We often hear players or their agents saying "we had no idea they were even interested" after a guy is drafted. In some cases I am sure that is partly because the team doesn't want to tip their hand but in some cases I'm sure it is partly because with some players there really isn't any question. If a GM is sold on a guy why waste time with an interview either at the combine or the pro day or through an invite.

IMO there are two reason to interview players. One is to throw others of the track by making them think you are interested in players you are not interested in and the other is to answer questions you have about that player. If you are interested in a player and you have no nagging questions there is no reason to waste time with an interview.

Devante Adam's after being drafted.

Reporter "Did you have a formal interview or any idea the Packers were interested in you?"

Devante Adam's "I never had any communication or ever talked to the Packers"

Exactly. So why didn't the Packers talk to him? I can think of two reasons. First, they didn't want anyone else to know they were interested which may have been part of it but IMO more likely they didn't have any questions about him. Just because they didn't communicate with him doesn't mean they didn't do their research on him. If your research answers all your questions and you are satisfied that he will be a fit what is the point in talking with the guy if it might only serve to make others aware of your interest.

NFL Scout in 2014 on Davante Adams:

"He lacks the athleticism to take such a passive approach to the game."

Davante goes to work to work. I think what some perceived as "passive" was/is just focus on the task at hand and not a lot of diva and dancing like some great wideouts.

I was one of the ones screaming for Adam's head on a platter. But the guy worked his butt off and kept a great attitude. Now here he is, one of the best receivers in the league.

Jalen Hurd is my "bigger slot" of the day. At 6'4 224 he fits the bill. 4.4ish speed

I like the possibilities of using him outside as well.

In the 4th he would be a absolute steal. Wouldn't be a reach in the 3rd either.

If by 4.4ish speed, you mean the 4.66 hand time he ran at his pro day, then yes.

I think 3rd is way too early. 5th is a good range for him.

I do like him though. Although they have very different builds and games, I think he and Parris Campbell play the same role. Or at least they did in college. Bubbles, slants, drags, jet sweeps...although Hurd did get targeted downfield a little more.

It would be a fun gadget option to have for sure.

His 40 time range is listed at 4.47 to 4.68.

Let's just say he has good speed for a WR just slightly over 6'4 and 224.

You know EQ can fly and he is a similar size and ran a 4.48 at his combine. Probably would run a 4.6 today.

I'd honestly take Hurd over Campbell. I never liked Campbell all that much and I got fully off him when he fell and hurt himself at his pro-day. I was already shaky on him and that just sealed it for me.

Everything I've seen from his pro day is a 4.66, so I'm not sure where your range is coming from. I also don't get why EQSB is now a 4.6 after running a 4.48 at the combine...that's silly.

A 4.66 hand time is probably in the 4.7 range at the combine. Hurd clearly isn't a burner, and that's ok. Maybe he's still recovering from an injury, idk. I just know he ran a 4.66 and I like his tape.

Hurd's 4.66 for a 6'4 225 lb WR is pretty fast.

And you act like the difference between 4.48 and 4.6 is huge. lol.

I bet EQ would probably tell you he couldn't run his combine time today without training for a few weeks.

Look, I never said he wasn't fast. For his size, he's ok.

I never said the difference is large, but c'mon...why say it ranges from a 4.44-4.68 when the only official time we have is a 4.66? That's all I'm saying. You like Hurd. I like Hurd. There's no need to make up numbers for him at this point.

I was talking about EQ running a 4.6 right now and not his combine time of 4.48. He would tell you himself he can't run a 4.48 today without training for it.

The range is the 40's he ran. I forget what site I took the range from. I don't just "make up numbers" I don't care about Hurd enough to boost his 40 times. Hock I might think about it;). 4.47 is not official no. I do believe the information that he ran faster than 4.66 in the last year though.

Lol. Look, I've seen a lot of inflated 40 times from spring training with schools. I remember when De'Angelo Hall supposedly ran a sub 4.0 at VTech. Take those with a grain of salt. We have official combine and pro day numbers for a reason.

The forgotten man on the roster who profiles best as a big slot to me is J'Mon Moore. It will be interesting to see what he can do in training camp. Hopefully he can catch this year.

Look-- EQ ran a 4.48 and would probably run a 4.6 now because of reasons so Hurd's 4.66 was basically a 4.48... or something.

Given that slot receivers need to have great hands I'd say that's a pipe dream.

J'Mon definately needs to step up or he will find himself gone. There will be some intense battles to make this team this summer.

Will be a lot of competition this camp at all the WR positions except Davante's spot.

Don't forget about Allen Lazard. He is another 6'5 beast that has a chance at breaking out this season.

I'm very interested who the Pack is going to add in the draft to a already very good and loaded WR group..

Davante Adams

Geronimo Allison

Marquez Valdes-Scantling

Equanimeous St. Brown

Jake Kumerow

Allen Lazard

J'Mon Moore

Trevor Davis

In my opinion it's way too optimistic to consider the Packers wide receiving corps to be loaded at this point.

Lazard is a camp body. Great size but isn’t separating from anybody. I’d like count on Moore to have less concentration lapses but not banking on it. We have some nice talent but definitely need to add some competition.

Cool.

What I see is Davante as the #1 and 6 WR's that all will be battling for spots in camp. I am not including Trevor Davis because I feel if he does make the team or impact this season, it would be as a return man.

8 WR's and one more most likely added in the draft. I don't know what is "optimistic" about saying it will be a loaded position group in camp? I look forward to the camp battles. Should be fun!
