Way to shine that crystal ball... Yannick Ngakoue was just released by the Ravens. Win a waiver claim & he may be that 4-3 DE you were hoping for? 6'-2", 246 lbs so considerably smaller than LVN & all others on depth chart but for $657k (remainder of '24) may be situational pass rusher?
Best stat years were as 4-3 DE, and has played for 6 teams already... maybe our turn? ;)

That potentially would be a good pickup. He's only 29 and has been very productive for a lot of teams. Not sure why he wasn't getting much playing time this season with the Ravens, his 2nd stint with them. Could be they are well stocked and he hadn't fully recovered from his broken ankle from week 14 last year.

Those are tires that might be worth kicking.

Patriots grabbed Yannick Ngakoue off waivers. They had the 3rd waiver position.

Didn't know where else to put this. Just an opinion. If Wicks is going to be like Adams and keep dropping passes this year; I'd rather Heath plays and see if Wicks comes around next year. Heath hasn't been given much of a chance this year. I'd like to see him play. More than Melton really.

Sometimes the only way to play out of a slump, is to keep playing. I thinking sitting Wicks isn't in the plan, since the Packers see a nice upside with him. Wicks is a heck of a route runner, who just needs more reps and confidence. I think he will eventually come around.

Heath has been on the field for 85 offensive plays and has only been targeted 5 times (4 catches for 26 yds.). So he has had some chances. I'm not saying that Heath may not turn into a good WR, but I think the Packers are going to stick with Wicks through the season.

I hope they don't if he doesn't turn it around real soon. He looked so much better last year. And it is hurting the team

I don't think Wicks should be completely benched but he is hurting the team. Reducing his snaps in favor of Doubs and Melton makes sense. Wicks should still get some passes thrown to him so he has the chance to play his way out of his funk. Wicks is a fabulous route runner but that doesn't help if you drop the ball.

The only thing that gives me hope is that during Wicks Rookie season he posted a more normal 65% rec rate.
I do know there were several excusable drops this year, such as poorly thrown balls, but he’d still be well below 50% and unless you put up 20+ per catch that’s unacceptable.

For me he’s in Reception probation mode. If he doesn’t stay above a 50% completion rate over the next 2-3 contests I’d pull the plug. He can earn his way back up like everyone else. Nothing personal I’m sure he’s a great guy and I wish him the very best either way.

You do realize Doubs is ahead of Wicks, reducing his snaps would likely barely impact Doubs. It would impact Watson slightly more than Doubs but have the biggest impact on Melton and Heath

I wish I had a dollar, for every time I see a clickbait article with:

"Fill in player name here, linked to Packers."

I also found it funny that this "writer" makes a statement that "Rashan Gary misses his big brother"....yet doesn't quote where Gary says that. How does he actually know Gary misses Preston?

I do agree with the guy that as of now, the Packers won't be picking up Quay Walkers 5th year option, but that then again, it really doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out. The bigger question is "Will they pick up Wyatt's 5th year option?" At this point, I would lean towards "No", but that is one area where I think the defense needs to improve. Clark isn't earning his contract and everyone else on the interior is just "meh" right now. Watching the Rams-Miami game last night made me a bit jealous of other teams interior D-line.

Bet he is thrilled.
Well, the Patriots might not be a team going anywhere soon, but at least Ngakoue should get a chance to show what he has. If a team like the Chiefs had picked him up, I doubt he gets a ton of playing time.

I wish the Packers had gotten him, he's actually been a decent player when healthy and his legs must be well rested, he hasn't played a ton of snaps in the last year. If he still has gas in his tank and tread on those tires, he will surprise some.

I wonder if Wyatt would be open to a fifth year extension instead of option like we used on Love. Use some of next year’s money to cover some, keep hit in that fifth year lower than option and just somewhat higher next year.

I wouldn’t argue with this mindset, but I’m very mixed on using fifth year option as it stands…

It’s been a weird season on that DL. Most of our players have remained stagnant or diminished. Not sure why? One would think the scheme change would spark some players to rise.

I don’t know if it’s we’re trying to fit players into something they aren’t comfortable and time is needed to adapt?
Is it we just don’t have the best player fits for a 4-3? Idk.
I’d like to hear another DC like Bill B thoughts on why our productivity seems to have regressed slightly.

There are some 2 TE sets where Wicks and Watson are on the field. It's not many plays but I'd rather see Doubs get those snaps until Wicks starts limiting his drops.

Doubs even missing a game is by far our leading snap receiver at WR by a large margin, especially to the third and fourth most snaps (snaps per game are per active game for the WR:

Doubs - 439 (8 games / 54.87 snaps a game)
Reed - 394 (9 games / 43.77 snaps a game)
Watson - 290 (8 games / 36.25 snaps a game)
Wicks - 289 (9 games / 32.11 snaps a game)
Melton - 139 (9 games / 15.44 snaps a game)
Heath - 85 (7 games / 12.43 snaps a game)

There has been on average 66.77 snaps a game through 9 games. I'm not a 100% sure but I'd bet removing Wicks snaps does nothing to Doubs given the fact he's on average only missing a handful a game already which would likely are at times due to needing a breather.

Read this earlier. Not really a surprise, but kind of a surprise when I stopped to think about it.

Jaire Alexander, Kenny Clark, Rashan Gary and Elgton Jenkins are all that remain of LaFleur's 2019 team.

One thing about trading Preston, we may finally see more of Brenton Cox.

Was excited about that possibility even more after reading this.

"Jeff Hafley is “really, really excited” about what Cox can bring to his defense. On Thursday, Hafley stated that a two-practice stretch stood out to the coordinator as a sign that the defensive end “looked like he was ready to go.” As far as the scouting report goes, Hafley is excited about Cox’s speed and athleticism."

Little bit of stats for Kenny critiques (which I’m one for sure)….

He’s been seeing double teams on around 70% of his snaps….that is crazy high

Considering there are alway 5 offensive lineman blocking and sometimes even 6 or 7 with TE's, I would think that it's pretty common for a D lineman to get double teamed, especially your teams best one?

I know you aren't trying to make excuses for KC, but he was probably getting double teamed even more when the Packers were playing a 3-4 and he was still putting up decent enough numbers to get that big contract.

Hate to always use it as my fallback "argument", but guaranteed deals are killing the game. Players are making big bank and the motivation for working hard in the offseason, practice, in games, while injured, etc. are all but gone for some players. Is Kenny C one of them? Not sure, but he isn't the force you would like to see, when he is on the payroll for $21.3M/year.

Seems like if he was playing on the nose; he would be able to go L or R of center and maybe the double teaming would not be quite as easy. I don't know why he can't play nose on some of the plays.

Yup, a true nose is far less likely to be purposefully doubled.
