Two weeks in and Jordan Love has a QB rating of 118.8, which is the highest in the NFL. No need to point out the flaws in this or any rating system, I get it. His first Int will probably bring this down. But it gives a general idea anyhow that he is doing better than most predicted, even me. And I tend to be unrealistically optimistic.

Keep in mind, Love is still getting his feet under himself, working without his arguably best WR, Watson.

He is doing it primarily with 2 first year players (Doubs and Toure) and 3 rookies (Reed, Wicks, and Musgrave). None of which were selected in the first round. Even with Rodgers taking his 2 favorite targets in Lazard and Cobb with him to NY, Love has performed well.

Fortunately, Love seems to have gotten ball security from Rodgers. I still expect some hiccups to come this first year, but the early results have to be very encouraging and having bears fans waking up crying.

He's doing a good job. He made a major flub against the Falcons, with that QB sneak where he charged offside, but that's not enough to say he's been doing a bad job. He owned up to the mistake afterwards, to his credit.

Now it's up to the coaching staff to insure they have guys prepped on the offensive line, and come up with enough firepower to help him. Also, the defense needs to get to work.

Two games in, Jordan Love leads the NFL with a 118.8 passer rating. Tied for first with six TDs. And 21st in yardage. Oh well, you can't have everything. Pretty impressive though.
Being 21st in yardage only means we have good starting field position and a good ground game.

It’s still very early into the season so we should proceed with caution. We’ve played 1 weaker team and 1 mediocre team, but both away games
We’re 1-1 and ultimately we should be 2-0. Growing pains include lack of discipline, lack of timing, lack of continuity etc. We saw how even 1 botched play can affect the outcome. By 2nd to 3rd Quarter of this season we should start to see the Offense come together and gel better.

I still think we can win 7-9 games area based on these first 2 weeks. That would be pretty respectable for our first season with a newer QB and newer Offense. Anything added is a bonus.

Sigh, I have no hopes for us. I see nothing in Love that gives me hope for this season.

Not his fault, but he just isn't a #1 pick and we are just compounding the mistake here (probably to satisfy someone's ego) by betting a season on him.

An year wasted till it becomes obvious.

Not a year removed but two games in...still early but how you feeling about him X?

Can he win a game?

Now the question is can he win a second? Truth is he personally didn't cause us to lose that game.

Rodgers was 11th last year in yards....didn't even get us to the playoffs. Love keep doing what he is doing, clean up a little there and here and he is going to possibly do something more than Rodgers did last year.

Odd missing a few weeks of this forum. I'm rested from a nice long vacation, but don't have the energy to catch up on all that I missed.

Great win against the Bears! Should have beaten the Falcons, the defense handed them that game. How much has the Dillon 3rd down run in the 4th Q been talked about? Just like they seemed to be doing all day, I felt that the refs gave him a terrible spot and the ball was over the first down line. MLF didn't challenge though, not sure why.

Observations after 2 weeks:

Anders: Legit kicker with a big leg. All those wringing their hands over him in preseason and practices, are hopefully done worrying. Yeah, he will still miss a FG or XP, but what kicker doesn't?

Love: Still too early to declare him as a SOLID QB, but liking what I see. Once again, I hope all those that hated the pick, are now starting to see a bit of the light at the end of the tunnel they dug themselves deep into.

Young WR's and TE's: I didn't expect Watson to miss the first 2 games, but it is what it is. The rest of the young receivers are showing signs of what the Packers and Love need.

OL: Bahk proved me right again. Should have gotten out from under this guy years ago. Sure, he is a solid LT, when he plays. However, he takes up a huge chunk of the cap and will probably be in street clothes more often than a uniform. Othewise, I would say up until the 4th Q on Sunday, I liked what I saw out of the OL. Loosing Jenkins did not help and we can only hope it is short term. Can the NFL ban artificial turf?

Rodgers Injury: Would never wish that on a player, especially one that held the keys to the Packers getting a 1st round pick. I think he comes back from it and plays next year. I doubt he has the same injury, had he stayed in GB, but shows you just how quickly an older, less mobile QB can go down with a season ending injury.

Defense: They looked like they had finally turned a corner against the Bears. The front 7 played really well, as did the secondary. I was less impressed against the Falcons. Alexander looked like a rookie CB and once again, afraid to make tackles. Gary on 3rd downs is coming in for one thing, a hard rush and a hopeful sack, the Falcons exploited him. I know that Barry doesn't make tackles or defend passes, but he sure the heck doesn't know how to put his players in a position to win. That 4th Q. was just sickening. How many times do we have to witness the defense give up a big lead, because Barry has them playing soft? Yeah, the offense didn't help in the 4th Q., but the Falcons defense smelled blood and was a big reason why the offense whiffed in the 4th Q.

Coaching: MLF and company have to do a better job at clock management and getting the plays in. Too many times Jordan was breaking the huddle with under 10 on the play clock. WTF didn't MLF call a timeout during that FG attempt that the delay of game turned into a punt? Barry....I can "Barrly" talk about that guy without getting upset. Doing so little, with so much talent.

Quay Walker: Had to mention Quay. This guy looks better every time he is out there. He hustles, he tackles and he can cover receivers. My pick so far as the Packer MVP, after 2 games.

And even then if Dillon executes we get the first down on the previous play. And MLF should not put his young QB on the road in that question mark sneak situation. Call the timeout after 3rd down. Bring him to the sideline and give him a play or punt the ball. Does anyone resemble Graham Harrell? In 2012 Rodgers got his eye poked and had to leave the game to get some treatment against the Saints. We are inside the 10 yard line and he botches the handoff for a turnover. Coaches have to coach sometimes.

Shouldn't have come down to the 4th down botched sneak. Bad coaching for the umpteenth time on that drive. Why was the 3rd and 1 run behind Royce Newman and a backup OT? Dillon has looked slow and lumbering since the start of training camp. While he should be able the grind out a yard, I'd put more trust in Love, Taylor or Wilson at this point. Putting the ball in Love's hands with a bootleg option to run or throw on third or 4th down seemed like a sensible call imo.

The most important thing thus far in 2023 is the ability of Jordan Love to manage the Offense. Is he a Peyton Manning Field General? No. Has he proven a fundamental ability to manage his Offense in his first consecutive starts? Absolutely.

Love is arguably a slightly above average QB. Meaning if you put him in an established team such as KC, Dallas, Ravens or 49ers? He’s going to win you a bunch of games.
However the Packers Offense is Piecemeal. We’re disjointed much due to lack of overall experience and its going to be an uphill battle until we get the pieces in place. We were swimming against the tide already until Jones and Watson injured. We’ve got good potential, but potential doesn’t always win games today.

For the love of humanity we need to get out of Bakhtiari the very instant it’s feasible. We are spinning our wheels at LT now for 3 seasons. We need to go another direction the second we are eliminated from postseason. I’d seriously consider moving Jenkins to LT when he’s healthy and having a battle for LG. Newman is only a temp worker

Jenkins did not look good at LT last season. Tom at left and put Nijman / Walker at RT. Jenkins is best where he is at. Should have sent Bakh to the Jets 2 months ago and solidified the Rodgers 1st and picked up another day 2 pick. Would not have hurt the cap. Open competition at LT in the preseason. Too late now.

Yes. As good as he is what good is he if he cannot be there.

And weve had 2 or 3 long pass interference penalties that prevented receptions as well

Tom showed last year he can play left tackle. But why move him? We have a solid right tackle for years to come right now. Did Walker look so bad at left tackle? He sure does look the part. I mean he looks like a left tackle to me. Yeah, agree Jenkins stays where he is. He showed he couldn't play tackle. I'm hoping for Walker at left. Hope we don't need Nijman.

Adding a little more information, Love's 7.6 YPA is good for ninth in the league. top ten, not bad. That was a stat that Rodgers excelled at, IIRC.
A lot has to be Run After the Catch. Recall what Aaron Jones did in Week One.

What is the Packers points per possession number and where does that stack up with the rest of the league?

Few scoring stats:

We are first in the league through two weeks in Touchdowns scored with 8.
Offensive Touchdowns our 7 is tied with Dolphins and Cowboys for the most.
Our 6 passing TDs is tied with Vikings for the lead.
Total Points for at 62 is the second most for the league (Cowboys at 70)
Our 45 points against ranks us at 14th in the league.

I've not located points per possession however BUT I got points per play:

We have scored 62 points and ran 156 plays - that represents .579 points per play which leads the entire NFL. Top 5 teams in this stat are:

GB - .579
DAL - .507
49ers - .500
MIA - .476
SEA - .442

The league average through two is .357

Yards per play Top 5:

MIA - 7.34
49ers & Vikings - 6.30
DET - 5.87
KAN - 5.67

League average - 5.1
GB is above average at 5.17

That holds true for every QB in the league.

While true, Love got a slight absurd amount after the catch yards. Which leads me to my indecision, because we have so few games in the books right now.

Week 1, Love is 9.1 YPA, which of course is absurd and should be impossible to maintain over a season. SF lead the league last year at 8.0

In week 2, 6.0, which is worse than our 2022 at 6.9, good for 19th. 6.0 was achieved in 2022 by Arizona, good for last in the league.

Now we wait for more data to figure out which extreme is closer to the real Jordan Love.

Haven't seen any 60-90 yard TD plays. Receivers getting open and QB hitting them in stride. Something we didn't see as much of last year.

Of course. Fran Tarkenton once led the league in passes completed.....Behind the line of scrimmage. But without the good catch and run back you will be forced to take shots down the field.

And after only 2 weeks consider the opponents. If we drew Buffalo and Dallas like the Jets did what are our numbers? And what is our record?
