Rodgers mechanics have suffered noticeably. That's the first place you go to figure out a decline in accuracy.
So him getting sacked more than any other QB in the league during that stint plays no part in it? He looked like the reigning MVP at the beginning of the year. Wilson looked like poo when he was the most sacked QB, with like 7 TDs to 5 INT after like 6 games. Look how much better he and every QB plays with protection.

IMO you are far out on the ‘Thompson is an ego maniac’ limb pretty much by yourself. And again IMO anyone who agrees with that doesn’t care about evidence or common sense – like you. Time to put me on ignore? I’m trying to think of something more insignificant. …. …. Nope, can’t think of anything. The poster I was responding to, and a few others on the board post as if they don’t believe Rodgers deserves some of the blame – that was my point.

Did Rodgers play on an elite level in the NFCCG last season? He completed about 56% of his passes with 1 TD and 2 INTs for a passer rating of 55.8. That’s hardly elite, right? Yet they should have won that game and IMO only those with a preconceived bias against Thompson attribute that loss to him. Without the fake FG, Burnett “downing” the INT, the absolute brain freeze on the onside kick (that was the fault of one player who had been coached multiple times on what to do and reminded of that by a teammate right before the play) they win.
Let's ignore that Seattle's secondary owns our receivers, Rodgers was limping, and Cobb and a missed call by the ref are responsible for the 2 INTs. And that he took them down the field to tie the game at the end when the defense and ST imploded.

Rodgers for sure struggled at times this season but it seems like you forgot that he won the MVP award last season and although he had a below average performance in the NFCCG, playing on w bad calf, it was Wilson who had a terrible game throwing four picks.

It wasb't me suggesting to be fine with the Packers being better than most teams as I think that every season not winning the Super Bowl while having the best QB in the league should be considered a disappointment. While I get it's impossible to win the Lombardi Trophy every single season doing it once in most likely 11 years with two future HOF QBs doesn't cut it for me.

Actually I'm indecisive about whether Thompson should be let go. There's no denying that he has mostly done a good job drafting but on the other hand his reluctancy to use all methods available to improve the team has probably cost the Packers another ring or two during his tenure.
By my eye, Rodgers was a better QB in 2012 and 2013 than 2014 and 2015. He was able to throw his WRs open in such a way DBs were at a significant disadvantage when coupled with his lifhtning fast delivery. I don't see that anymore.

I'm not disagreeing with you, TJV; especially on TT.
Here's some of the points for me in regards to our lightning rod GM. Basically for anyone here, especially the most vehement TT supporters.
-I'll point to McGinn's article last week. The guy has brought in what, a dozen or so 2nd/3rd tier minor free agents in 11 years? Eleven years. We went 3 years where the only signing was...Frank Walker.Even his 2 big name guys- Woodson and Peppers- were not obtained in bidding wars from the first second of free agency.
- If it were TT instead of Wolf hired to run the team in '92, do you think we'd have won a SB and went to two? That run and title depended on getting Favre and White; both, not either or, or there'd be no title. Who honestly believes TT would trade a first rounder for a guy who was a second round pick the year before, a bench warmer regarded as more likely to party himself out of the league than end up one of it's all time greats. Or get in a bidding war with the big boys for the services of a 30 year old DE? Judging by his time here, my money would go all in on 'no freaking way'.
- Forget the names "TT' or "Packers". If in any job/profession I told you that someone had 3 main tools to use to maximize their performance/product, but basically only utilized 1, what would you call that?
How about "negligence"? In the real world, you get fired for that.
- I'm thinking the guy has peaked or whatever word you want to use. He can't or won't dare to go for the 'get over the hump' move. Oh, if you're an aging team in need of a roster makeover and someone to fix your cap because it's a mess, he's your guy. But where's the bold and daring "Hey, we need one more ingredient here, one trade or signing that would put us over the top" type of move. Schneider, Dorsey, McLoughan and others are like that, Wolf was. And yes, because of that, I'd rather have any of them then TT.
-B-b-but 2010!! That's nice, but it gets further in the rear view mirror every year. What happened before or since? Take '07. Nice run, but a fluke. TT's answer- stand pat, and come back with pretty much the same roster minus Favre. Last year, oooh thisclose. Outside of the draft, do nothing. How's that working out. Why does it take 2-3 years to do anything about positions of weakness? I don't believe 201o was a fluke; I don't think it's possible for winning a title to be a fluke. But that team basically captured lightning in a bottle for six weeks, needed help just to get in the playoffs, and had to hang on for dear life at the end of 3 of 4 games after blowing big early leads.
-To continue from above. If I told you- again, without the word "Packers" inserted- that nearly 1/3 of a team's roster was comprised of undrafted free agents, would your first thought be "that's a SB contender", or "that's a team in rebuild mode?" You've got Mr. All Universe and his ginormous financial commitment at QB, and you put a bunch of mid round picks, undrafted free agents and projects in front of him? Coach 'em up only goes so far.
- Ah, and now my favorite TT line of defense. "We're more successful than most of the rest of the teams in the league" or variations of that theme. I don't give a flying **** about other teams. What's the point? We're more successful at being unsuccessful than anyone else? We're better at not achieving the ultimate goal than everybody else? And make no mistake gang; the SB is the ultimate goal. Maybe if TT wasn't so risk averse there'd be one or two more Lombardi's at 1265 over the last decade.
-I've said before, no team or fan base talks about SB's more than this one. There's been one title in the last 19 years, 2 in the last 47. Do those of us who point to that have expectations that are too high? I don't believe so. Those expectations have been put there by TT, MM and the organization as a whole. I don't think it's being 'spoiled' to think we should have more than 2 titles in 47 years. For those of you happy with being 'in the mix' every year, good for you. I think we got sold a bill of goods this year.
- It's easier and easier to get the perception that double digit wins , make the playoffs and win the division are good enough in Green Bay if not goal #1. Except this year, we didn't win the division and barely got double digit wins. We've been passed up now by the Cards , Panthers, Seahawks and Vikings. Who next year, the Lions? Because if this off season is more of the same business as usual followed by the same platitudes, then I won't be surprised if double digit wins and making the playoffs join division champions in the crossed off the list section.

To sum up, am I a TT hater? No. Do I think he's a good GM? Yes, overall I think he's done a fine job. But are we true top tier SB contenders or just frauds and also rans? But to stand pat is to fall behind, and if TT refuses to step out of his comfort zone and do everything and and anything to get this team over the hump to a title, then we'll continue deeper into being pretenders, not contenders, and also rans.
And if that's how things are to be done, and enough people are happy with that, then maybe that sign leading into Green Bay saying "Titletown USA" should be changed to "Good Enough Town USA".

So do you have a link or not? Apparently you don’t know the situation with Wahle’s contract in 2005. Wahle’s contract called for a $6M roster bonus and a $5M salary in 2005: An $11M cap hit for a team already over the cap for an OG. It was a “poison pill” in the 2001 contract he signed that meant the Packers, Wahle, and his agent all knew that contract would not be in force in 2005. The blame goes to either Wolf (who would leave about a month after this 2001 deal) or Sherman for this balloon payment. They put Thompson in a position to either renegotiate the deal guaranteeing more than $11M to an OG on a team already over the cap and in need of a roster makeover, or waiving him. Rivera got a deal from Dallas Thompson would have been nuts to match. The signing bonuses for Wahle and Rivera in 2005 combined were $19M. (BTW, since you favor using hindsight, Rivera was out of the league in 2007 because of injury.)

Thompson was “forced to sign Rodgers and forget the rest of the roster”? Really? Of course Thompson wasn’t forced to DRAFT Rodgers, he had been passed over by 20-some teams in the first round of that draft. He had no idea in preparing for that draft that Rodgers would fall to pick #24. And do you know the terms of Rodgers’ rookie contract? His signing bonus was less than 30% of Wahle’s and Rivera’s. He no doubt got a better rookie contract than a player playing a different position at #24 in that draft, but not that much better. But to say signing their first round pick forced Thompson to forget about the rest of the roster is ridiculous. Perhaps the Packers should have passed in the first round of the 2005 draft in order to re-sign one of their OGs?

According to you, letting two OGs go and drafting Rodgers was a “major blunder”. Let that idea sink in: According to you, drafting Rodgers was a major blunder. Why in the world would a Packers fan post such a thing? Aint hindsight great?! BTW, since you sing the praises of Wolf in another post, how many Super Bowls did he win? Do you have some hindsight suggestions for him, too?

Even if he does not sign either Wahle or Rivera he could have drafted a top guard rather easily. Do you realize the impact of putting those two slugs on the O-line? That's like protecting Favre with a high school kid. They made no effort to restructure at all. If Favre did not continue to leave the rumor mills open and say he'd be back after the 2004 season quickly TT probably does not have to draft a 1st round QB until 2006 or 2007. It's amazing that after letting our backfield get destroyed TT brings in Samkon Gado, an NFL Europe player, to finish off the season. And so the 2005 demise is blamed solely on Sherman.

So you are saying TT is a terrible GM because he failed in 2005, 2006 and 2008, failed to make the playoffs. So I assume you feel he took over a playoff caliber team in 2005 and thus the Packers should have immediately been a contender? If you recall, Mike Sherman was relieved of the GM job in 2005 and TT was brought in to try and fix the mess Sherman had made. Mike Sherman was then fired as head coach after the 2005 season due to what most people felt was not only poor coaching, but questionable decisions as a GM. So to blame 2005 and 2006 on TT is way off base. 2008 was the year that AR took over as QB and the Packers struggled with their new starting QB.

Your other comment: "Great GMs make moves in every sport. They don't just stand pat, ALL the time".
How has TT stood pat ALL the time?

http://espn.go.com/blog/green-bay-p...kers-free-agent-history-under-gm-ted-thompson

Maybe TT hasn't made as many free agent moves as some GM's have, but making more doesn't actually guarantee success. I am sure that for every GM you tell me made "brilliant FA signings" I can give you the names of 2 that made signings that were not so brilliant. Also, keep in mind that FA signings are not just about signing other teams FA's, its also about signing your own. Something I feel TT has done well.

Sure, we all want to win Super Bowls every year, but so do the other 31 other teams in the NFL. How would you grade TT in comparison to the jobs that the other 40+ GM's have done since TT took over the Packers?

I'll even choose another sport in which the GM made some common sense moves rather than just stand pat like a TT. Just this year the KC Royals signed Ben Zobrist and Johnny Cueto at the trade deadline. And what was the result. Without those two players the Royals do not win a World Series in 2015. Kudos to a great GM. If Ted Thompson were the GM of the KC Royals they stand pat and are eliminated in the first series. Both players are somewhere else in 2016 but they were key cogs that directly contributed to a team winning a world championship THIS year. TT is still living in the 1960's. He thinks he can grow his own players and they'll be Packers forever. Man, ya gotta make a few moves now and then , TT. Another player Wolf grabbed was Keith Jackson. He was only with us for about 25 games but he was essential to our SB season.

We are down to 3 Wrs for this game because TT made another dumb decision by not bringing up another but a freaking Db instead . Thank God it's not a shootout....

Just took possible the best team in the league to OT on the road WITHOUT their top four receivers starting the year. (I'm assuming Ty would have been in the top 4). Does any team in the league win in Arizona without that? I don't see NE winning there without Gronk, Edelman, and Admendola.

The Packers just put a very good team on the field. They are also young, have a rising defense, lots of cap room, and are getting back Jordy.

No drastic changes like getting rid of the GM should be made.

The defense folds at the worst possible time. Again. Rodgers proves he is not human, but MM decides to kick the extra point knowing his defense will blow it, and they do. McCarthy should be gone, Capers should be gone, and as the guy deciding they were worth keeping around, TT, should be gone.

We take the best team in the league to OT in the playoffs so let's fire everyone and start over.

That's just ridiculous.

It is not enough to win, you have to have a team that is built to win every week and the Packers from 2011 to now isn't built to win the games that matter. Until the idea that all our future is ONLY in the draft and your first idea after yet another playoff loss is, "We'll fix it in the draft" then according to Lombardi you're accepting that losing is ok because now you can fix what needs to be fixed.

I'm not being negative i'm being attached to reality,

Comparing TT to a GM in a completely different sport doesn't make sense at all.

And in the MLB trades are much more common, bad teams try to trade way their good guys every year, and teams have a giant farm system of guys to use in trades.

Trades in the NFL and trades in the MLB are not comparable.

I'm not a fan of any of these three guys (they are overrated) but I think MM coached a good game and our defense had played well tonight for much of the game. The trouble started when DC switched to zone and backed the pressure off in the second half. I would love to hear an explanation as to why. Pressure on Palmer was obviously the key to winning. He didn't learn a thing from last year's playoff loss. But he will be back. Another year of Rodgers' career wasted. Very sad and frustrating. As for TT, the rigidness of his philosophy is what will continue to leave us a quality player or two short unless he flat out hits the jackpot, but I wouldn't hold my breath on that.

Those that are comparing Rodgers and Brett careers being wasted

Some want TT to be like Wolf..

You put Wolf so high up and with his philosophy, yet they were a fart in the wind according to him.

Brett only won 1 SB with Wolf and after that 1998 season never sniffed it again until TT came back.. But Brett threw int vs the Giants

They one thing Wolf has on TT is, he went to two SB... One could say, they should have been in last year's.. But blame the coaches and pure bad luck.

Point is even with the almighty Wolf, Brett won just 1.

So my guess it is extremely hard to get back there no matter how you do it.

Wolf at least made an effort. Many criticize Jerry Jones. But at least the man tries.
Don't get me wrong about TT. He is a financial wizard. I said years ago I wish he would have ran for president instead of GM. With his philosophy this country never would have had a $19 trillion debt or for that matter $5 trillion. But football is different. It is a profitable business unlike government. Sometimes you have to make a move. Sometimes you have to make several moves. If you don't someone else will and you'll be left with a lot of what ifs.

You certainly can compare other professional sports because all of them are about winning championships. Wolf's pick up of guys like Andre Rison and Keith Jackson midstream were good examples. There are players out there. Even Jerry Jones grabbed Dion Sanders when he already had a powerhouse team. In fact baseball makes the opportunity even more challenging because it only has a phony salary cap unlike football which has a true one. There are about 8 teams in MLB which monopolize this year after year because they are allowed to use an unlimited bank account. Even in the NFL failed franchises like Jacksonville have just as much a shot at signing players as any one else if they want to push the button.

I was TT to grab someone to help... Trust me..

But it is odd that two different styles results in almost identical records..

It's very hard to get to the SB

Long time lurker, my God you nailed it, just good enough. 2010 was a fluke, lets accept that. Honestly our game plans are so vanilla it hurts, the type that require super studs to make work. Having second tier talent running high school plays on both sides of the ball doesn't work. We have the slowest scoring players in the league. Lets also admit we have 2nd tier coaches. What happens to our coaches that leave? Failure, all riding great QB's to false resumes.

Never seem to have players in the right positions or understand crucial game situations. Too many times we look lost. No wonder the Pats are always there, they seem to understand the game situation. On Fitz long run, entire Dline collapses inside, no one stayed in their lane. How do you let one of the best receivers in history be completely ignored? We have now pretty much wasted 2 QB's other teams would have traded their soul for. I have come to the conclusion it's all about selling jerseys and Tee shirts. Not truly trying to win SB's. The constant thinking we can make 5th round picks play like 1st round picks is never going to work. To finish my rant QUIT DRAFTING BIG TEN PLAYERS. Easiest way to bet, take the team with the least amount of Big 10 starters.

We take the best team in the league to OT in the playoffs so let's fire everyone and start over.

That's just ridiculous.

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me year after year...?

This offseason will be the most important offseason that TT has ever had here. We have the pieces in place to win it all, however, thing is, we need a piece here and there to bolster that chance. We need a LT and I think TT should look toward FA to shore that position up. I don't want another year of David B or a rookie at that position. Secondly, we need another good draft. I want TT to be aggressive in this draft and trade up for players we want instead of settling for 2nd, 3rd or 4th tier players on our draft board. Do these things, and we'll win 12-14 games next season.

Good grief. This is just embarrassing.

TT doesnt make an effort? Right.

Failure, all riding great QB's to false resumes.

.

They had a game plan for Cobb- and it was working..Then he goes down..Now what? Only suited 4 wr --now down to bottom of the barrel of depth. Yet Abby took over and did a fantastic job in his spot. So to blame coaches for what players were there isnt wrong way to complain..

but thats your opinion

We are down to 3 Wrs for this game because TT made another dumb decision by not bringing up another but a freaking Db instead . Thank God it's not a shootout....

This is what I dont get with some posters..

Why is it you feel you are right and Ted is wrong? I am not trying to rattle you, but I am really curious why posters here ( or on any forum) think they know better than the GM or the coaches?

You see the tip of the iceberg and not what is underneath--- which is 90% more then what you know.
