Last year's wk. 1 match-up Vs. CHI saw Rodgers get hurt on a sack that came via a stunt right up the middle of the offensive line. Hopefully Billy Turner's presence will help solidify that situation. The Packers also got a grand total of 75 yards from scrimmage on 19 touches from Jamaal Williams and Ty Montgomery. With Aaron Jones playing this time around, hopefully that changes too.

Also, the Packers benefitted greatly from kicking up the tempo in the 2nd half to negate their pass rush. A combination of picking the tempo up and Rodgers getting the ball out quicker proved to be quite effective, even with a compromised version of Rodgers.

I'd like to see a similar approach in this one.

Over/Under is 46-1/2 so you're correct, it'll take at least 24. I'm guessing it'll be 27-24, just hope AR can get rid of the ball relatively quickly and doesn't take 3+ sacks ~ drive killers.
Yes, sounds about right. Might even be a tad lower.. 24-21 I’ve been pleading my case of getting the RBs more involved in the short passing game. This churns the clock.
That was a component of our past success that I saw diminish in recent years. It’s more of a be patient...move the chains .. philosophy and not trying to get the big chunk plays (until the game settles in).

It’s always tough on the road, but Rodgers historically comes up big in big games. This would be an ideal time for him to shine.

I agree with the guy above me saying this feels like a pre-season game. I trust Rodgers in the clutch more than Mitch. That's why i want it close at the end. I do not think our offense is good enough (YET) to be in a shootout OR to take a commanding lead in week 1 @ CHI with a new coach, new system, and young receiving core. I will say this out of all possibilities, win, lose, or draw; I would be MOST shocked if we were able to get and hold a 2 score lead throughout the game. To me that is the least likely thing that will happen. This offense was a disgrace last season. They have lost my trust. Not my faith in them, but definitely my trust. I hope this season looks different
For the offense, and after last year, this new year in a new scheme will be “trust, but verify.” In other words, I’ll believe this is a really good O when I see it. I have more trust in the D at this point.

defenses usually perform better than offenses early in the season. They have a great defense with a new coordinator, learning curve? We historically have had very good offenses, with new HC and coordinator, learning curve? We are in year 2 of the defense, but lots of new faces, faces that I think are a lot better than what we had, but will that be evident week 1 or week 5? I'm still favoring the Pack, shocker, even when so much is in favor of the Bears. I don't really believe in the Bears

I don't doubt the Bears. I think they're not only very good, but still ascending.
My biggest doubts in this game are with our guys. New guys, new system. I believe we're going to be very good too, it's just how soon does it all come together? Good enough in week one ,better in week 5?
Discombobulated in week 1 better later? We'll see soon enough.

It’s tough to gauge how we match up after all these changes. There’s lots of variables. We should have a good grip on the direction of things after 3 games.

Don’t get me wrong. I don’t discount the Bears being formidable again this year. I just don’t think they are ascending. I think they slightly regressed. 10-6/11-5 type season and nothing to be ashamed of. It only makes us better having stiff competition like them in our group. They have always been known as a solid Defensive group. If we can move the chains to any success against this D, were going to only get better. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, certainly improves resilience.

How about having Vitale send some early messages, blowing up Khalil Mack a few times to start the game, and then keep nailing him? I could dig some of that. Would love to see Danny give him some big 'ol de-cleaters...

I do think LaFleur is going to build in a lot of protections to insure what happened last year doesn't happen again. I wouldn't mind seeing them go with a heavy package, keeping an extra OL to whatever side he's on. Some U-71 schwerve, and a heavy f'ing dose of it.

As for the running. game, Oldschool101, I'm going to love it if they stick with it. A lot of times it is 3 yds and a pile of dust to start, but, gotta have the stones & confidence to keep plowing, wearing their front seven out in heavy doses, and then it all opens up. I'll be patiently watching the Packers running game develop, and you just know it will open up so much more for Rodgers in the passing game.

Agree with your last too. This will be a huge statement game.

I'm all for Vitale playing, but I highly doubt we will see Khalil Mack de-cleated at any point.

Luckily, it won't all hang on Aaron's shoulders. Our D will be giving CHI fits all night. I just know it. My feelings on it anyway.

Dantes, a man can dream...!!!! Ha. Would love to see it.

One never knows. I recall Maurice Jones-Drew absolutely knocking out Shawn Merriman once upon a time... though Merriman was more bravado and less substance than a Khalil Mack.

Last year I saw Khalil Mack rag doll our lineman, pick up Kizer with one hand by his helmet, take the football, Looney Toons throw Kizer to the ground, and skip into the endzone. It was one of the few times I was in honest fear for my teams (backup QBs) physical well being.

Bare in mind the dude was traded and was extremely motivated to prove a point to the raiders. We've faced Mack plenty of times in the past and overcame him. Mack is a beast, but he it's not like we haven't faced beasts of his caliber before and got the better of them. Mack may get a few sacks, but I doubt he'll be as hellish as he was last year now that we have a better idea what we're up against.

I don't remember it quite that way, more like Kizer ran right into him despite Bulaga having good position. Kizer never went down either, I think Mack slid off him, but the ball came out at the end.

Well as excited as I am for the start of the season and potentially beating the Bears, I'll probably have to miss the game due to hurricane Dorian headed our way and probable power outages. I am optimistic that the defense can handle the Bears offense and I think we can score on their defense. GO PACK!!

A few sacks is 3 or more. I sure as hell hope he doesn’t get that many sacks. That’s a hell of a game for anyone.

He did look all-world against us that day.... I had just spent all week talking a massive pile of ****. And then had to eat it after that game. Lol. Awwwww ****.....

Id say its time for redemption....
Wasn't Bulaga coming off an acl that game too? He seemed to stiffen up second half, minus a play or two... If I remember right. I seen a close up of the battle between those two on one play. Reminded me of two grizzleys fighting.... Bulaga is a brute too when healthy.

I'm picking the under, as both defenses are better than the offenses. We are likely going to struggle and I expect us to run, run, run and punt a few times before finding some seams. I'm excited to see our DBs work against Trubisky but we need to contain their running game. I see something like a 17-15 win with the field goal kickers on display.

You may be right ElGuapo. I’m in the 23-21 range. Sooner or later MVS or Davante get free.

They are begging people to take the Bears... kind of interesting.
Getting equal dollar amounts wagered on both sides of a betting proposition is sports book nirvanna. In that case winning and losing bets are equal and the book collects their 10% vigorish on winning wagers. The operating principle isn't much different than that of Wall Street market makers. Consequently, the book will move its line (or not) during the week to reach an end point as close to balanced bets as can be managed.

The opening line is the product of the sports book's analysis of what spread will draw equal numbers of bets, not necessarily an opinion on the margin of victory. The final line expresses the "wisdom of crowds". For whatever reason, the crowd does not want to accord the Bears more than the home field advantage edge.

The first Vegas opening line was Bears -3 1/2:

http://www.vegasinsider.com/nfl/odds/las-vegas/

The line moving to -3 is not exactly begging for Bears wagers, more a minor adjustment.

If overcoming the 10% vig is a mugs game without a backtested algorithm as a baseline, it is especially so on opening day where there is no data yet on the current versions of the the teams.

Honestly I don't even know if Mack is my biggest concern. My concern comes from when they feel they need to throw a few bodies at Mack and it leaves room for Hicks, or Smith, or Floyd, or Trevathan to slip in. What poison do they pick? That is what I worry about.

And to piggy back on the motivation Mack had by the trade...that type of motivation is hard to duplicate, but after what happened last year, first game at home...there's a motivation there too.

Part of me is excited to see the 'new' team work tonight, but the other part of me really wishes this was week 3 to kind of have an idea of what we are in store for. I am cautiously optimistic. I think the Adams/Rodgers connection is going to open up GMo tonight. I think GMo takes Cobb's place tonight against the Bears.
