With the limited number of bodies allowed by the league it is difficult to have adequate depth at every position. Should Gute have signed another guard when Morgan went down? With 20/20 hindsight yes, but Gute may have had other areas to address too so rolled the dice.
Good point. And I'm sure the rookie was on the 53 because the coaches thought he could perform. The three holding penalties were probably due to nerves, but penalties nonetheless. And all areas can't be addresses. It is a numbers game.

Let's be real about this. Unless some offensive lineman is an obvious flop in practice, the team really doesn't know until you put someone into a game. They didn't have many opportunities because our OL had great health this season. So it got down to the playoffs and we saw what we have for depth. I'll also not judge these guys for flopping in a road playoff game against a great DL.

As they always say, losing is just an opportunity to grow.
Yeah he hadn't played all season and so I'm sure nerves played a part. He was on the 53 for a reason. But a road playoff game against an excellent opponent would make any rookie edgy.

The OL really did stay healthy all season, a remarkable achievement. I'm still interested to see where Morgan fits in. Walker and Tom are solid at T. There was some talk about moving Tom to C. Maybe Morgan goes to RT?

This is it. Perennial playoff team that rarely goes the distance. Not being a entitled fan here, but just a realistic one. I'm still happy at where we are now (looking at you Bears), but it's time we awaken to reality.

- MLF has hit his his max capability and change needs to start with him. Maybe let the OC help with play calling, while he can look at some meta stuff like clock management, training against penalties etc. We have been mostly stagnant with just passing glimpses of brilliance making things more glitzy that they actually are. How can one be so strategic and blind at the same time!

- Gute's (and Ted's) team building is good to keep us here. We may need to rely on individual brilliance to take us further. But that's it. We are successful, but rarely dominate (looking at you, Lions). Overachievers, but never stars.

I really can't fault anyone as they have done their best. And here we are!

I am extremely disappointed by the outcome of this season.

However, it is crazy to say that the youngest team in the entire league has reached its ceiling.

My big worry is Morgan's shoulder injury...it never seem to get better. There nothing worse than OL with chronic shoulder issues. Shoulders are complex and i think many guys become gun shy after repair, just ask JA, he never returned to what he was pre injury.

Yeah the shoulder can be a chronic, troublesome injury. There are a lot of moving parts, and surgery to fix problems can have iffy outcomes. It's usually a rotator cuff tear that never seems to get fixed.

Well I hope Morgan can get well and be a contributor next year. To Dantes' point, it's crazy to say the NFL's youngest team has reached a ceiling. Changes are required in the offseason, just like every year.

My biggest wish for next year is that, for whatever reason(s), Love is able to play with confidence and aggression. He had that fire last season and maybe the early injuries set him back. Like the rest of the team, they should take some vacation and come back ready to play better.

They have reached their peak because MLF & BG hitched their wagon to Love.

Now, going into year six of Love's career, Love still has wonky mechanics, inexplicably isn't a great runner when the need arises, can't 'dance' in the pocket well, is inaccurate with an extremely low completion % and throws INT's in big games (which is what he showed at Utah St.)

Clements & MLF deserve credit for getting Love way beyond where I thought possible, but, this is it, he's maxed out.

Fans keep comparing him to Favre/Rodgers, but, that is laughable. True comparison is Cousins, Mayfield, Cutler, Darnold, etc., guys that put up respectable regular seasons and get hot occasionally, but, will break your heart in the playoffs.

MLF & BG were high fiving when they drafted Love. They made their bed that day, and a SB is something they can only dream about now.
So, you're right back to comparing him to Favre and Rodgers?

My biggest fear with Love is that he has 5 years in the system surrounded by pro QB coaching and a hall of fame QB to learn from. I just feel he lacks the intangibles..the Championship DNA..i cant really describe it but you know when you see it. guys remaining have it... Mahomes Jackson Allen Stafford Goff

Good point. I can't recall the name of a single KC WR, and yet here they are again at 15-2 with a 1 seed. And it comes down to coaching and consistency. Andy Reid is the best. I'd rather see the Bills in the SB. I won't be surprised at all if it's the Chiefs.
What really showed the prowess of that KC coaching staff was not just the SB win. But they had to go into Buffalo and Baltimore and beat those teams on the road back to back to get there. What Packer team could ever do that?

People can gnash their teeth all they want, but with his dead cap number, tied to him for at least 2 years probably 3. Earliest out is 2027 and even that would be a $31M dead cap hit.

This entire organization and fan base needs to seriously adjust to the modern NFL.

Billions of dollars are generated from this league and the bottom line is success.

Winning is attributed to that success, and Green Bay is a winning organization.

But if I'm not mistaken Green Bay is Titletown, so where's the title. What is the standard?

Is it division? playoffs? NFC Championship? Super Bowl appearance? Winning championships?

What is the vision for this franchise? What's the endgame?

As a fan, I want to see a dynasty. I want to see greatness. I'm spoiled. We're spoiled.

Back-to-back HOF quarterbacks for 30 years.

Great players. Elite players.

The standard should be winning the Super Bowl, every year, and everyone pulling in that one direction, sharing the same vision.

However, if the standard is just making the playoffs and "going from there", then I'll adjust my expectations.

The standard determines how a team is constructed.

Championship teams establish a culture and maintain it and it begins with its core players.

The Patriots under Brady/Belichick and Chiefs under Mahomes/Reid are proven examples of identifying the cornerstones of their team and building around that.

Who are truly the cornerstone players on the Packers?

A bit of luck involved too. Green Bay became Titletown because of winning all those titles in the 60s. There were a bunch of great players but anyone would be hard pressed not to acknowledge that Lombardi was truly The guy responsible. Kind of lucky to have had him. We should have won a couple more since then than we have. But looking to win a few more soon. I don't believe we are trying anything other than win it all. I guess when we do that; we'll all agree we did it right.

You're right. No QB playing today got the education or exposure to HOF experience as Love. Like "natural talent", there are some things that can't be taught.

Well I hope it was a sophomore slump and he returns to the form he showed late last season. I think he has it in him. He has to bring it back.

I agree that Love will bounce back next season, and I think he will continue an upward trajectory.

I think that injury suffered in Week 1 obviously was a recurring issue for him for the rest of the season.

He managed the injury and overcompensated, which lead to bad decisions with the ball sometimes.

Every time he got over an injury another one would pop up. He battled, but attrition struck the WR corps, and the bottom fell out against the Eagles.

I agree, it's a classic sophomore slump.

Everyone, including Love, need to make improvements and show progress next season.

I don't think he's reached his ceiling at all.

A lot of things go into the performance of a player over 17 plus games. I really do think he played hurt most of the season, and that's life in the NFL. He needs to step up more as the leader of that time, and he will.

I'm disappointed as anyone by the early exit. At the same time, there is a lot to look forward to.

Agree also. Plus it's the "season after signing the big contract" syndrome.
Yeah it's hard to feel sorry for a guy who just got a contract worth $200 million plus. That also puts him right under the spotlight - every game, every play. Anyone who has "tried too hard" to prove themselves will get it.

He'll heal up and speak up more next season. And with Gluten doing his magic with the roster, we have a lot to look forward to.

Sounds like you have a lot of faith in Gute. I hope it's justified.
Well I'm basing it off his track record. He brought in Jacobs and McKinney, and other than the first round - ironically - his draft record is good.

My guess is that he'll use FA to find a veteran CB and WR, assuming the cap is there, it should be. I'd like to see a veteran Edge rusher added, but that may take a trade. JS has an article today about a possible trade for Max Crosby. Those trades require giving up a lot of draft capital, and usually don't work out.

I think they are about 2 or 3 players away from getting farther toward a SB. I think Gluten can do it.

Although I was not a fan of the Love pick when it happened, I am FAR from pressing the panic button. Heck, even of the 5 QB's you listed above, Goff was a BIG question mark up until very recently. Stafford took his hits with many doubting him until he finally got traded and won the big one. And lastly, as great as Jackson has been in the regular season, MANY people question if he has "IT" that can lead you to a title, and whether he has that "championship DNA."

At the end of last season, I believed the Packers were in as good of shape as any team in the league going forward. I can't say I still believe that. I still think they are a very good team, that always has a chance. I now believe a few teams have passed them on the arrow is pointing up chart.

I totally agree.

I tore both of my rotator cuffs and partially separated both of my shoulders just prior to my senior season. I still believe that is why I was never recruited by the Badgers - that and my 5'8" 170lb frame probably didn't fit their thoughts about a typical center/nose tackle...

To this day my shoulders still slip to the edge of the socket and then slap back in when I least expect it. The things that we sacrifice for sport and fun in our youth!

Yeah, but nobody was saying that about Stafford or Goff until they got to their current teams. Mahomes and Jackson?? Instant stars as you pointed out. Some QBs need time to marinate or just need to cook low and slow to be awesome. Others need a change of scenery or coaches to reach their full potential.

Nobody was chanting Jared Goff's name before last season. Love has a lot of the tools. His shortcomings IMO are the kinds of things that a good QB coach should be able to fix.
