Didn't LVN get burned a play or two before by getting sucked in as the RB ran around him for a decent gain?
Did not see that. But that is something he can learn. Speed is something you cannot teach. And tracking down and tackling Fields is a play many a LB cannot make. He may be the only one on our roster who could have made that play. Probably saved 4 points.

Yes. He did get burned at least once, that I can remember. He has to maintain that outside leverage like he did against Fields. I think it showed what he can do, and has to do it consistently, and if he does, he could be one of the better edge men in the league.

I hope his mistakes made a lasting impression on him, so they don't happen again.

What I saw, on that one play, is the ability to do the job about as good as it can be done. Now, it's up to him to execute at that level consistently.

Otherwise, pretty good. Even the great Ray Nitschke missed a few in his NFL debut.

Ray was scared of getting the ugly look from Willie Wood for missing an assignment or tackle.

Let me begin by saying that I’m pretty excited and pleased after that first game. Sometimes in my critique some take it as a slight when it’s not meant that way at all. Every team is increasing or decreasing in productivity or efficiency against the league. Rarely does a franchise remain stagnant with few exceptions. I can’t judge a teams velocity either direction on just 1 game. I can state basic observations or my opinion compared to what I see around the league in real-time.

That said. Love did start a little slow across the first portion of the game. Like many QB’s he needed time to find some rhythm and he found it in the 3rd Qtr and then his play escalated. However I’m going to temper expectations as the Bears were the LAST ranked scoring Defense last season. Also I’m keeping in mind how we scored as Defense scored 7, so we really put up 31 points. I also factor field position and how did we perform based on what we were given
if an average game is C grade field position? We were B grade. Mathematically I deduct
3-4 points which attributed to favorable (not excessively) Field position. I’ll factor in that we are relatively green and missing our most experienced WR. So I’ll add back in 2-3 points there.
In effect. We scored like 29-30 points against at best a below average Defense. That’s not bad, it’s just not something I’d personally use as a metric to insinuate anything but a good, solid but leaning slightly above average performance.

I’ll give this a B- on Offense considering C is an average grade. This isn’t a draft “feel good” grade where everyone gets a B+ average, so that’s not a bad grade, it’s an above average score. Against a better Defense? that was more like a 21-24 point type performance which isn’t Terrible and it isn’t Great.

What I did like is with each snap our guys get experience and with that comes confidence. I read that with Luke I could just tell he got that taste of the Paint even though he never finished. He knows he messed up and he knows that ultimately his personal goal is that goal line. Once Luke has timing he’s going to be a load for someone to cover. He has a Jimmy Graham potential ceiling once acclimated.

Now I’ve heard that opponents will get game film and suddenly we will hit a wall. While that’s partly true it doesn't factor the offset. That offset is WE get film too. We review and adjust and the idea is to clean up our weaknesses, not replicate them for other teams to abuse us. Each player is a moving target and either getting better or getting worse. However with largely inexperienced players? I’d argue their arrow is mostly pointing up because they have lots of areas of growth.

This year, every game will be a new journey. We can't say how this team will hold up against a good pass rush, or top defensive backs. On the other side of the ball, Fields didn't test our secondary. He wasn't capable of doing it. At the same time, he stung us with his wheels. Lots of things were learned about where the Packers stand at this point, and it raised a lot of questions as they move forward.

This is where I'm at, more or less. There was plenty of good, but I can't tell if they were legitimately good or we picked on the Bears. I have reservations (not quite concerns) about Love's accuracy. There were both incompletions and completions that looked harder than they needed to be.

Similar reservations that most of the offense was through Jones. If he misses time, and it seems very likely he will already in week 2, can the other guys step up and move the ball? Watson's return should fix that problem, but his status is also up in the air.

Love will win 2+ Super Bowls I think

How many All Pros? MVPs? Pro Bowls? 35+ touchdown pass seasons? Etc?

Don't know, don't really care

It amazes me how similar Favre and Rodgers careers were but they were VERY different players and "people" - pretty much the exact opposite

If he were to win any it would be glorious.

For Green Bay? Only if he has a competent defense and a non-sucking ST at the same time.
Yes. I also always like to factor Defensive points scored into the big picture. I know everyone looks at points scored and credits the Offense. However if the D scores 7 or created a turnover that leaves is inside FG range I count that Defense.
We scored 7 points on D Sunday and that puts the Bears Offense putting up a net 13 points. Similarly our Offense scored 31

We all but eliminated Fields effectiveness. Notice we moved a Safety up and even sent JA in on a blitz. We were overall aggressive and it worked. We allowed a few Fields scrambles but notice we kept him in the middle of the field without any big chunk plays. I recall 1 play where we literally had 10 in the box with 1 High Safety

Also ST can greatly benefit the Offense if they cross Midfield etc, which they did.

Yes, ST produced a good punt return and a 52 yard FG at half. And our kick and punt coverage was decent.

Two games in, Jordan Love leads the NFL with a 118.8 passer rating. Tied for first with six TDs. And 21st in yardage. Oh well, you can't have everything. Pretty impressive though.

Yeah I've been really impressed... he's had 1-2 bad reads but also quite a few drops too - so it could be higher

He's been really good - and this is without Watson who is *supposed* to be our Top WR

If Watson isn't back soon, just trade him for JT - he's made of glass

Yeah, it's a great start. Anyone not excited about his future - I don't know what to say about them.

If he’s at this level in year 1 as a Starter? I fully expect him to crack the top 10 group in passing yards in a few years.
On the other side, I’m a little concerned with our Run Defense. We really got exposed on several drives and it’s glaringly apparent we didn’t learn our lesson. This time cost us a game, next time will cost us a Playoff exit

I would settle for a 99 passer rating if we could have a top 5 rushing offense.
I think missing our All Pro LT and Probowl Caliber RB1 was really significant. Even with all those mistakes we made, there’s a really good chance we Win that game. I don’t like to make excuses, but those are 2 really good starters missing. Look what happened to KC without Kelce. That guy is a big part of their Offensive success.
Even though Kelce had a pedestrian performance in his first game back, look at who Mahomes targeted the most often.
No other KC player had more targets this week than Travis (9). That speaks to who Pat trusts the most and to who they want to get ramped up. Take a tip from a guy who understands D pressure and what typically works.

That said. We need to gradually lean on Musgrave more. He’s not only athletic but he’s a guy that can win the contested battle. He’s taller, weighs more and is faster than many LB’s. I want to see us push Luke a little more. You can see talent just oozing when the ball goes his way. Let him battle a little more. We had 9 targets across 8 quarters of play that went to any TE. That’s not enough imo. What are we TE shy?? If Kraft isn’t the answer then fine. Feed Deguara and Musgrave a few more or maybe run more 12 Personnel.

I especially like getting past 6 yards where we draw a Defensive contact. We saw how those flags helped us this week. What did we have 100 yards in progress off Defensive interference?

Someone criticized Kenny Clark. But Sunday it was Wyatt, Wooden, and Colby that did not get it done.

Yes. Early on they did get pocket pressure. In the first half Ridder was all kind of eratic. Kenny was up in his face several times as he threw. We need to capitalize on those errant throws. They’ll be fewer and farther between with many QB’s. We’ve got to be better prepared to catch a ball on Defense. We had at least 2 passes that were on our numbers and it’s unacceptable we can’t drop all those. Id have those LB and DB’s doing INT drills this week.
