ORDER IS NOT A FACOTR - PURELY THE POSITIONS IS ALL

For this part of the exercise I want you to provide what four positions would you prefer to see GB have picked by the close of the fourth round in this year's draft. For this exercise assume Gute doesn't trade anything and we don't double dip a position (just play along).

Also yes, discussions have occurred for other positions but the general overall consensus seems to be a "need" however you define it exists at iDL, EDGE, CB, WR and OL - so we will focus on that group of five.

I want CB, WR, OL in the first 4 picks, but go back and forth between IDL and ED for the 4th pick. I guess it would depend on the specific players.

But at the same time, I expect a trade back from #23, and at least 5 picks taken in the first 4 rounds.

I'm of the mind that we have 2 very promising young DEs in LVN and Gary. LVN had a messed up thumb most of last season and I think it really held him back. He was playing better down the stretch. I don think anyone at 23 is going to be better than LVN. Behind our starters we have 3 interesting players who we haven't seen what they will become.

I think CB is our biggest need but think only Barron might be there that would be value. Otherwise it will be likely, in my eyes, that a DT will represent BPA. Same can be said about WR. We should look for them on day 2.

I just don't want to trade up in the 1st round. And I think someone we like will be there at 23. Maybe trade up in the 2nd or 3rd

One common denominator though... everyone wants a WR in the 1st for Rds. The only option that doesn't have a vote is the no WR option.
The rounds are not a factor as the title says, you're not asking for the order, but the position groups.

I really think CB is going to be a top 3 need. From what I’m hearing the FO is fully expecting incumbents to rise at Edge/DE Plus some schematic tweaks could involve
Increased DB blitz or LB blitz packages. It wouldn’t shock me if we took a DE in RD1 or not at all. Meaning it’s always a position of importance, but not necessarily a MUST this year. Might go after a productive LB/DB/DT who excels in Pass rush etc.

CB/S I feel like would be a positions to double up on. We moved on from Ballentine and Rochelle and thus far have not dressed that. I think it’s a position we could do a 3rd/7th or 4th/6th something like that. Again CB is not our #1 need, but it’s a position that requires pipelining. We carry 6+1 it’s important.

There’s a DEFINITIVE hole at WR, iDT, not to mention expiring contracts. Again, WR often a 6+1 PS type position.

I also don’t think we NEED a RD1 DT. TJ was good but imo he’s not a Day1 level athlete either. The idea there is an upgrade could fill 2 needs. TJ’s ability to play 0Tech and a need for addition pocket pressure. Put Harmon, Walker etc.. and you get a duo benefit. You resolve the inside option + possibly get + in creating QB pressure from another angle.
It’s a very similar concept to our OL move this offseason. Thinking outside the box. We didn’t sign a Center, but a + Starter at LG allows us to shift and addresses Center or Tackle etc.

I see kinda what we’re doing in a bath mackwards kinda way. So far we’re putting into practice the whole concept of drafting position versatility. The adaptability aspect is nice because you aren’t pigeon holed in the draft.

IMO. Our worst missing piece is a iDL or WR and it’s quite possible we already have a WR in that room that pops this year. Yet having a Probowl Receiver might have the most profound impact or ripple effect imo.

Not to mention we have a #45 overall selection who’s a Pseudo WR (musgrave) stepping on the stage this year. I think he’s being heavily overlooked in general (not in this thread, I'm talking the Pundits aren’t even speaking to it as if he doesn’t exist) as far as his capacity to lift our Passing game. We have 2 TE’s that are capable of 600-800 yards and that’s nothing to sneeze at.
So we’re sittin’ pretty. We can go best available for a couple picks imo and it would barely affect us. Good WR talent and DT in later RD2-4.
