I don't think discounting what happened in the other 3 quarters is wise.

Blaming the QB is easier than admitting the Packers aren't as talented as Tampa Bay. This is SF all over again.
Talent wise of course we're not as talented as The Bucs, but I certainly do believe in the domino effect, in this case we had the momentum, but after those two picks, that gave Tampa life and as a result they rode with the momentum for the rest of the game and Rodgers clearly was rattled. I know it's easier, but I certainly believe it would've been a different game had those ints not had happened.

Look at their team! They've become New England in the NFC with arguably the best offense that Brady has had since the Moss days and their constant pressure forced Rodgers to make errors. It's taken them some time to gel, obviously, but the writing is on the wall man. You beat Rodgers by keeping him on the sideline with the run game - they have that with Jones, and oh ya, Fournette is healthy now. Their corps of WR's are the best in the NFL. Now they have Gronk heating up. We scored TEN points against them. They probably could have kept scoring too. Do you REALLY trust that Pettine can slow them down? To beat Brady you gotta hit him, we didn't produce ANY pressure. I'm not sure what's sadder, that the Packers got KO'd in Tampa or that some fans don't see the writing on the wall.

Once again....... Jesus freaking Christ do some people put way too much stock in one ****ing game.

But hey you do got some hot takes in here that would make ESPN analysts blush.

Can't wait to see the hot takes if the Raiders beat them tommorow. I wonder if they'll still be "The New England of the NFC" at 3-3 cause that'd be just as silly as saying it with them at 3-2

If Atlanta is looking to dump people for draft capital, maybe Calvin Ridley is a possibility, but even that seems a stretch.

Fans need to stop believing that other teams are interested in trading young players because they would address their own team's needs and their contracts could be fit under the cap as well.

Agreed. They have very few options on their current roster to trade a player away to recoup some of the cap hit, unless you would want to consider Adams, Bahk or Linsley. Below are the base salaries of the top 11 players on the Packer payroll. A Pro-rated portion of their salary would be recouped if they were traded. Linsley is the only guy I see remotely as "tradeable" and I wouldn't want to lose him on the OL.

Before someone says "Trade Preston Smith", you have to know that his dead cap would come due and that is $16M, so he is virtually "untradeable".

Davante Adams WR $12,000,000
David Bakhtiari LT $10,500,000
Corey Linsley C $7,650,000
Preston Smith OLB $4,350,000
Ricky Wagner RT $2,250,000
Billy Turner G $2,200,000
Jamaal Williams RB $2,133,000
Aaron Jones RB $2,133,000
Za'Darius Smith OLB $2,000,000
Adrian Amos FS $1,750,000
Kenny Clark DT $1,690,000

The Packers trading Wagner, Turner, Z, Amos and Clark would result in them taking an additional cap hit based on the prorated portion of the signing bonus still remaining immediately counting against the cap. The savings by trading Adams would be below $3 million because of it.

Also Preston Smith dropped into coverage 51 times last year by game 5. This year? 51 times. So that's enough of that.

I don't know where you've got that numbers from but Preston being on pace to be targeted 29 times up from 16 last season is a pretty strong indicator he's dropping into coverage more often.

Dude I also said restructure Rodgers to save 16 m which I got from info you posted. And release preston smith 8 m savings. So that's 30 million to spend actually...it is enough to sign bakh, jones, and julio.

Well, in that case there would be some smarter moves than spending it on Aaron and Julio. In addition I don't consider moving on from Preston to be a good idea.

Offer Pittsburgh a 2nd and 3rd round picks for Ju-Ju. He's been a 1,300+ years receiver but Pittsburgh obviously isn't interested in keeping him after this season (the advantage of spending draft capital on receivers) and if he signs a big deal with another team, Pittsburgh only going to get a 3rd round pick for compensation.

I don't believe it would be smart to give up that much draft capital for a rental player.

Actually, its a bigger savings than that if you cut Preston prior to the 3rd league day. Below is what the Packers shed, while still having the $8M in dead.
  • $6.85M Base Salary
  • $4.5 M Roster bonus ($4 M is for being on the roster 3rd day of league year. $500K is a per game bonus of $31.250K ($500K total)
  • $650K workout bonus
So if Preston was cut before the 3rd league day of 2021, the Packers would have the $8M dead cap hit to account for but would save $12 M on Preston's Salary and bonuses.

Given the cap situation for next year, this may be a guy that is squarely on the chopping block.

No, the Packers would save $8 million of cap space by releasing Preston before the third day of the 2021 league year. While they wouldn't have to pay hima total of $12 million in cash next year the $4 million prorated signing bonus for 2022 would count as dead money against the cap in '21.

If they decide to move on from him after the roster bonus is paid they would save only $4 million in cap space for next season.

Texans wr will fuller for a 3rd round pick, you cap scary guys should like this one. Fuller is a free agent after the season so he wouldn't have much negative impact on the salary cap.

Giants and everybody's favorite wr golden tate for a 5th. This would definitely help the team but not sure what his contract like

Fuller would still count $5.4 million towards the Packers cap for the rest of this season if acquired at the trade deadline.

Tate would be a bit cheaper at $4.2 million but still too expensive in my opinion.

Reading on twitter today that some think NO may be fielding calls on Michael Thomas.

Please, don't believe everything you read on Twitter.

The Saints can't afford to trade Thomas as they desperately need to save cap space but would take an additional hit of nearly $6.7 million for the 2021 season by shipping him to another team.

In the interest of fairness, we gifted them two TDS, and we have seen that we were very much capable of scoring on them as evident in the first quarter. The problem is that Rodgers just had a meltdown.

All players on offense contributed to that meltdown.

It can't be helped. That typically is going to happen when you get blown out, let alone by one of the better teams in the league. Plus in some people's eyes they still aren't over the San Fran game from last year and they still have PTSD. (I say that playfully)

But I do agree that while the lost was bad and whatnot, I still firmly believe it was more that we beat ourselves than Tampa beating us, but again I'm aware on in the minority with that line of thinking. If we hadn't spotted them 14 points, then I'm pretty confident we'd have a different game as after that happened, Tampa had the momentum throughout the rest of the game.

We just gotta bounce back and handle business. I certainly don't believe Tampa as the Juggernauts people think they are. I certainly would love to meet them in the playoffs for a rematch. Either them or Seattle.

It has been well documented that I don't consider the Buccaneers to be an elite team. While the Packers loss last week changed that opinion to some degree I still don't consider them the team to beat in the NFC.

With that being said and considering MLF wasn't able to come up with a better game plan the second time around against the Niners last season I prefer to not face them again in the playoffs this year.

...Well when you put it that way, you have a point there. I can't argue with that. Then again it may be the PTSD talking based off what happened last year. XD

Look at the numbers again. You and I might be talking about 2 different things. If the Packers cut Preston Smith on 2/1/21 his guaranteed money of $8M, that is still on the books for 2021 and 2022, all hits the Packer Cap for 2021. He has already been paid that money, it isn't "coming out of the Packers bank account." What the Packers actually save from coming out of their Bank account in 2021 is:
  • Salary: ($6.85 M)
  • Roster and workout: bonuses ($5.15 M)
  • Total of $12 M saved
Remember, they have already paid that $8 M to Preston in the $16M up front guaranteed. Granted, it accelerates $4M that otherwise would go on the cap in 2022, but that is a cap entry, not a check they have to write.

They also would "save" the $12.5 M in Salary and bonuses due to him in 2022, as well as the $4M of dead cap that would have been due, but accounted for in 2021.

ARod looking awfully friendly with Kenny Stills. Just saying.

I wouldn't doubt Rodgers would love for the Packers to aquire any of the Texans top 4 wrs.
Will Fuller, brandon cooks, randall cobb or kenny stills

I looked at sportrac and that's how I got the 8 million number. On there it says he has 8 million dead and 8 million savings if cut prior to 2021 season. I assume they are correct just because they have all the contracts on there but they certainly could have made a mistake.

Either way I think he's a strong candidate for release so the Packers can get bakh and jones signed. Or if you don't want jones, king who I suspect is in for a pretty large payday himself. As well as give more playing time to rashan Gary he was the #12 pick after all it kinda only makes sense that this was sortive their plan when drafting Gary. They probably wanted to hang onto smith thru 2021 because he has very little dead cap in 2022. But with the short cap next year I suspect they may have to do it then

My guess is that the Texans will keep Fuller. And the Packers can't afford Cobb, and shouldn't try to.

But Cooks and Stills are both interesting and would both be upgrades to the WR corps.

In truth I don't think we'll be going after any receiver considering the fact we still have Lazard. Once he returns and gets some games under his belt, we should be fine at the receiving position. I think the primary thing is that we're trying to save as much cap space in regards to resigning a lot of players next year.

“No trade” is always the most likely outcome. But I could see one of the Houston guys working out in that they don’t carry future cap implications.

I would love to see Cobb back in the Green and Gold. The fact that we never got him a ring is one of the greatest travesties imo.

I’m not with you on that one. His contract is prohibitive for the Packers. I think they’d be into him for about 8M in space next year if they made that move.

As I mentioned above you're right that the Packers would save $12 million in cash next year if they release Preston before the start of the league year. That's not the important number to look at though.

Lazard returning should definitely improve the receiving corps if he's able to return fully healthy. I would still consider the position to be in need of an upgrade at the trade deadline though.

“No trade” is always the most likely outcome. But I could see one of the Houston guys working out in that they don’t carry future cap implications.

Every single cent spend this season has implications on the available cap space next year.

I would love to see Cobb back in the Green and Gold. The fact that we never got him a ring is one of the greatest travesties imo.

While Cobb would be relatively cheap ($2 million) for this season when acquired at the deadline it doesn't make any sense because his 2021 salary of $8.25 million is fully guaranteed.

I've come around on the concept of Kenny Stills. I think he clearly is a more gifted WR than MVS. Is he quite as fast, no...but I say make that deal, release MVS. Let's get a better version of what we'd hoped MVS would be for us.

I was referring to their 2021 cap numbers. Obviously cap roll over is a factor, but Still is a UFA after this season, and Cooks can be released without any further implications.

I'm reading that teams are inquiring on the Jets' Quinnen Williams.

I'd trade a 1st rounder for him, but I'm not sure if that would get the job done.

Shoot...1st and a 4th I'd do before the phone rang...I could be sweet talked into a 1st and a 3rd most likely.

Shoot let's make the boards blow up and trade a 1st, 5th and Aaron Jones LOL

And the cherry on top would be making the heads blow up around here when they make a trade for someone who doesn't play WR.

I just saw that a Jets reporter says a source of his inside the organization is saying that Williams is not on the trade block.
I'd still make an offer, the Jets are beginning a deep dark rebuild.

Did you guys see the ravens and packers both made trade offers for Zach Ertz before he went on IR. Interesting but offering peanuts is not gonna get it done.. maybe we will see a move pulled off before the deadline I feel like if they make any moves it will be this week because of the covid restrictions

I'd be shocked if the Jets would seriously entertain any offer on Quinnen. Yes, they are in rebuild, but Quinnen fits just fine in a rebuild timeline. No reason whatsoever to trade him unless there are team/personality fit problems that I don't know of.

Exactly he is 22 years old still they aren’t gonna trade him he fits right in the rebuild process
