CB Rochelle was signed to the 53 (out of PS elevations) taking the roster spot opened with OL Morgan going on IR. Looks like Monk is next man up as backup IOL.

Tells me Jaire and or Williams are probably no goes today. :(

Thinking they might want to see what Alexander could bring in a trade for the 2025 draft. Can't trust him to be on the field. CB going to be a definite need in 2025 draft/FA period.

When CB is literally one of the weakest spots you don’t trade your best guy under contract to try to make it better….

Correct, that's why the Rasul Douglas trade was so damaging. Alexander was already injury prone and Gute dumped Douglas and drafted Hopper. Would you rather have Hopper or Douglas on this defense? BTW, even when Alexander went out, Stokes only managed a handful of snaps even though Nixon and Valentine were getting burned. Goes to show his time is done in GB.

Whatever happened to Oladapo?

I see he plays like 5-10 snaps on Teams once a month. Is he injured again?

I think of course with everyone being human that once Gute retires Rasul's trade could be one of his biggest "wish I had it back" moments as far as player trades.

Jaire and Williams are both active, Rochell is inactive. Tells me Rochell was elevated as a precaution in case Jaire couldn't, and once he was good to go, they made Rochell inactive.
Turns out Jaire wasn't ready. No surprise, how many games has the guy missed since his big contract?

I hope he didn't make it worse

I hope I am wrong, but I hope Jaire hasn't become soft. The dude is a talented CB, but he plays soft, and doesn't do much unless he is involved in the initial play. Watch him standing around when a play is away from him.

I think he gets involved. Gotta be tough to have these injuries that are so difficult to get over.

Aaron Nagler was going off on this exact topic in Cheesehead TV. Biggest thing is his availability. Paying a guy a ton of money to stand on the sidelines a lot.

It is what it is. Nagler can go off all he wants. Hopefully Jaire will be back. Our position is such that it makes no sense to do anything but wait.

It's a tough call for me because when he DOES play he's still generally a very, very good player, arguably an elite one (#7 on PFF's preseason rankings this year; #1 overall grade from 2020-2022).

So I guess the question is kind of...which is worse?

A.) A player who takes up a ton of money, misses a lot of games, but plays at a very high level when available
or B.) A player who takes up a ton of money, doesn't miss very many games, but doesn't play particularly well in them

For instance Kenny Clark has a higher cap hit than Jaire this year (~26m vs ~23m), and he's played a lot more this year, but he's been basically invisible for much of the season. Is that better or worse for us than Jaire's situation?

And then you get into the question of strictly cap hit vs total contract, or vs draft capital invested (how do you put a number on that?). Many have complained about Gary; he has the second highest AAV on the team and has not played a ton more than Alexander (by snap counts: ~64% vs ~56%) and has not been particularly good in most games. Stokes and LVN both were first-round picks, but both of them have played *less* than Alexander, and have been largely been less impactful than him when they have played.

I guess all that to say that when I look at all of our "questionable investments" I can't get too upset about Jaire's compared to some others. It sucks to be paying a guy that kind of money when he's missing a lot, but he's generally proven himself to be worth the price tag when he can play. And I don't buy that he has "gone soft" or is ducking games or anything like that. On the contrary he is usually the guy asking coach to be able to be manned up against the other team's #1. He's never seemed like the type of guy to shy away from a tough matchup. I know he's kind of an easy target because the bark often outpaces the bite and he talks a LOT (which rubs a lot of people the wrong way) but when he's on the field he almost always backs it up.

That's all we can do. I was just saying that I agreed with the point and Nagler pointed it out as well. Dudes just not been healthy and our CBs are not great.

It's worse than Jaire. Clark is a big disappointment. I don't know if I can think of a time that his name was called on Sunday.

LVN plays in more of a rotational position. Stokes is just a disappointment. He's average at best and does not play like a first round pick should.

They showed him a few times on the sideline too. You could tell he was super disappointed he wasn't on the field. He wants to be out there playing and tried to go. I just wish he could stay healthy.

I kinda feel similar about it to Bakhtiari. It's one thing when a guy plays up to earn a big contract and then just coasts and phones it in. It's another thing when a guy earns his payday and just can't stay healthy. I've got a lot more patience with the latter.

I agree. Although there’s a reasonable expectation to get over 50% of the available snaps over a season for guys making Top 5 Roster $$

The ideal contract for these big $ guys is a Win for both sides. There should be a financial kickback at several thresholds if a player misses significant time. I have no problem paying them 100% of that contract if they play 70%+ of snaps year to date. If it’s below that then a players total compensation should be 75%. If they can’t stay on the field for 50%+ of total snaps year to date their current paycheck should be no higher than a 60% salary rate.
Either that or make 40% of their contract tied to per game availability

I'll take C.

A player that plays at the level he is being paid for and plays at that level consistently. ;)

There are many players in the NFL that fit into that category, JA is not one of them IMO.

I don't even know who said it yesterday, maybe Tom Brady? He was talking about when John Elway (maybe Peyton Manning?) signed a big contract and someone told Elway "You earned it man". Elway responded with "No, I am now going to go out there and earn what they are paying me every time I play."

Football and for the most part all major sports has turned into this; "We are going to pay you based on your past performance and this pay assumes that you will continue to play at that level or even better." I wouldn't have a problem with that, if a lot of the money wasn't guaranteed. I understand guaranteeing against injury in a sport like football, but come on, how many career ending injuries do we see in a season? How many football careers that end, due to injury, should give the player $10-231 Million GUARANTEED?

The money has gotten asinine and guys like Jaire, that take a big paycheck and then are only available, when they want to be available, is ruining the game (for me).
