Studs:
1. Preston Smith
2. JK Scott
3. Adrian Amos
4. Darnell Savage
5. Blake Martinez

Duds:
1. LaFleur's playcalling
2. MVS

Overall, may more studs than duds. Disappointing overall offensive performance, but it's the first week and it's against a strong defense.

I don't think I noticed until tonight that Trubisky's throwing mechanics are not very good. He's got a long windup and consequently a slow release. I guess getting steady pressure on a guy for a change exposes things.

Duds:

Rodgers: who keeps proving YEAR AFTER YEAR he has to play at least 1 quarter-1 half total in the 4 pre-season games total. Abysmal pretty much all night except on what 2 drives?

O-Line: Rodgers was picking himself off the turf too much tonight

Studs:

The whole damn defense PERIOD!

JK Scott: How often do you notice a punter in a football game unless he's limping off the field or shanking punts?

We just beat many pundits SB pick. In their house. On our offenses first game with a new system. Our defense outplayed what many consider the best defense in the NFL.

I would think that was a good thing.

I'm not sure I'd say we outplayed them but we kept up. 4th and 40 means our defense was great. 1st and 40 means their offense made some mistakes (just using that as one example)

On another note I’m happy for the defense. It’s been a long time since they actually been able to consistently stop someone. Once those takeaways start piling up, skies the limit!!

We only got the one tonight but we were close on several others (most notably the King drop) Some will say it only the Bears offense but I like the way we were on the ball for the most part. There were a few big plays and Robinson had over 100 yards but he didn't kill us. We had several missed tackles but again for the most part the second group was right there to limit the damage to a few extra yards.

I gotta say the O-Line play was pretty rough. Bakhtiari and Taylor had 4 holding calls combined all last season; 3 in this game. Turner had a rough start then seemed to settle in. The run blocking was a bit of a mess. Sure, it was the Bears front 7, but they gotta do better than this.

For the record, I hate the 3-man rush, then, now and forever.

A win is a win is a win.

I am confident that they will. That Bears front 7 can make anyone look bad and do stupid stuff. They are that good. The good news is ours looked pretty darn good itself tonight. Not saying they are equals yet but I think the gap has closed.

To go back to what you said in another thread about the importance of penalties, particularly holding penalties on offense and how they can be as bad or even worse than a sack, I couldn't agree more. The Bears dialed up the third down sacks tonight and they will kill drives faster than anything but a holding call even on first down puts you 20 yards in the hole and even more so when it negates a big gain. You see it every now and then when someone mentions that a penalty even though it only cost a team 5 yard officially really may have cost them much more than that. As much as I hate new stats it would be kind of interesting to see just how many yards are really lost when you factor in the negated plays. On defense it may be 3rd and 40 but a 5 yard defensive holding call gives the offense a first down so its kind of like giving up a 40 yard play.

Its one thing to get outplayed. I mean after all they are getting paid too but stupid penalties are what frustrate me the most.

I gotta give Rodgers a stud on one particular play and it was one he didn't even run. It was 3rd and 8 I believe and the clock was running out and he DIDN'T call a timeout. For years I have been frustrated when he wastes a timeout to save the 5 yards. In this instance I was pleasantly surprised that he didn't. Of course we only had 1 left at the time so maybe that had something to do with it but still it shows progress.

Cherry Starr watched this one alone. I’m so pleased we could bring home a win for her. GPG!

As was pointed out before, MVS was our leading receiver. He didn't light it up but if he earned a place on your dud list he certainly needs to be joined by Adams and the rest of the receivers. If you aren't going to include them then I don't see how you can single out MVS.

And I'd like to add Jimmy Graham. This was the first time that he showed up for us when he needed to.

The defense was amazing, in my now 7th season being a Packer fan it was a given that the D was gonna crumble with the game on the line. NOT ANYMORE! It's almost 6 am here now, but I am happy to have stayed awake to see the birth of this impenetrable wall! GPG

PS: For anyone hating the offense, yes it was a poor showing. But it was the first game under MLF, away, at the best D of last season. A lot of our players are still wet behind their ears. Give it time, they will be better.

If I would have told you before the game that the Packers would score only 10 points, there isn’t a chance in hell you would have projected a victory. The Packers escaped with a win tonight thanks to one of the best defensive efforts I’ve seen in years from this team.

... and, one of the best Punters I’ve seen since Ray Guy. No doubt. JK Scott was our MVP.

As bad as our offense was, Lane Taylor and Billy Turner are awful. Two big SLOW guards who couldn’t move anyone smh. Idk how long they plan on keeping Jenkins on the bench.....but I hope Rodgers is still able to play when they make that move. Idk what they saw in Turner Anyways

On another note I’m happy for the defense. It’s been a long time since they actually been able to consistently stop someone. Once those takeaways start piling up, skies the limit!!

I like both Taylor & Turner, but, you’re right, they sucked it tonight.

I had to keep reminding myself throughout the first half that this wasn't a preseason game. Sloppy NFL Week 1 football we've come to know and love.

I'm not going to restate all of the obvious notes on the defense other than to say all of the new guys looked pretty good. Great team effort. They'll be stepping up the QB food chain next week so we'll see what kind of follow through they can put up.

The special teams crew, not just Scott, should get a shout out. Other than T. Williams blindside block penalty, it was a clean game. Scott might be the game MVP. If he doesn't get a game ball or a gold plated shoe or something there is no justice.

Raven Greene took every snap or close to it tonight, and I believe every snap at #2 ILB when there was one. He looked pretty good. Burks may have trouble getting his job back. Maybe base D for him.

Oh, man. Couldn’t agree more with you. F’ing hate that 3 man rush as well.

Guys an interesting thought I saw in one of the comments on Facebook regarding Matt Lafleur's challenge. Granted it wasn't a good challenge, but one theorized that he challenged that to allow the defense to catch their breath. It may be a stretch but I thought it was interesting.

Ramblings:
The Cubs and White Sox both outscored the Bears on Thursday night, that says it all about the play of the defense. The Bears either don't have or didn't show much of a north/south running game that could get to the second level so the questions about the ILBs still remain but, I absolutely love the Smiths and the pass rush. No more pounding square pegs into round holes a la Nick Perry (always liked him but, just not a fit). Kenny Clark's a HOFer if he stays healthy. He's as good on the nose as he is in the gaps.

Everything about the woes of the offense above is correct but, I did see some interesting scheme stuff. I like the fake reverse play action. That will only work if somebody in the WR corps steps up and shows some speed. I saw a lot more Joe Gibbsish offensive line play than we've seen in the recent past with McCarthy's scheme with the bunched TEs and counter trayish run blocking. Don't know if that's new scheme or something dialed up just for the Bears. If it's the former, it will take time but, I like the approach. Don't know if we have the guard talent to do it. Collingsworth loves to rave about the zone blocking cutback runs but, that's tough to do on a consistent basis against the good defenses.

Aaron has got to get over the Drew Bledsoe disease. Get rid of the ball!!!!!!!!!! I liked the shovel passes. I assume they were mostly ad-lib but, it's as close as #12 gets to check-downs. I want to see more of this!!! Remember when the fans used to cheer Favre when he threw it away instead of forcing throws into coverage? Let's hear those roars when Aaron throws it away and avoids the sack!!!

A great way to start though. Go Pack go pack go pack go!!!!!!!!!!

I will go to bed now.

On a serious note, I only saw the highlights but I cannot watch Rodgers anymore without screaming at the TV. Why does he always HAVE to try the long ball ???

Not sure what to make of this comment. You came to this conclusion how? Thanks a lot though, I guess.

Another Packer I'd like to add to the studs list, Trevor Davis. I think I noticed the entire state of Wisconsin skip a beat when Davante stumbled off the field, only to be replaced by Davis. Only for Trevor to immediately step up on an important drive and make the catch.

For sure their offense made mistakes. But those penalties to 1st and 40 wherr for holding. Which thwy had to do because a OL was being overwhelmed by the Packer pass rush.

To be fair he used short routes and throws alot. The highlight only show the longs ones.

The Offense had to play the best Defense in football. That is a really tough task for a complete new offense. It wasnt pretty but they showed some pretty good plays and I see a lot of potential.
AR really looked nervous in the first quarter, 2nd qt. was really good and the rest was just everyone struggling with the new scheme. This happens and will be gone soon. At least I hope so.

Luckily the defense really played like a Top 10 defense and balled out. Its insane but literally everything looks better and faster. The DL is frigging huge and had so many pressures, the safeties did really well and the tackling was suprisingly solid lmao. Standouts were the two Smiths, Savage and Amos. I dont think its a coincedence that all new guys went wild.

Studs: JK Scott- This high school kid is a beast. I dont think that I have seen such a good performance by a Punter
the Smiths- as written before they were everywhere and were incredibly productive in their first real game. I am hyped for these two
Savage- showed some insane potential: unreal how fast he is and therefore how much ground he can cover
Amos- clear upgrade to HaHa; Bears fans tried to deny it but now were proven wrong :D

Duds: Gonna name the whole offense here; I know it is an unthankfull task in the first game with new scheme but it was really ugly; especially Bakh and Taylor had a rough day, Bulaga was playing really good, same goes for Linsley;
Tramon- while he had some really good plays, he let 2 bears drive live with some stupid penalties
the refs- wtf was that game? They had a clear agenda and really wanted the Bears to win.

Studs:
- Defense
- Double A (talk about "karma" for the Bears !)

Semi stud:
- Rodgers on 3-4 plays ...
I think there were 3-4 plays were Rodgers actually threw into coverage (the JG TD was into double coverage ...) trusting the receiver to make a play ... - which is seldom seen from him except when it comes to a select few (in the other past seasons ...)
Also at the end of the 3rd quarter where the pocket breaks and he rolls out to his right ... Rodgers makes a throw that reminded me of Favre (across his body to his left) and threw it up field ... - again into coverage and it could as easily have been intercepted ... however ... - that isn't something we've seen alot from Rodgers ... usually Rodgers would have thrown this one away ... instead he gave the receiver a chance ... - I like that !

Duds:
- Offense
- Rodgers (he needs to start taking what the defense gives him and not always looking for the long completion, and holding on to the ball for too long ...)

Semi duds:
- O-line ... however, when your qb keeps holding on to the ball against a defense as the Bears ... it makes the job even harder ...

I couldn't really see what was going on downfield, but how many 3rd and 10 or 15's did this team have last night? Seemed like a lot. A QB is going to hold the ball unless they're just conceding the play. a 6 yard completion is pointless unless you're hoping to get lucky. If that's the case, let's hope to get lucky downfield and actually extend a drive or loosen the defense.

I understand at times the criticism with Rodgers holding the ball too long. Those 3rd and long situations aren’t it though.
