Gotcha, I atleast understand your take better. That'd be a good exercise to do sometime Bucs then vs Jets now....I honestly have no clue who would appear to have the better pieces in place but that's a lunch time exercise I may just do for kicks and giggles.

The Bucs we so damn close the year before Brady joined them. That team, aside from Winston, was stacked. They missed the playoffs by 1 game if memories serves...with their quarterback throwing 30 picks.

I'm with Mondio--I don't think there any team in the league quite that close right now.

Which is why I don't want them to waste the pick. This is shaping up to be a massive waste of the GBP traded up to draft him and we never see what he can do (I'm sorry 3 preseason games, 1 regular season game, and some garbage time is not enough). We have JL's 4th year left, and if he never becomes the starter does anyone think they'll exercise his 5th year option? If so, then Gute better just hand in his walking papers at the start of the season.
Things weren't that much different in 2008, when the Packers decided to move on from a FHOF QB, Brett Farve and go with a pretty much unproven Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers had been sitting on the bench for most of the previous 3 seasons. Here are AR's first 3 year stats and Love's stats (to date).

Rodgers: 59 attempts, 35 completions, 329 yds and 1 TD

Love: 83/50/606/3

Guessing many people thought the Rodgers pick was a waste of a pick and the team would have been better off drafting someone else in 2005. However, TT and the Packers stuck it out and decided that even with the limited real game reps that Rodgers had, they were going to trade Favre and go with an unproven Rodgers.

Will Gute and the Packers do the same thing with Rodgers and Love? I guess we will find out eventually. I'm not predicting that Love will be as successful as Rodgers, but I think the Packer coaches and FO, know more than we do, of what they acutally have in Love.

I disagree. I think the 9'ers are just a QB away.

I agree with you, but I am only basing it on what the 49'ers and some other teams did last year. I honestly don't know what all the other teams scenarios look like for 2023. Do they have cap space for an Aaron Rodgers or Carr like signing? Are they losing other valuable pieces from 2022? I look at the Rams as a team that was powerful in 2021, but in 2022, even when Stafford was healthy, they had regressed and then when they lost Stafford and a few other players, they weren't very good at all. Hell, the Packers lost Davante, Rodgers got banged up and they were lucky to finish 8-9.

Which team is a contender in need of a quarterback aside of the Jets in your opinion? Rodgers won't be the backup while earning $60 million next season.
I'm not sure on teams cap situations, but there are some out there. Yes, the Jets are one of them. I'd say the Falcons, Texans, Colts, Raiders, Patriots, Saints, 49ers, Bucs, Titans, and Commanders could all use upgrades. Those that would be a QB away might be the Bucs, Raiders, maybe the Patriots. Possibly the Colts. Jets do make the most sense.

Schefter's take (reported by Erin Walsh) on the Rodgers situation, for what its worth. He makes some very good points.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Friday on SportsCenter that he believes Rodgers will either be traded to the New York Jets or opt for retirement:

"My sense is there continues to be more and more signs about him leaving Green Bay. And I think in the end, my sense is ultimately it will come down to whether he wants to play elsewhere, which would be really the New York Jets, or whether he wants to retire. To me, those are the two most logical options and the two most likely scenarios here. But again, we have not heard from Aaron Rodgers himself.

Yeah, I tried a couple of times to link it, will try again. The one you posted appears to be it.

EDIT: I was able to link it to the word "article". Still not sure why the direct URL for that site won't show up. Is it (Bleacher Report) one that we can't post due to copywrite or paid subscription???

Yes. When you watch Loves progression, there’s no denying he looks much more comfortable as of late. It was 37-23 Eagles, but after the Watson TD, it was a 7 point contest. Had our Defense not given up a 3 point FG on the ensuing drive??

It’s 30-37 and our Offense moved all the way down to the Philadelphia 14 with 1:13 on the clock and 4th n 4.
If he makes that first down? It’s 1st n goal with under 1 minute with 3 timeouts and 4 tries to score using any combination of run or pass available. On that drive #33 also dropped a perfect pass that hit our RB square on the numbers. That dropped pass would’ve resulted in a 1st and 10 from their 12 yardline with 1:50 to play and 3 timeouts.

Jordan really played good enough to Win that game, it was our Defense that came up short.

Jordan was 6/9 for 113 yards passing and 146.8 passer for 10 points. All That after a perfectly placed and dropped pass by #33 at the Philly 12 yardline. The only thing that stopped him was we needed 2 scores so we kicked a FG. He was really 7/9 and the other 2 passes thrown were both in very tight windows, but he took care of the ball and didn’t give the Defense a chance to steal it.

Agree and I think the FO agrees, but probably like most of us, wish that he could have played during the Covid no preseason year and had seen more real snaps along the way. It is what it is, they will be making his 5th year option decision, with no more information than they had after that Eagle game. If #12 wants to stay and they say "no", that leads me to believe, that they have a lot of confidence in Jordan and/or a combination of that and just being ready to jump off the Rodgers carnival carousel.

That’s true.

IF he starts or IF he is our backup?
IF he doesn’t show up hes going to be nothing but a big IF. Right now I’ve got bigger problems. I’m not even sure IF I can stop saying IF :whistling:

You are correct. Rodgers would indeed complete them, but they have little to nothing to realistically offer in trade.

I should have been more clear--a quarterback AND able to swing at trade with us. The Packers have also gone on record as saying that'd rather not trade him with in the NFC. I'd presume anything is possible, but NFC teams would be asked to pay a premium.

it would be very attractive to a Jets team looking to win RIGHT NOW and we enter the offseason after 2023 knowing if Love if the answer or if he isn't:

If LOVE is the guy: you have 2 Day 1 picks, potentially 2 Second Round Picks to build around him in 2024, and in 2025 you have two first rounders again with possibly (conditional) two picks Day 2 and perhaps something in 2026 as a cherry on top....by the end of 2023 you also know if Mims flourishes in a new environment or not, if Ruckert is more TE3/4 than potential TE2 and if Clemons level is Edge3 or Edge4 level; with the latter two still on rookie deals and costing next to nothing relatively.

If LOVE isn't the guy - you have four first rounders in the immediate two drafts if you need to package to go get a QB...and still have multiple Day 2s across the two as well.

As a co-Jets and Packers fan, I have to say that the Jets would be making a huge mistake to give up those picks for Rogers. That would be mortgaging a big chunk of their future for a guy who *might* last a couple of years(?) -- they're a team on the rise, and would be much better off getting a QB through free agency.

i'll keep it simple.
The Bucs had young proven studs at every level. Better defense at every level, better playmakers all over from RB, TE when Gronk came back, and 3 stud WR's plus depth. Offensive line was tremendous. and a proven coach.

Jets have some pieces, and they're good, I don't think they're nearly as ready as the Bucs were when Brady joined them. If I was a Jets manager, I'd want 2 years at least to realize the goal. I don't think they're as set up to do it now as others.
I agree. The Jets are a team moving in the right direction, especially on the defensive side. But they're not ready yet to challenge the top teams in the league. They need a much better O-line, a couple more offensive playmakers, and of course a competent QB.

I honestly don't think they will have to give up all that much for Rodgers. Depending on how this all plays out, the Packers might end up with a guy that very few teams, if any, will be willing to pay much for him. As @tynimiller has suggested several times, the Packers might have to take mostly conditional picks contingent on Rodgers being around past the 2023 season.

To put it bluntly. When you have a 1st ballot FHOF QB, that appears to have several years physically left in him to play at a decent to high level and there is all this talk of "should or shouldn't teams trade for him", it isn't really the level of play that is being discussed. What is being discussed is how long will you have the guy, how much BS will you have to put up with and how does that effect other players and the long term goals of a franchise.

If I were the Jets, I'd do what the Rams did. Which was get a vet QB that has been playing with a terrible franchise for years. They don't even have to give up any draft picks for Carr, just sign and go.

*this*. Exactly.
Honestly, if it wasn't for Love, who I definitely want to see play, I would be all over trading Rodgers and signing Carr. The Raiders have been a train wreck for years, I think that the team that signs Carr is going to be very surprised at how good he actually can be.

I would too, but from what I remember they have no draft capital to trade
That's the thing. The best they could offer this year is a 3rd. IMO the only way this helps us if if we also

I think Vegas is still an option for a destination for AR.

I hope so too and I hope there are 5 or 6 more teams in the bidding war. However, I understand if there are very few teams wanting to trade for him. Vegas currently has the 7th pick of the draft, they can probably trade less than what it would take to get Rodgers and pick one of the top 2 QB's in the draft. They might even be able to stay pat and get one of the 4 QB's. If I was a GM, I would be super hesitant to trade much for Rodgers, unless most of the picks were conditional on him playing beyond 2023.

If the raiders want him and IF we trade with them I’ll be honest that #7 pick may be nearly all you get.

If we are forcing them to send that not shocked if it ends up that and then nothing but this year third and next year second

Fully agree. The Raiders may not even be willing to give up that 7th. As I said in another post, that is a position where they can probably snag one of the top 4 QB's or move up to get their 1st or second choice.

IF Rodgers is traded, I hope I am wrong, but I think a lot of Packers fans have his trade value over inflated and that will become very apparent with what the Packers end up getting.
