IMO, the most likely scenario to immediately improve our depth on the OL is to sign someone with NFL experience to back up some of the starters. I will take your word for it that currently THAT player doesn't exist on the FA market, but that also shouldn't rule out TT looking around to swing a trade for that player either.
If what we are talking about is merely a servicable backup, we should be able to get such a guy for either a player and a late round conditional, or a mid round pick. Neither of those scenarios are prohibitively expensive to us, in the context of keeping Spriggs and Murphy off of the field full time till they either develop further or gain some more experience.

Imagine as a for instance sending Davis or Allison and a 7th round conditional to Cleveland for Sterup, or someone similar from another team.

I get that, but do you seriously believe that one of "those" guys, that as the OP suggested, who is currently sitting on another teams PS, is actually going to step right in this year and help what appears to be a lack of depth?

I agree that none of the players Arthur mentioned would improve the quality of the depth on the offensive line.

I hope I am wrong and we may find out as quick as this Sunday if Bulaga can't go, but I think we are in a bit of trouble when one of the current 5 starting OL can't play and god forbid, 2 of them go down.

While it's definitely a scary thought to lose one or even more starters on the offensive line to injury it might improve the team's chances of signing a veteran free agent to step in ahead of any of the backups currently on the roster.

There is always that, but we saw how that scenario played out last year at RB and CB. ;)

Like I said before, I think the time is now....to prepare for what probably is the inevitable. What are the odds all 5 OLineman make it through a 16+ game season? Strike while there are still irons in the fire so to speak.

Ok...What decent FA pickups or backups are out there chomping at the bit for a backup job for the illustrious Green Bay Packers? Are there any available that have not been picked up on other teams. Even go so far as saying CFL or ARENA FL. I hear what you are saying, but I dont think there is anything available.

I present to you exhibit A: Ahmad Brooks and exhibit B: Quinton Dial........you are coming to see a SB quality team SHF80...... :coffee:

I would be fine with the Packers trading a late round pick, preferably a conditional one, to acquire a serviceable backup offensive lineman but there's no reason to give up a mid rounder.

I definitely agree the Packers are in need of an upgrade behind the starters on the offensive line but in my opinion the team would be able to sign a higher quality player once a starter is lost due to injury than right now basically searching for a backup.

While former Viking/49er G Boone would be an intriguing signing, I think his price might be too high for a backup, but he seems like the kind of guy who would want to stick it to the Vikings and a chance to do that and a possible Super Bowl, might be incentive enough for him to sign cheaper.

Boone signed a contract with the Cardinals today.

Seattle has the best defense in the NFL. The Packers potentially have the best offense? Who wins this game? Hard to go against the Packers at home, but when Pete Carol has this much time to prepare we know what he can do. Pray for the Oline. If they hold up Packers by 6 is my prediction. If they let that front 7 beast by them, it could be a long night.

Pete will just pray for replacement refs and a Fail Mary to win this one. Packer 34 SeaBags 17

The one guy is talking about Boone and the Seahawks should kick his tires and then the thread gets a dose of heavy hands by a mode and a great follow up by the OP.....sure glad I am not a SeaHawks fans ;)

He is a great poster and I enjoy reading about his thoughts. The post was started in the main forum and was moved to the everyone but Seahawk forum et al NFL Forum. I was thinking about busting on him too..but decided not to. I am not a hall monitor. LMAO

I may have missed the whole thread intent, but it seemed like it was titled "Possible OL Pickups".......well if a guy is going to get his chops busted over bringing up Boone, who was a FA.......what do you talk about without crossing the line? The Seahawks current ball boy?

I wouldn't last an hour with that kind of rigid structure........Thanks Mods! Your checks and alcohol are in the mail! :whistling:

at this stage of the off-season, ie JUST before the games start, I doubt we get anyone we would consider an upgrade over Spriggs/Murphy for any less. Two months ago when there was still a lot of camp competition, sure, but not now when teams essentially have their depth set.

Criteria....are they on the SEahawks team? No? NFL forum. Are they on the Seahawks team yes? ok here is fine. Are they on another team now and you want them on our team? yes still nfl forum. Easier to work with each forum as its own unit within guidelines. It keeps things less muddy as they look at different teams and different players. We have many fans from a lot of teams come there and to see what we have on them, they know to go to that NFL forum to find out what we think. Very easy rather than having to jump all over the place and start a new thread every 2 mins and waste time of the moderators to delete or move it to appropriate locations. If we are playing that team this week, main forum is ok..but starting on Monday...the next opponent is allowed on that main forum and the previous will fade into the bottom of page one probably to be never seen again.

The Packers were able to sign Brooks and Dial without giving up a draft pick at all. That might work bringing in an offensive lineman as well but as mentioned before I don't believe a decent veteran is fond of sitting on the bench.

I get what you are both saying, but does that make Brooks and Dial chopped liver? Or are you both saying, it is hard to find quality depth on just the OL at the juncture of the season?
