Not sure if it has been mentioned yet, but was so nice to see Pettine down on the field to celebrate this win. I know some fans prefer him up in the box, but this defense and its players seem like "his guys", so it is nice to see him in the trenches with them. I get the sense that this team has already jelled with each other and it isn't just a couple of guys patting each other on the backs, its everyone getting excited for everyone else. Of course winning always helps do that. :)

Great scene in the locker room after the game.

That was supercool!!!! Great to see how this team has really come together.

Really sucks that Rodgers isn’t more of a leader.

Heated debate over where the DC should be during games is peak forum.

Preston Smith and Za'Darius Smith combined for half as many sacks in wk 1 (2.5) as Matthews and Perry accrued in a full season last year (5).

Studs: the GREEN BAY PACKERS DEFENSE actually winning a football game nearly single handedly

Also Trubiscuit for being slaw as hell.

Dud: Aaron Rodgers played a lousy football game. Gotta call it like it is

Yes, Rodgers didn't play a great game but last season only 3 times did the Bears' D allow a QB with a rating above 75 (one of them was to AR and another was to Brady). This was the first time our offensive starters played in a real game with a new scheme on the road in prime time against arguably one of the top defenses in the league. I'll take it.

Studs: David Bakhtairi - he showed his pro bowl billing by showing up Mack at times..bravo
Amos - pick sealed the deal
Z. Smith - clay who? he is a weapon
MLB - did a nice job in contain
Savage - this guy is for real. sweet play and coverage
Scott - punter used what he had in a very effective way
Tramon Williams - crafty vet using smarts on big plays
Alexander- he negated the 1 from having a huge impact
olb's no cohen killer - no clay no slow - no overunning the play - kept contain and stuffed him and the short passing game. vvn
MVS - nice catches and kept the O from looking anemic

Duds: Rodgers - happy feet and nervous---looked like the Majik man, are our WRs that bad, get in the game, u looked like David Whitehurst
LaFluer - challenging a ridiculous play....not switching TE's and showing what we have
Lane Taylor - never mind.....sucked
Bulaga - same
Allison - invisible
Trevor Davis - return only - sucked

All in all, beautiful win! this is something to build on go pack!

Huh? I thought Bulaga had a great game!

Guys an interesting thought I saw in one of the comments on Facebook regarding Matt Lafleur's challenge. Granted it wasn't a good challenge, but one theorized that he challenged that to allow the defense to catch their breath. It may be a stretch but I thought it was interesting.

He said after the game he was cursing himself for calling such a dumb challenge.

I blame the Oline mostly for the poor Offense. They sure couldn't block for the run or the pass. Aaron Rodgers did not play at all in the preseason and it looked like it. Rodgers doesn't even want to do joint practices with other teams. Then he comes out a lays an egg.

That Bears' D is gonna make a lot of good QBs look foolish. This is the first real game the offensive starters played in this new offense. It was frustrating to watch but it was still game #1.

Well, it kinda was. ;)
Yeah, but you're supposed to at least go through the motions. I find myself constantly rewinding plays to get the number of defensive players who made or missed plays. Unless it is something obvious, a pick or a sack or something obvious in space, these guys talk about what the offense did or didn't do. Then we get, "oh, yeah, that ball was tipped" or "oh, yeah, that ball fluttered on the hit". How about attaching a name to that? They've got a whole staff and some spotters. Once again, its fantasy football poluting the observation of the game. No points awarded for that "other stuff" on defense.

Going up against Mack and Floyd all night it speaks volumes that it was only 2...
He played two games against these guys last season with no holding calls. So there's that.

It would be foolish to question Bahktiari's skills as a pass blocker, but he was party to a sub-par O-Line performace. You can chalk it up to rust or alterations to the blocking schemes rolled out for the first time, but there were too many missed blocks and guys going unblocked.

So true HardRight... Bakhtiari just had a rough game (one of his worst), and handled Mack for the majority of the time. A combination of all of that, plus being stone cold with no preseason game reps. They pulled it off, and I'm guessing they all will have added motivation for next game v. MIN.

Man I knew that Lane played a poor game, but watching again, that dude got his *** whooped most of the night. Like I mentioned Thursday night, I have a feeling we’ll be seeing Jenkins sooner rather than later if this garbage continues.

Here is the thing about that challenge. At the time it looked pretty crazy to challenge the call, but I think it stemmed from Gabriel pushing off a few times during the night and the Packers finally thought they would catch him. Challenge didn't work but, it wasn't that much later in the game, Gabriel caught a long pass, but this time he was flagged for OPI.

So who knows, MLF might have been way off challenging that first one, but it may have just given the officials a nudge to keep a closer eye on Gabriel and call the second one.

One example was Bak lining up his feet just a smidge too tight to the Guard. Mack is not just strong he also has football smarts. He took a direct Bull Rush and within 1.5 steps Bak was pushed into the passing lane. Rodgers had no choice but to tuck it and take the sack.
Bakhtiari rarely makes those types of errors so I’m not being critical of him he’s fantastic, other than to point out even a well seasoned OT making a minor footing error can be detrimental.

It might be the salesman in me, but if I’m MLF I'm not just challenging the play. I’m shouting at the Ref “Ref.. He’s been pushing off all night! If he pushed anymore? he’d be arrested on a Felony charge for distribution!”
