I don't like the idea of making any decisions on trading up or down from #14 today. That should be dictated by how the draft board unfolds on draft day in relation to our own.

I don't understand the reasoning behind trading a starter at a position of need for a quarterback who hopefully won't play any meaningful snaps either.

I think its a smart play. The kid is only 20 years old and has 13-14 career starts already. Big, good arm, and coach-able. He could sit for the next three years (rookie deal), glean from a GOAT, and at the very least serve as a trade asset. Gute hedges GB against any significant drop-off from AR12, and possibly secured a legitimate No. 2 in place of Hundley. Trading away a CB that lost support of the head coach, grabbed a young QB, and acquired top selections in the middle rounds (roster depth)...that's a good move.

Uh, not 'forecasting myself into a frenzy.' I'm totally willing to wait and see what else BG has in store, I'm years away from trying to fully judge him as a GM.

Just pointing out that Kizer is most likely not our QB of the future and don't really care for this trade, an opinion which I am perfectly entitled to.
I never said you weren't entitled to your opinion. Unlike half this country and just about every college campus, I think disagreement can be a good thing. If banter is courteous and civil, much good can come from it. On this very site I've had many back and forths with guys like WIMM and sometimes came out of the those clashes with a new perspective. I respect your feelings bro, hopefully we're both happy by the time the final roster is constructed. G P G!

I think its funny how, to some people, Randall is now a starting cornerback. That's hilarious. Probably the same people that have been bagging on him for years. Terrible pick by TT to take a Safety in the 1st to play CB! Remember?!

He's not a guy the new DC wanted to have to rely on, because he's a freaking head-case. He's hasn't been durable either. He has talent, but good riddance.

The more I think about this the more I like it, we get rid if a guy whose presence was becoming problematic (and perhaps limited) and pick up a young talent to work with.... and move up 14 spots in two mid rounds of the draft...

Seems like we got pretty good value... is Kizer our answer at #2? Who knows.... Hundley clearly is not. Was Randall ready to become a fixture at CB in Green Bay?.... didn’t appear that way to me.

When you have no other choice it's easy to rationalize:D:D

Just busting your chops AKC. It's a simple way to look at it but perhaps it's the best way to look at it. We know, or at least I think we know, that Gute isn't done with the CB position. So he made it a little weaker before he makes it stronger and in the meantime he strengthens us in a few other areas. The key for me was you last sentence. If Randall was not going to be in the Packers future plans then why keep him.

That is a very key point, get something for him while you still can. I consider Kizer and the 2 move ups in the draft more valuable than the compensatory pick we may have received in 2020 for Randall.

Should have done the same thing with Datone Jones and a few other players over the years. Trade them before their contract year. Of course, sometimes that takes a crystal ball that nobody has, but I think in the case of Randall, the Packers had seen and had enough of him to know 2018 would have been his last year in Green Bay.

It's all fun and games until the yearly injury bug takes its toll on the secondary and were watching 5th round rookies and UDFA's trying to stop a playoff team. I never really liked Randall and thought he was more of an inside guy but Gute has his work cut out for him on this secondary.

This has been mentioned before but I like the signal it sends, we don't put up with the attitude that promotes a locker-room cancer and this isn't the first example and probably not the last of a solid player being released. I respect McCarthy or Pettine or whoever else had a say in that conclusion.
Also we are forced to address the CB position with some veteran help and we don't have to spend 5M (or whatever) on a backup QB or necessarily are we forced to draft one. We can focus on other positions of need (I'm sorry but Joe Callahan was not our answer)

It really depends on the talent available, if there isn't anyone at 14 who does it for the FO then trading back is the right call. We need an edge rusher but Davenport looks like a project and Chubb would take too much to get if even possible. At CB Josh Jackson looks like he'd be overvalued at 14, the other projected talent there is on the Offensive line and we really don't need anyone that high.

What again ****** me off about this trade is that we're looking at having to stack early selections on defense again. Atleast two of our top 3 picks will have to be on defense again. This is a long term trend that has left our offense devoid of playmakers.

It seems that Randall ran afoul of Coaching given his recent remarks at the end of last season... well was he wrong? Sure him being sat and punished seemed to put his head on straight, but what about HHCD? His constant freelancing led to quite a few defensive breakdowns, was he ever sat for any period? Apparently mistake prone but with a winning personality is all one needs in this franchise.

HHCD called for more veteran depth, Randall called for players to be held accountable(cough Haha cough) which remark was worse?

As bad as Hundley was last year, I'm not so sure Kizer is an upgrade, just yet. Depending on how far they can bring him along between now and September, I don't think he is as solid of a #2 as I would like. The good news is that he just turned 22 and should have a bigger upside then Hundley.

think you are probably over analyzing it. randall honestly isnt that good and you have to believe there are moves coming down the line that secure our cb core whether be it draft/fa/trade. kizer offers a more controllable salary than hundley while also having probably more upside. hopefully he doesnt matter all that much anyways. we increase the value of our picks as well in case we need to trade up somewhere. all positive starting points to the offseason.
I agree we needed change our defense sucks beside Clark Daniels and Martinez I hope the real josh jones was against the bengals and we see more of that but everybody else sucks we have sucked for a while on defense it’s time to start changing just cuz he was a starter he is still garbage we got a little more ammo in the draft and Kizer was a rookie it was a good trade if u ask me

The problem with this draft is if the run on QB's doesn't happen... the defensive players that we want/need will be gone. We are hoping that 4 QB's (3 for sure), Barkley, Nelson, Connor Williams, and hopefully Ridley go in the first 13 picks which then includes Chubb, Fitzpatrick... which then has 4 spots remaining for our pick between Smith, Ward, Edmunds, Vea, and James. We would be guaranteed to walk away with one of the better defensive players... but say only 1-2 QBs, Williams, and Ridley dont go top 13 and those defensive players mentioned as our possible picks will be gone as well... which leaves us with the wrong people for our team to be at the top of the draft board and leads us towards trading back into the second level of defensive prospects or reaching on our pick.

If that happens it happens and we trade back. If only 2 QBs go that means there are 2 left for anyone behind us needing a QB to move up. I'm not completely opposed to trading back I just really want to see if we can land that special player for once in a draft. Something that hasn't happened in a while drafting in the mid to late 20s. If we can land any of the 5 remaining players you mentioned I think it will be a good pick and I do think the run on QBs will happen. I won't worry about who we are going to pick until it comes time to make the selection but I can get excited about the prospect.

In our present position we need atleast one FA pickup at corner, Johnson's an obvious pick but despite his strengths he has limited speed... he needs an assignment sure safety over the top. The Johnson Dix combo could turn into a sieve.

Derwin James could fill that void @ 14.

Absolutely especially if Burnett is gone which is likely.. and dix honestly kinda blows he was known for a hard hitter in college and it looks like he avoids contact now.. hopefully he turns out

It would be cool to see GB emulate the old Seahawks single high safety scheme. James patrolling up top, Dix in the box, and corners either playing man, zone, or both.

James is a freak but he is most definitely not Earl Thomas, nor is he best served playing single high.
