Better than a conditional 4th rounder for sure. If that is all they get, one has to wonder what they would have gotten if this process had started in February or even better, last year.

No sense is thinking on ships that already left port a LONG time ago.

I'd hope for a little more, possibly #13 for our #45 (instead of our #15) and I would also love to get Ruckert onto our roster... liked him last year & was sad to see him passed over for Rhyan in the 3rd round.

I strongly don't envision the Jets coming off of their first and a ton of other items for Rodgers. I just don't see that type of value there on Rodgers.

It is how lessons are learned though. The Packers FO let this pot of sour milk boil for WAY too long IMO.

Lets just say that Brett Favre has finally been replaced as the biggest waffler and diva in the history of the Packer organization.

Now the word is Rogers and the Jets have talked yesterday (with the Packers permission of course). And that Rogers is okay with playing with the Jets. Can we just get this over with?

Honestly, IF the balls all started rolling post-darkness this is still decently quick simply due to the fact of negotiations and such, terms of a trade can take quite a bit to work out honestly.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Packers and the Jets were in conversations pre-darkness and both were just waiting to see if Rodgers wanted to play another year. My guess is also, the longer the situation went, the less the Jets were willing to pay. Using Rodgers yearly waffle on retirement as a bargaining card.

The Rodgers threads will probably roar on, for just as long as the Favre and Capers threads did, but I for one am going to breath a big sigh of relief when this chapter of the Packers history is behind us. Appreciate having a HOF QB all these years, but prefer my football with a lot less salt and vinegar.

Of course they've been talking, they've hinted at it in the media as soon as the season ended pretty much and in the early/mid part of February they asked formal permission to talk trade with the Packers and Rodgers. They've been talking, for weeks already.

All happened weeks before retreat.

Officially placing prediction of Jets trade:

Packers Send Aaron Rodgers / 15th Pick / 259th Pick

Jets Send 13th Pick / 43rd Pick / 74th Pick / 2024 Conditional Pick Starting at a 3rd + one non-elite player (think Clemons, Ruckert...level)

Essentially Rodgers for a 2nd and two thirds and a depth guy
The Jets are in a position. If they don’t part with #13 free n clear for Rodgers it’s a bad deal. I understand our reluctance and timidity, but I’ll wait before I do that deal. Rodgers can sit on the bench and I’ll pay him 100m (I’m sure Aaron will appreciate being humiliated and watching me draft Johnston).
#13 clear or no deal for me. Now could you excuse me? I’ve got 2 calls coming in and one’s from Las Vegas have a nice afternoon.

So, maybe a silly question, but what do you think comes first:

1. Jets approach GB for permission to talk to Rodgers, get a personal agreement with Rodgers, and then return to hash out a trade deal with GB, or

2. GB and the Jets discuss a Rodgers trade and are able to work out a deal that satisfies both parties - then Jets are given permission to contact Rodgers and work out a personal agreement with him

A combination of your 2 approaches, but more of #2 than 1.

3. Jets reach out to the Packers to find out if Rodgers is on the market. Gute tells them they don't know yet, but if Rodgers wants to play in 2023 there is a chance he will be available. Gute then tells the Jets what the Packers would expect in a trade, Jets counter, Gute counters and finally the conversation ends with Gute saying: "well we are close, but there are other teams interested in him, now lets see what Rodgers says and talk after his decision and you have had a chance to speak with him."

Imo it’s already happened.
Now they are working out the contract details. I’m about 75% sure Rodgers/Jets talked extensively in the last 48 hours.

My guess went from 50/50 % probability trade/keep(retire) after that last game.
To 65% trade after the retreat.
To 90% chance he’s traded

Now it’s 50/50 % he’s traded to Jets
(50% another team). If I’m the Jets I’d be excited. Hackett must be peeing his pants.

Things weren't that much different in 2008, when the Packers decided to move on from a FHOF QB, Brett Farve and go with a pretty much unproven Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers had been sitting on the bench for most of the previous 3 seasons. Here are AR's first 3 year stats and Love's stats (to date).

Rodgers: 59 attempts, 35 completions, 329 yds and 1 TD

Love: 83/50/606/3

Guessing many people thought the Rodgers pick was a waste of a pick and the team would have been better off drafting someone else in 2005. However, TT and the Packers stuck it out and decided that even with the limited real game reps that Rodgers had, they were going to trade Favre and go with an unproven Rodgers.

Will Gute and the Packers do the same thing with Rodgers and Love? I guess we will find out eventually. I'm not predicting that Love will be as successful as Rodgers, but I think the Packer coaches and FO, know more than we do, of what they acutally have in Love.
In the end all we can do is speculate. Now that Carr is now a Saint, something is telling me the Jets may have heard that they may be a trade coming their way (just speculation). Honestly I just hope that the GBP can do everything they can to keep the fans happy. But honestly, that isn't possible, as you can't keep everyone happy with millions of fans. I hope we can see what Love can do, with more than just one real game, but either way, my attitude is (and will always be), let's go.

I agree, although as I think it was you that suggested it, they are probably more apt to include some future conditional pick(s), tied to Rodgers/Jets performance in 2023 and if he plays beyond 2023.

I posted this over in the "rebuild" thread but maybe this is a better spot so I will ask here too.

Anyone think there is any possibility that GB would be willing to absorb a little more of Rodgers' salary this season in exchange for a better trade return? Basically writing off 23/24 as a rebuild year but acquiring more assets for 24/25 and beyond. Don't know the numbers well at all but just had the idea pop into my head and made me curious.

We couldn't do a ton but could definitely see it.

So say you have to choose: #13 only or Their 2nd also 3rd and an additional 3rd/4th in 2024 which would probably be conditional....

We probably should stop posting things about Rodgers, because none of the rumors are true until Aaron himself confirms, I heard that here. Also heard here, nothing really happens until March 15th in the NFL, so we all should really wait for that date before discussing further.

I know you didn't ask me ;) But you for sure take the #13 pick. That pick is probably close to twice the value of your other package. They could trade that 13th pick for a first round and a second round, heck the other team might even throw in a 3rd rounder, depending on where their first round pick was.

I concur if those options are infront of me.

This is a draft that the Packers could really land some good talent in the first 2 rounds, if they can parlay the 2 picks that they currently have and if it happens, the picks they get from the Jets, into 4-5 picks in the first 2 rounds.
