Stud: Kamal Martin. He showed today he can at least be the top back up on this team if not start.

Duds: Ty Summers. I think with that blown coverage on the TD he may have managed to play himself out of the rotation inside. Raven Greene. I've never seen a guy get so lost on so many plays in one game.
That is only stud you had today? Don't want to give the devil his due eh? ;)

Studs:

Devante Adams - career day...it doesnt get any better

Aaron Rodgers - really stayed in command, Dimes all over the place. Good Stuff

Jamaal Williams - very serviceable today, on of his finest performances in a while.

Duds:

MVS: I dont know what the disconnect is with him. Surprised at his lack of looks/production.

Pettine: Still too conservative when up, calling zones.

Special Teams: onside kick fail prolonged hope.

All in all, not a bad rebound. Adams cannot be more dominant. Houston is not what was once perceived. Need to get heathier all over.

It seemed as if he was actively rooting for Houston throughout the game. After that blocked punt, one could have mistaken him for a lifelong fan that found his way to the microphone after how excited he got.
To me that was just a natural reaction to the state of the game. Any viewer that is not a fan of a particular team wants it to be exciting. To a casual viewer this was not an exciting game until Houston started doing something to make it seem competitive.

He actually explained why he was rooting for Houston at that point, for a good game. And he was actively praising Green Bay the whole first half.

I actually really like Vilma.

Ya know, the Packers roster isn’t perfect by any stretch. But if you zoom out a little bit, they have elite players at every premium position.

At QB, LT, WR1, CB1, DL, and EDGE, when everyone is right, they have elite guys at every spot.

Rodgers, Bakhtiari, Adams, Alexander, Clark, and Z’Darius.

That is some kinda nice.

Vilma was a fantastic player.

As an announcer, he’s definitely not my favorite lol. Needs to study a little more.

Studs:

1. Davante Adams

2. Jamal Williams

3. Aaron Rodgers

4. The TEs

While I won't say it was a stud, give a little love to Mike Pettine and the defense for holding up when they were put on their heels

Duds:

1. Chandon Sullivan whiffing on tackle

2. MVS

3. ESB

4. Rick Wagner VERY BAD

5. Shawn Menenga and the Special Teams. FIRE HIM!!!

In regards to Rick Wagner...he’s a very, very, average player. With that said, Rodgers didn’t get hit once today. So while Wagner wasn’t perfect, and missed some in the run game against JJ Watt, how the heck was a dud? He wasn’t a liability. That’s about all you can ask for.

Rodgers

P Smith
Williams
Billy Turner (!!!)

Duds:
Dexter Williams
MVS (I can defend him no longer. He’s a decent speed threat for his $$&, and that’s about it)
The Texans for firing Bill O’Brien before the trade deadline.

The biggest difference between 2019 and 2020 Rodgers is that he’s not holding the ball, break the pocket, and trying to play hero ball. He’s won from the pocket, gotten the ball out, and worked within the offense. And it’s great.

Gee, outside of a couple of plays I thought Greene did okay. I think we should add P. Smith to the Stud list.

Greene was getting abused in the slot. He did almost make an interception on the outside, but when he got in the slot he was getting worked. Some of it was his fault because he forgot he wasn't playing safety and was peeking in the backfield.

True, but if you zoom in a little further they don't have enough quality depth behind those elite players at the positions you mentioned.

Larry McCarren is really high on MVS' downfield blocking.

Stud: Houston OC. One of the hottest QB's over the past few weeks with one of the deeper WR corps going against a team missing its starting CB and Safety and you run the ball ... a lot.
Midway through the 2nd qtr the play calls were close to 50/50 run/pass.

While I felt MVS early on exhibited that he had gotten better on his route tree....I'd now argue the most recognizable progression he has had this year is the blocking aspect as Larry pointed out. It may be the only thing he is providing presently....

The nice play on the sideline was him working out of the slot, btw.

Agree and they’re paid at an elite level too which is why it is difficult to bring in middle class veterans. I have a feeling next year will be more amenable financially to bringing in these types to fill holes because I believe a whole bunch of them are going to be at home without contracts.

I foresee this offseason as a FA year of one year deals and bargains. Dang Covid LOL

The obvious studs: Davante was a beast on Sunday - Houston had no answer.
Also Rodgers, and Jamal Williams, who made the most of his opportunity in a starting role.

A bit more under the radar: Jaire Alexander, who virtually took away Will Fuller.

And the O-line - Missing their best player in David Bahktiari and facing JJ Watt, yet that was a non-story. That's huge.

Also enjoyed Malik Taylor's first NFL touchdown.

Finishing drives with touchdowns, not field goals.

I thought the defense, minus a couple of starters in the secondary, did a respectable job against one of the league's most dynamic quarterbacks and a talented WR group.

The duds are a couple of big gaffes on ST, something for the coaches to harp on during the week.

Overall a sold team effort, but let's not get too excited - The Texans came in 1-5.

Now let's rip Minny a new one.

Major dud - America for not turning the clocks back this weekend so i missed pretty much the whole first half

from what i saw it seemed to be a pretty steady overall performance, a good way to get rid of the tampa hangover. the D looked like they were going to cause us to lose more points then got some good stops and restricted houston to a couple fg's, seemed to be getting more pressure on watson this week also.

That's right. The offense was great, but they also should be against such a poor defense.

Pettine's unit is who I'm more impressed with. The Texans defense has been hot lately. They scored 66 points in the two weeks prior to this game.

Packers held them to 20, with 3 coming off a ST gaffe, and another 7 coming in garbage time. They didn't allow any points at all until the offense had built a 21-0 lead. Three straight punts to open the game. This was also how they started against Tampa, but in this case the offense kept rolling, whereas they melted down against the Bucs.

Pettine finally wised up and called the plays where his guys play well and succeed. No idea why he doesn't do that all the time.

Did Pettine wake up? Or someone talk to him?

Or is the Def finally at the point now where this how they will play.. Ie no preseaon and players out of shape are now finally ready?

Hard to say.

I don't think Pettine has changed. It could be that the players are starting to get into a groove.

Guys are getting healthier. This was Clark's second game back. Z'Darius and Gary have been playing through ankle issues. Preston had his best game-- for all we know he's been dealing with something.

A lot of the defensive depth is also really young and they're starting to grow in their roles. I'm thinking of guys like Keke, Barnes, Martin, Greene, etc.

I think preston was out of shape as he looked heavier

Whether he plays really well down the stretch or not, they're probably going to need to move on from him. But it would be nice if he played well enough to get a little value back for him in a trade, instead of just straight cutting him.
