job. The defense found itself as the game moved along. They had a rough time stopping Fields from scampering around the field, but hey! Who doesn't have that problem? He makes mistakes, and he turns the ball over. What more can we ask for? Van Ness made me smile. He's got some chops. His play.... stringing Fields out to the sideline to stop him from turning the corner was magnificent. Pure text book. Run out flat to keep him from turning up field, and when he does, hit the afterburners, and nail him hard! Text book!

Nobody could tackle for two quarters. Someone put a bee under their saddles at half time. They turned into hitting machines. Made some nice hits out there for last two quarters.

We got a guy who can punt the football! High and deep, and not returnable. He booted one 68 yards! There was no wind at his back! He just plain smacked the bejeebers out of it! I hope they checked it for a flat spot afterwards.

Some bad time management on the sidelines at times. But, with the new signal caller, acceptable. It'll iron itself out. For those that said Rodgers took too long on the clock before snapping the ball, Love was doing the same thing. Their concept is to use motion, to identify defensive sets. Then there's changing the play. It takes time, and the ball gets snapped just before the time clock runs out. Live with it. It's what you do when your plays are complex enough that there are several variations based on the defense.

The question we need to ask is how good the Bears are. I think they're a candidate that will be fighting it out to escape the lowest 10 records for the season. A six, maybe 7 win team, at best. Why? They just don't seem to understand that a QB with happy feet that can actually win games are few and far between. Even Philly will find that out with Hurts. He's getting hit enough he's slowing down. They fail to see too many opportunities downfield.

I'm going to give our defense a B- rating. Not bad. On offense, I'm going to go with a B. It would be higher, except the running game just isn't what it should be yet. When it gets there, that will go up. Love himself, I'd say a B+. He looked much better than his detractors thought he'd be. He's got some chops.

Well just thinking back...Aaron Jones dropped 1, Jayden Reed dropped 1 maybe 2

All young guys too and you can add Tucker Kraft and Ben Sims to that group as well. Both are 4.5/4.6 guys at Te

Didn't LVN get burned a play or two before by getting sucked in as the RB ran around him for a decent gain?
