You're right, absolutely right. TT is a flippin' moron. Everyone on earth could see that after being one of the best offenses year after year and leading the entire league in offense again just last year, that THIS year, despite returning all 11 starters, it need to be completely dismantled and retooled because obviously there is nobody on this team capable of playing in the NFL. Everybody, including you. LOL
And it takes a flipping moron to be okay with them just putting up most of those huge numbers against the average teams in the league, and being unable to produce at the same level against the good teams in the playoffs.

And the Patriots also went a decade in between winning this SBs.

Was is it just not working then or is it just tough to win a SB?

They did, however, get to two more, and only two once-in-a-lifetime catches by Giants receivers kept them from winning 6 in 14 years.

I understand it is a team game and I am not denying TT has put together some talent via the draft and develop model, however, AR has the ability to hide deficiencies and the lack of depth on this roster. If you need an example, I give you this year.

IMO Rodgers is the best QB in the league, but after the Packers went 4-6 to finish the regular season, I'm not sure how good a job he did "hiding deficiencies and the lack of depth".

Exactly. My example was that he did not do that this year and it showed just how deficient the Packers are.

and I give you, that anytime you take an all pro QB and have him missing targets that he usually hits, he'll add his own set of deficiencies to the team. Couple that with some receivers that are not catching like they normally do, some injuries to the pass catchers, going 2,3,4 deep in the OLine depth and a constant rotation, plus a spell of fumbling issues and some injuries to the starting RB's, everything looks much worse than it is.

and with all that, here we are in round 2 of the playoffs

Aside of injuries (and the Packers were by far not the team hit the hardest this season) you only mentioned deficiences related to a lack of talent, which falls on Thompson.

Of course that's how you'd see it. yet here we are in round 2. Facing probably the most balanced team left in the playoffs, but here we are none the less. Obvious lack of talent on this team. Obvious. LOL

It's really hard to understand that any fan who has followed the Packers would argue there aren't any shortcomings on this year's team. But by now I'm used to some posters not capable of taking an realistic approach when it comes to evaluating Thompson.

TT needs to go. Getting to the playoffs every year isn't good enough anymore when you have a once in a lifetime QB. You can’t teach an old dog new tricks because he’s too stubborn to use free agency and trades. New England is a prime example of a team who utilizes the draft and free agency as well as trades. They understand they have a once in a lifetime QB and they try to improve the team around him constantly. (Rodgers is only getting older) For instance, signing Revis, Amendola, Talib, Jabaal Sheard or Trading for Akeem Ayers, Randy Moss, Chad Ochocinco, Albert Haynesworth. Some of these moves may have been busts, but who cares if it was for a late round pick, which rarely pans out. Half the time the team finds better undrafted players than the late picks anyways. TT values 5th, 6th, and 7th round picks way too much and it causes the Pack to miss out on talented players who can contribute when it counts most in the playoffs. At one point in time, TT could have had Lynch for a 3rd round pick from the Bills…. a 3rd pick. Instead he wastes those picks on players like Khyri Thornton… Are u kidding me? And don’t give me that crap that it will hurt the cap to do that when the Packers have more than enough cap space. Don’t get me wrong, I think the draft and develop philosophy is great, but free agent pick ups and trades need to happen occasionally because not all picks pan out (i.e. Harrell, Carrol, Thronton, Worthy, Alex Green, Datone Jones, Davante Adams, Carl Bradford)….I think John Schneider needs to come home to Green Bay… that rumor about a clause in his contract to come to GB if the GM spot is open could be true. He is much more like Ron Wolf who wasn't afraid to make a move to get a few big name free agents or players in a trade and look what it did for the Pack then! Out with the old, in with the new I say! Go Pack! Beat the Cardinals!

I was in favor of him leaving years ago. Not that he has not been fiscally responsible. But in this sport, unlike the other 3 major ones, you only play 16 games. Getting into the post season has a tighter margin for error. You cannot have a horrible first half and rally to just get in. You can actually do that in baseball, basketball, and hockey. Failure to go get that one player can prove fatal. And he just rarely ever did that. Being conservative is one thing but you just cannot home grow everything.
His worst move ( and he admitted it later ) was his failure to sign EITHER of Marco Rivera or Mike Wahle in 2005. Instead of drafting a top guard or trading to get one, he fills the holes with William Whitaker and Adrian Klemm, two of the biggest, cheapest stiffs that ever donned a Packer uniform. This not only put his HOF QB under duress all year but it resulted in serious season ending injuries to Ahman Green and Najeh Davenport. The team was not going to win a SB but they lost a lot of close games which still could have meant a playoff spot. In 2003 and 2004 our rushing attack was the best in football. And he destroyed it. No wonder Favre wanted to get back at him.

So how has TT failed at getting the Packers into the Playoffs? If, this is how you are measuring his success?

of course there's shortcomings. I can find them on every single team left in the playoffs. I can also see where some had much, much different scenarios getting to where they are now too. Like sucking and getting high draft picks. Getting an all pro QB in the 3rd round on a rookie contract. I can also see how their jobs are going to get a lot tougher to maintain a high level of success that OUR GM has ALREADY done. Good luck to them.

It seems people want to hold Thompson to the standard of perfection and if he's not there, he probably needs to go, when the rest of the league is nowhere close save for a child's sized handful of teams over his tenure here. there's 1 QB left in the playoffs performing worse than our qb is this year. 1, so it would appear the rest of the team has some talent too.

Why, because we went 4-6 and beat Washington?

I exaggerate because I know the team has talent, but the point is he doesn't even attempt to entertain FA to put this team where it needs to be.

My opinion will not be popular but here goes. TT is thought of in the light he is because AR fell (yes fell) into his lap. AR has made both TT and MM and because they beat Washington, they will again get a pass for fielding a $@)& team with poor coaching/play calling and an all star QB.

Again, my opinion.

There isn't anyone demanding perfection from Thompson. I have a hard time supporting a general manager believing he's that much better drafting players than every other franchise, and because of it mostly ignoring all other ways available to upgrade the roster, something being frequently used by 31 out of the 32 teams.

4-6? Pretty sure we didn't go 4-6 this year and yeah, we beat Washington. Arguably the "worst" playoff team and also arguably one of the "hottest" at the time we beat them too. Argue about whether or not we should have won the last one, I don't care. I've already enjoyed the game, and the victory, and am looking forward to a tough match up tomorrow.

But the playoffs are easy, it's why every team makes it every year like we do

and yet here he sits, better than almost all of them, and there's a tiny handful that could be argued have accomplished more since he's been here. But you're probably right, he should have signed that linebacker that never played a down for anyone in the NFL this year AND traded for Davis, Our woes would be over.

Every time somebody mentions their consecutive playoff appearances, they should include "with the best QB in he league", as well as their record in the playoffs, and the whole thing seems much less impressive and commendable.

Do you have a link for that?

What did Rivera get in free agency? Why would he need to "sign ... Wahle" when he was already under contract?

Just like selecting draft picks, signing free agents and acquiring players via trades doesn't always work out but not using it at all GUARANTEES the team won't be improved.

You realize we lost six of the last 10 regular season games, don't you???
oh, so we only count certain games, you do realize that with players Ted drafted we went 6-0 to start too right? or were those all traded and FA players that got those wins?

and this team is loads better than they were when Ted took over, I wonder how that happened? Even got a superbowl win, weird for a guy that doesn't know how to build a team

Thompson inherited a team in cap trouble but taking a look at Packers roster in 2004 I don't agree overall the current squad is loads better than it was 11 years ago.

You're right again, the team was in such great shape, from the front office to the staff, they decided to just keep going with what they had, LOL It's too bad we couldn't be aged, declining, hanging on by a thread and with no money to spend again, LOL I gotta hand it to you, you're good. Really good. Ignore the point right in your face, and find the angle you can "win" at.

i'm going back to the old way, it was better. later

Nobody is saying he should be perfect, but people do want him gone for not being as good as the one of the team runs in NFL history.
