"Realistic" WR Discussions...

I would be equally shocked if the Packers sign Gordon, but still have to look at all factors if considering it. I doubt the Packers make any WR moves before Tuesdays's deadline. Only was I see a move being made at WR between now and then is if the Packer WR's totally crap their pants tonight, then we might see Gute pull the trigger on a trade. Otherwise, its wait and see and nothing left but Street FA's to sign after Tuesday.
The only way I see the Packers trading for name WR is if they put Adams on IR. It doesn't look like that's going to happen by next Tuesday.

I seriously could see them adding another. I think it would be smart if a proven talent presents as a good trade value. There are going to be a ton more sellers out there tonight, and, some great deals could be made, with exceptional talent out there.

To me, I feel we have great talent, but adding someone the quality of a Fitzgerald would be very good insurance at WR.

So many possibilities have to be opening up. I mean, how many here wanted us to draft Andy Isabella? I would imagine, for the right price, there’s your instant slot/chain mover. What was he? an R2? Would he be worth an R2 and an R4 next year? Unproven in NFL, but a gifted small slot WR/KR with speed, precise route running and great hands. “Chain mover” was his draft calling card. Just one example where ARI might like to make such a move. Never know what opportunities may present.

Could be a wild trade deadline and it will be interesting to see where Gutes pours some resources.

The Niners traded up to pick #44 to take Pettis in 2018-- one spot ahead of Green Bay. It seems they though Gute might like him. And maybe they were right? Pettis is out of favor in SF now.

Meanwhile, Jackson can't seem to find his way in this defense. He would fit best in a Seattle style defense like Saleh runs there.

Both players could benefit from the change in scenery. And I think there's more there with Pettis.

The unfortunate thing about the NFL though is that it's not like Madden where you can just "plug and chug" a WR into a scheme and then just expect 80/1000/10 + from him

But guys that could help us would be like say AJ Green who is an athletic freak and is probably viable with say a 3rd or so

Or a true slot/underneath guy (which we really need by the way) like Sanders

But those guys are older guys, I would really like to see Lazard and/or Kumerow more

Also Sternberger if given a chance

Another idea-- the Rams need to clear some cap space and recoup some draft capital. They might be willing to deal Robert Woods.

Woods would be great.

But do you think he would be THAT MUCH better than say Kumerow/Lazard???

My top 3, when Davante is back is:
Davante
MVS
Kumerow/Lazard

So is it necessary to get Woods if he's not THAT MUCH better???

Well we all know YOU don't think he'd be better than Kumerow.

You realize that Woods will have to learn a new playbook right? Develop trust, timing, and the relationship with AR too

I think he'd be a slight upgrade over Kumerow and Lazard for sure, but "how much"

If we had got someone like Aj Green, Julio Jones or Sanders(traded already i know) then it's a no brainer.. those guys are just much better

To follow up on the Robert Woods idea:

The Rams need to recoup some draft capital after trading so much away in the Ramsey deal, among other transactions. They also need to create some cap room, as they will be giving Ramsey a mega contract. Specifically at WR, they've paid Cooks and will certainly want to pay Kupp. Carrying three big veteran contracts at that position at the same time would be a challenge. Josh Reynolds is a pretty solid WR who would likely be able to replace Woods in 11 personnel. And lastly, Everett has begun to emerge as more of a receiving option at tight end.

So for all of those reason, I could imagine a willingness on their part to deal Robert Woods. Woods is 27 and has two more years remaining on his deal (basically 9M cap hits for both seasons). He would be a nice fit as a man coverage beater. He can play in the slot, though Kupp has obviously dominated the work there in LA.

If they would take a 3rd for him, I do that without question. Or maybe a 3rd and a player (Josh Jackson?). A 2nd would be a harder call, though it wouldn't be surprising at all if that's what they demanded given the Sanu trade.

Woods, Pettis, Westbrook, and (if healthy) Wilson are the most intriguing ideas to me at receiver.

Hooper or Howard would be great gets at tight end.

So basically a 3rd and a bag of donuts? ;)

So continuing our discussion from last week. If Gute only makes one move in the next 24 hrs. and it is for a decent starter, would you prefer an ILB or a WR?

I have been going back and forth, but after last night and watching Martinez play with a club and the Chiefs tear up the middle of the field, go get an ILB. I know, they aren't that readily available, but I think we see a bigger total impact by trying to improve there. Davante Adams should be back soon. Both RB's have become weapons as receivers. Lazzard is looking like a potential diamond in the rough. As much as I wanted more offensive weapons months ago, I would take a quality ILB at this point.

Glazer evidently did not ask himself the question, "Why in the world would Houston trade Hopkins?"

Houston is solidly in the playoff hunt. Hopkins is 27 years old. His contract is manageable and runs through 2022. Houston has $20 mil in the cap bank for a Watson extension if they are so inclined.

Of all the name WRs mentioned in this thread Hopkins is the last guy to be on the move.

Saw that and I LOVED this response to it! LOL But yes, I agree with you. Seems like a lot of fans right now seem to think EVERYONE is available for the Packers to trade for. I wonder if other teams fans are licking their chops over acquiring Davante or Aaron Jones from the
Packers. I can hear it now "I bet the Packers would take a 5th for Jones"

I'm still on WR.

They aren't benching Martinez. I just can't envision it. And of the possible options out there to play next to him, I don't see many that would help more than simply getting Raven Greene back. I also think that some of the more attractive linebacker targets would be making a much more significant scheme shift to come to Green Bay.

The need at WR is every bit as big to me, especially when you consider playing great man cover teams. And I see some potential options out there who would be able to transition fairly smoothly because of schematic similarities. I also think it's easier to bring a WR in and say "run these routes in these packages" and have them contribute, as opposed to bringing in a LB and saying "learn the defense."
