Aaron Rodgers primary motivation in 2020 was to not get replaced and anyone saying otherwise is deceiving themselves.
It wasn't just that, he wanted to prove to everyone that Gute screwed up by drafting his future replacement too early. Additional gas was thrown on the fire because Rodgers wasn't told/consulted with in advance of the Love pick.

The thing is, Rodgers did exactly what an elite athlete does, he did go out there and prove that he still had it. His mistake was not stopping there, he decided to become the squeaky wheel of the franchise.

Only if Love can play. If not, Gute should be fired.
I don't agree with that. One missed pick should not define the GM. If that was the case, GM's would be getting fired left and right. Now if there is a running list of mistakes that Gute made and it is a relatively long list, then this might trigger him being fired. I for one, don't think that list is very long at all.

Amen. That concept isn’t some new formula. Some will have you believe that Aaron Rodgers is special and different from our Species. Yet Humans have been built to be competitive at all turns from Adam on. If someone doesn’t believe that?, we can’t even pass a car without them speeding up to cut us off! Have you experience this? Of course you have you and I do it all the time.

Nobody wants to lose and especially in their job. These NFL athletes are the ultimate form of competitors and that’s why they are so threatened by competition. Ask Zach Wilson or Brett Favre.

Aaron Rodgers primary motivation in 2020 was to not get replaced and anyone saying otherwise is deceiving themselves.

I always love listening to fans telling the world that they absolutely know what motivates people who are the best in the world at their jobs and obviously had motivation prior to whatever it is I'm now being told is the motivating factor. It couldn't possibly be that MM's offense was awful and, as always happens to QBs when a new offensive system is put in place, it takes a year for the QB to learn the new system. Nope. Aaron Rodgers, one of the best QBs ever prior to Love being drafted, needed to be pushed by a raw rookie. So, if your theory is true, why doesn't Gute draft a QB EVERY year so that we can constantly "motivate" the current QB? By your reasoning, Packers should have drafted a QB in round 1 this season to push Love harder in camp because, without that push from a first round rookie, Love will be too relaxed, right?

Absolutely think Gute should lose his job if the guy he risked his career on doesn't work out. Love didn't help the Packers the past two season (when they had a shot at the Super Bowl) so unless Love looks like a guy that can lead a team to a Super Bowl, Gute basically gave away the 2020 draft.

Says it all right there. You are not looking at ALL of Gute's work and pinning his career on one single draft pick out of 61.

You have yourself WAY too vested in this Love thing.

No. Not every QB needs that motivation.

Look, I am sure you think I hate Rodgers, I don't. I said it many times, he is the greatest QB in franchise history. I am a big fan of Rodgers the player. And many people who are fans of the player automatically become fans of the person. Why? They are 2 different matters entirely. Tribalism would be my answer. Belief in your hero such that you will support him despite any evidence to the contrary.

I believe Rodgers is not a very nice person. His estranged relationship with his father, mother, and brother; his snears at Packer coaches; his throwing teammates under the bus; his arrogance in interviews; the way he treated McCarthy (who was a poor coach but a fantastic person); the way he treats his teammates on the field; and deceptive interviews throwing Gute under the bus. I mean saying Packers didnt tell him about the trade, when Gute says AR wouldn't reply to texts or return calls. Think about that. He's trying to turn fans against Gute with a deception. Why do I believe Gute? Because AR didn't deny it - and he knows if he did Gute could easily prove with phone records. Following it up with his house is so big he misses calls and texts was just embarrassingly silly.

. . . All of this points to a poor leadership and deficiencies in character. I don't hate him, but I can recognize who he is.

You can still be a fan of the player, but still recognize his human flaws.

As far as Rodgers the player, he has regressed significantly. His accuracy has gone down and his long ball is significantly shorter. Long gone are the perfectly timed pinpoint passes hitting a WR in stride. Recent MVPs be dammed. He made up partly for his decline with smarts, a truly amazing WR in Devante Adams, and he played within the MLF system. He grew increasingly antagonistic with LaFluer for some reason. He simply no longer makes players around him better.

Absolutely. Which that is an extension of the Jordan selection. Had Jordan come in and played lights out, it makes Gutey look brilliant. I believe Rodgers is threatened by Gutenkunst to some extent.

I often wonder if Rodgers looked around at his current Offense before this season and has come to terms that it is not high enough caliber to make a SB push. Even a non injured thumb likely gets us 1 or 2 wins at best. This Offense wasn’t built for a deep playoff Run and Aaron is not going to wait around a couple seasons to see what happens, I think he’s got 2-3 years at best case before hanging it up.

That is typical of pundits. I am sure they said the same thing about Brady. And that is fine. I will always gladly take an aging, slipping QB who can take me to the NFC Championship game. Or even an aging, slipping Brady who threw 3 picks and still beat us. And then 2 weeks later he has another SB ring on his finger. Yep, slipping all right. There is always JUST FOR MEN.

Doesn't mean they don't have a point. As I stated, one part possible slippage, one part personality/relationships and one part unknown NFL future in April 2020.

I'm surprised more teams don't use better draft capital on backup QBs. It's an insurance policy to the most important position on the field. Peoples ******* get all twisted up if the GM uses the wrong level of draft capital as insurance against losing your QB when it is pretty darn important. Nowadays, with the style of QB play that is out there, probably going to be more important. I'm not sure some of these QBs play will fall off a cliff pretty quickly in their careers and/or have periods when they are injured.

For the record, on draft night, I thought it was a mistake however, after thinking about it, I could see the logic. Disagreed with it, but could see why. The further removed we get from draft day and all that has been going on in the public eye between Rodgers and management, there was probably alot going on behind the scenes prior to 2020 for the Packers to make the pick beyond what was going on on the field.

I’ve always subscribed to this. The QB is the Queen of the Chessboard. Meaning the spending of draft Capital in that Day3 area is frivolous compared to the potential value of your backup QB.
Also I’ll just mention that The Packers did pick up a 5th and 6th Rounder in two mini trade backs in Round2. Brian probably saw that 5th Rounder as a bonus selection that he didn’t even have 24 hours earlier.

Ok. Still, Gute should have given Rodgers more weapons. We may have won another SB, if he did so. Having one of the best QB's of all time and only winning one SB is clearly on the GM's involved.

If that was the case, GM's would be getting fired left and right.
Aren't they?

The Packers had their share of problems in the Rodgers era. Aaron Rodgers WAS NOT one of them.

TT gave Rodgers a lot of weapons early on, still only made it to one Superbowl. While I agree with what you are saying about lack of weapons, but Gute was also attempting to address fixing a defense. Winning Superbowls isn't as easy as some make it sound. Lots of things have to fall into place. Injuries, development, plus in the turnover column and throw in some luck.

Rodgers and the Packers made a lot of good runs at winning it all, but came up short several times. If there's anything to "blame" Rodgers for, it was being able to do more with less. TT and Gute were both spoiled by that and to their detriment, both opted to address more glaring (to them) needs.

I hope Jordan Love is amazing. Some fans believe the front office is a bunch of idiots and any logical analysis of said front office is tantamount to worshipping Cthulhu and hoping for 1,000 years of darkness to rain upon the land.

Definitely not the case here, given the criticism of the Love pick and the fact that they refuse to believe anything the front office says that is at odds with what Rodgers says.

My comments were in response to his comment that the reason why he quotes a ton of other people's posts in a single post is because we're all posting during the day while he's sleeping and he has a ton of posts to respond to when he wakes up. But he's in Europe, which is not that far ahead of the US, it's not like he's in Asia. If he really does login only once a day, then fine.

I agree with you that he may post, or not post, whenever he wants. But his comment was in response to someone else annoyed with his posting style, and I have seen others mention their annoyance as well. If he does login at different times during the day, then perhaps he could respond at those other times so his posts are shorter and less annoying? Just a thought. But he's free to post however and whenever he chooses.
I think you`ll find European time difference can between six and eight hours.

Not everyone. ;)

It is true though, some want you to believe that the Packers would have won Super Bowls with another pick and that the Love pick alone was responsible for Rodgers prickly feelings towards the Packers. Then they want to say that those prickly feelings didn't motivate Rodgers or influence his back to back MVP's. Oh and had Love not been picked, Rodgers would still be a Packer. By using hind site and blinders, anything is possible to believe.

Rodgers was and still is a great QB, but his arrogance was there well before the 2020 draft. Much like his real life family and the 2005 draft, you do something he doesn't like, he's going to carry that chip on his shoulder for a long time. We saw something similar with Favre, as well as other successful athletes and superstars in their particular occupations. With fame and fortune, can come the feeling of "I am better than everyone else, F them if they don't like what I say or do." The problem is, those people were the ones that helped make that person who they are today. So yes, many of their once fans are going to look at them in a whole new light and it won't the same light that the saw them in, before success got to their head.
There are also a few people who hated the pick when it happened. No hindsight there. I am on record stating that I hated all 3 of their top picks in 2020. Short of Love being one of the main reasons of GB winning a SB that will never change.
