]He started his grumbling in Vegas barely after one season. Sounds like he wants out.

Not going to debate that probably made a poor decision, but how the FO handled his contract at least contributed to him wanting out.

Was what we got in trade fair? Probably. But continuing to annoy and drive away your top performers is not a way to run any industry, let alone one where the financial stakes are so high.

I think the Packers have done a good job on not annoying players and with their retention. Can't please them all. Davante even said he wanted to move somewhere else to raise his kids. Fans seem to want to assume every player wants to play for the Packers, not always the case.

Either he came in 40 lbs over weight and smelling of pot and stale beer or the Packers are really liking what they are seeing of Cox, Van Ness, Engabare, and Hollins.

Yeah. It’s an expensive and frustrating learning lesson. Here’s a guy already on contract that nobody can touch. I know it’s done but we should wait as long as possible and this is why.
If the player or representation tried to pressure us, just say we can give you on non premium offer now if you force our hand, but realize it’ll factor increased risk on our part. We recommend being patient on the player side and well prioritize this before next season.

It’s not like that player can leave. Maybe not as crucial on smaller contracts, but after all this I’m waiting until after the season is over. On those mega deals. $50Mil+ etc. As long as we learn from it ok, but please dear Lord don’t go through this again with Gary etc.
Bahk is happy with the lighter workload in preparing for 2023. A whole off season with no surgeries. I believe the Packers will spell him during games to get others some reps. But we all know as injuries can hit an offensive line plans get changed. And indeed things will happen.

I recall when we did not do such a good job with Mike McKenzie back in 2005. He wanted out so bad but was under contract. Favre told him to honor it. He feigned an injury and then they finally sent him to New Orleans. It added to the morale problems that season.

I vaguely remember that.

Like any business, sometimes you have to draw the line in the sand with players. If you don't, you might be setting yourself up for total anarchy. Whether it is on principle or to make a point, a deal is a deal. Some fans don't like to see it this way, but players are employees of THE TEAM. They sign a contract, for which most of them are paid quite a bit of money to fulfill. I don't care if you are the best player on the team or in the bottom 5, negotiate your terms, sign the contract and then honor it.

I would love to be able to go through life operating on honor and handshake deals, problem is, they don't mean shiiit anymore, to some people or the courts.

If I was a GM I would add years to a contract but never redo a contract to give in to a holdout. My public response to questions: "why give him a new contract when he refuses to abide by the last one?"

When it comes to NFL contracts, there's always some team out there willing to open the vault for a player, and guarantee them too much, because they think it's the key to winning a Lombardi Trophy.

The fact is, the best usage of the money is to develop players in your system, and plug them in, and use their leaving as additional draft picks, to improve your team. Then, at the same time, look for plug and play one or two year players, who can help you fill out your roster substantially, with only semi-guaranteed mid-range contracts. If you can't find them, you have to work with those a little lower in the ranks to get where they need to be to fill holes.

This overpaying players has turned into a fool's game.
Yeah. I think you can recover from a slight overpay on 2-3 upper echelon guys, understanding that you’ll have to do some thrifty contracts elsewhere for a mix.

Similarly to what you’ve alluded to above. I’ve always been a proponent of spreading resources across more players. If I’ve got +30M cap to spend I’d be very careful not spending it all on 1 player. I’d rather spend $18-20mil on player#1 someone closer in stature and
$10-12Mil (player #2) Or $7mil + $4Mil players #2/#3

The issue with those Khalil Mack deals is 1 player goes down and your chicken fried steak without the Skillet

He wanted to go raise his kids in Vegas? Man I fly in there for my spring golf trip and can’t wait to get the hell out of there the next day!

That was a sad tale. McKenzie was part of the Randy Moss 1999 CB draft. He was the one CB who actually panned out. The disappointment of losing the playoff game in Philly, the firing of Ed Donnatell, and the hiring of Slowik really troubled him. He was not happy with his contract either. Favre told him to honor his contract just as #4 had to honor his after the fact.

Think they have Crosby on speed dial?
I don't think they'd even consider him to be honest. They lost the opportunity to get him back in the fold at a minimum deal. Since they've moved, and have a home down here by us, and another in Tennessee, I don't think there's a chance he'd be interested unless it was for a decent buck.

That said, I think he'd go with Houston, Dallas, or the Titans, if they asked. He'd probably consider Denver as well, but that's never going to be the case.

On the other hand, if no one else has signed him, he might be glad to return. Mind you, I was a big fan of Crosby, but I think with the fresh start the team is going through, it would be a good time to start a new kicker. He has to be capable though.

Love was better today and went 4-7. Showing signs of the good arm.

Jordan Love capped off his best day of camp so far with a good 2-minute drill against the No. 1 defense that moved the ball 74 yards to the 1-yard line and set up a chip-shot field goal.

Love went 4-for-7 for 56 yards on the drive, which started at the offense’s 25 with a 1 minute, 40 seconds left in the first half and one time out. One of the incompletions was a spike.

A promising day. Let's hope it helps build his confidence.

Have you been down at practices? Seen him live? How’s the vibe there?

Good stuff and that was just 1 drive. He went 16/22 for the day including a 33 yarder to Toure to burn Rasul. Which Rasul claimed was a dime throw the play after a near INT for a TD. That was a smart play dial after Rasul was playing overly aggressive and was purposely baited on a perfectly run “out” fake by Samorie.
73% Completion rate and more importantly was a fantastic bounce back finish after a rough start last week.

Family Night next Saturday, and the following Friday, preseason game #1 at Cincinnati. That's when people can start making at least temporary decisions in their minds about where this team is going. Until now, any thoughts that the sky is falling is Chicken Little Theory.

If it looks bad in Cincy, we'll be selling Kleenex to those who need it, for a small fee. ;)

Amen. I figure whenever I stock up on something I end up buying way too much or not needing it. So with that in mind I went to Sam’s Club and bought about 4 Bushels worth of Kleenex, that’s 3,728 Tissues I’ll have on hand for Packer games that I’m sure not to need! It’s sure to lift the curse! Take my ideas with a grain of salt, me Great Great Grandparents were Ole and Lena and not so great great upstairs

2 minute drill scenario we were down by 2 pts. Took the clock down to 2 seconds.
With a rookie kicker and no Mason! Gotta punch those in! :coffee:

Granted, Love didn't make a name for himself as an option QB at Utah State, but I expect MLF to get more creative on short yardage and take advantage of Jordan's youthful legs.
