I actually saw that even back in the 9er playoff game from last year. He delivered quite a hit in the Steeler game of 2021 that took him out. But since he came back it is as if he is gun shy. I could never imagine the great Herb Adderley or Willie Wood ever ducking for cover. They hit people relentlessly their whole career.
Agreed and "Gun shy" is really the term that I have been trying to think of, thank you!

I have watched him when at games and once in awhile on TV when they actually have him in the picture (he often is far away from the action). I can't imagine that the coaches haven't picked up on it and said something to try and get him more involved. Hardly a play goes by when I don't see CB's from the Packers or other teams, up in the mass piles of people trying to make the tackle, but rarely do I see Alexander in those "scrums".

I’ll also add that Captain is using “Total FGM. I showed conclusive evidence inside 50 that Mason is superior in making FG. He’s using a stat that’s skewed because Mason has had very few attempts past 50 this season. Even if he hit 1 Kick from 51 yards etc..? it wouldn’t move the average needle but a yard. Had Mason hit just ONE 50+ he’d be 88% kicking and leading the league!!
I think the philosophy of the team even in MM years has been hesitant to attempt very long FGs unless the scenario in a particular game dictates it. Crosby hit a 56 yarder at halftime in Philly back in 2010. But if he missed there was no time on the clock. I believe he hit one that far in the Metrodome years back. But we were well ahead and the Vikings were an inferior team except for AP. Crosby had that horrible stretch one year that was scary. Distance was not the issue. He had that horrific game in Detroit years back. And just when he was on a roll it fell apart in Cincy last year. I was never too sold on Crosby until he did what he did in Dallas. Those were 2 pressure kicks from a long ways. And he delivered.

100% Agree he avoids them everytime I've seen him. That's why I think we gave him $84 million and now he slinks away any chance he has of getting hurt or injured. He's making that kind of money to make him a DB to be feared, but I don't see anyone afraid.

He has missed 3 FG's all year. A 47 yard attempt was blocked by the Jets when the ball was snapped high and Quinnon Williams blew by blockers. I hardly blame Crosby for that blocked kick.

The other 2 misses were from 55 (Bills) and 54 (Cowboys).

Amen. That’s the other thing. If you take away a Postseason blocked FG? Which I don’t put on distance (our argument) In the playoffs he’s very accurate.
As you said when When the game is in the line he’s “Cool Hand Luke”
Even with the block in postseason Crosby is 88.6%!! 31/35 70/70 XPM 100%.
Last time I checked you can’t get better than 100

exactly. In 2022 He’s 87% FG after missing 55,54,47.
He’s also 89% in the postseason!
He’s 70/70 XPM 100% postseason

I understand we want perfection, but let’s not get ridiculous.

In a game where Jaire Alexander is paid $21M/year to do what he does, I have no problem paying a seasoned vet with ice in his veins a million or 2 more than Joe Blows It.

The blocked kicks in the 9er game, the Chiefs game, and even the offside one against the Steelers were the fault of the offensive line completely last season. This year against the Jets the holder was slow to get the ball down and it messed his timing up and the kick went low. Put it this way. In 1964 Lombardi would have been thrilled to have a kicker like Crosby. If he had we would not be talking 3 straight championships. We'd be talking 4. Instead all he had was a worn down Paul Hornung who went like 12 for 39 and even missed 2 extra points when PATs were only 10 yards! Cost the Packers 4 of their 5 losses that season!

He isn't performing like a top 10 CB, so not sure why you chose the number 3? Or did you mean top 3 CB's on the Packers?

Again, I never said JA isn't performing ok, but his average type of performance, along with his lack of hustle on the field is very disappointing and disproportionate to what he is being paid. If his play continues as it has this season, during the remainder of his contract, I will be very disappointed in the contract that the Packers gave him. Further, the Packers will have looked like they way overspent the $21M/year they are paying him to be elite, money they could have used elsewhere to improve the team.
He’s been damn solid far more often than not. We are just used to never hearing his name on telecasts because teams very rarely throw in his direction. Now that he has a few bad moments on tape, it creates the illusion that he’s playing bad in totality.

Based on my eye test, he’s been pretty good for most of the season. Far, far above average.

Besides the eye test, he was 1 of 4 NFC corners that were selected to the Pro Bowl and 1 of 8 league wide. I know that’s not the end all/be all, but clearly others feel as if he’s having a pretty strong season.

The captain gave you a concrete stat about passer rating when targeted.

I think you are a little too caught up in his admittedly bizarre behavior this season that you have a tainted view of what he’s actually doing on the field. Because statistics and accolades show he’s doing quite well.

If your eye test is showing something different, than so be it. But I’m not seeing the same thing.

Those things and the other players in our defensive backfield would be a lot less effective if he was not out there. Hopefully, we will put him on Jefferson this coming game. He's still gonna need some help but we can't let Jefferson do what he wants like last game. He just destroyed the zone scheme and that scheme limits Alexander. We can play a hybrid zone that does not include Jaire when Jefferson is on the field.

Yeah, Pro Bowl votes are by fans, they don't mean a whole lot to me.

The Captain gave me a concrete stat of....JA is 8th in the league in lowest passer rating when targeted. IF you think that is a slam dunk indicator of JA is playing like the highest paid CB in the NFL, you need to look at more things. Did you look at the PFF Stats I posted? Probably not, because your eyes tell you different. You will have to go to page two and down to the 73rd CB listed.

Don't know if Gute could have kept Jaire and paid him less. But we will have to see where he ranks in the highest paid corners in two and three years. Would like that trend to stop but we don't seem to have gotten to that place yet. Probably the salary cap will more or less explode instead.

There is no doubt in my mind that Gute had to pay JA that much or he walks. JA wasn't going to settle for anything less than top money. I cautioned it at the time and was told I was crazy by some, same goes with Bahk. I'm not trying to act like I knew JA or Bahk would give us less than we paid for, but I do know its a HUGE risk to pay guys the top, guaranteed money for their positions, especially when you already have a bunch of guys at or near the top already. Add up Rodgers, Bahk, Jones, Clark, Smith, Amos and Alexanders salaries and you have a very top cap heavy team. Can't imagine what it would look like had they paid Adams. Honestly though, I would have rather seen Adams stay and lose JA. Rashan Gary is about to be added to that list. Love the guy, but hope they don't overpay him.

Well of course some fans are pissed, the ones paying attention to what he makes and what he does. All 3 players you mentioned were not stellar CB's for sure, however, they weren't paid like ones either. Alexander is making more per year than the rest of the entire secondary (starters and backups) combined, think about that.
Hey I’m with you on this. The highest paid position players need to play like it. I’m not sure JA is even one of the best 10 CBs in the league. He needs to shut up and nut up. I’m tired of his talk and lack of accountability.

If the Packers didn't pay him, someone else would have, and we'd have had to invest in someone else who would have ended up not being quite as good, and just a little cheaper. Personally, I'd rather have Alexander, because he has learned how to compensate for what is obviously difficult coverage assignments.

I wouldn't get too bent out of shape on how well he's playing. He's had to cover some darned good receivers.

The Packers do have a tendency to overpay their own guys. And there’s a limit to that. Without some sleight of hand, how do they keep Gary?

This is true, we traded away Adams, and banked on rookies. This rests on Gute's shoulders. Some of look very impressive, but can't stay healthy, the best ability will always be availability. Now I don't look at this season and say SB or bust, but damn, coming off three 13 win seasons and getting, showboating, injuries, some might say lackluster play was not what any fan, IMO, was hoping for.

They will keep Gary and it will take the typical shell game to do it. Move money here, take it from over there, pretend like you aren't actually spending money and push it out further.

Compared to a lot of other teams and previous Packer seasons, we actually fared really well when it came to injuries this season. No team goes through a season without losing starters, the key is to be deep enough at most positions to absorb the loss. I would actually say the 2 injuries (thumb and ribs) to Rodgers might have been the most devastating to the team and they didn't even knock him out of playing. So Kudos to Gute and the coaches for having pretty good depth across the board.

because somebody is going to overpay for FA's. If you want to keep them, you have to pay them and if you draft and develop one of the premier guys in the league and just let them go instead of pay them, you're not going to go far either. Jaire could use a little attitude adjustment IMO, but if you're not going to pay to keep guys like that, how are you going to get playmakers? sign someone else's? guess what they cost?

Actually the pro bowl vote is comprised of fan vote, player vote, and coach vote. With each category of people holding an equal 1/3 weight toward the voting formula.

I agree, injuries in a season is unavoidable, but the ability to overcome those injuries has been inconsistent all year. Someone is hurt, sub and game plan. Something has been off about the game planning around injuries this year.
