The defense was playing as well as they needed to in the first half. They held them to 4 FGs. That should be enough to give Rodgers time to do the job.
That's true, this loss is on the offense. And that is a positive for the defense to take away from this game.
I wouldn't put the D in the "stud" category though. It's great that they stiffen near the end zone, but it's not good that they gave up those long drives. That opening drive was eight minutes. If the opposing team is going to let me hold the ball and get into the red zone or close to it, I'm going to take my chances with that every time.

Observation: Well, so much for the MVP talk.

I don't even feel like the team showed up this week. Not sure what a showing like this says about our chances in the postseason. That said, I fully expect them to bounce back and win next week.

I actually never made that claim

Seriously? Stop backpedaling already. You said that someone else asked what made the Packers organization the class of the NFL. You then went on to ask, "... wouldn't that be the Patriots in this era?"

but it's become quite obvious that reading comprehension is not really your thing, so it's all good. You did, however, finally state a reason why you felt that way and then clarified that it is just your personal opinion, which I agree that everyone is entitled to. Kudos!

Oh, you can rest assured that my reading comprehension is more than adequate to see that you think you're far more smooth and clever than you actually are, with your cutesy, condescending barbs. But really it just belies your impudent nature.

You forgot to mention the defense and special teams not all Arods fault, coaching also gets and honorable mention.

The defense did what they needed to do against a good offense. They held them to FGs the whole first half, which should have given the offense the opportunity to execute. Rodgers wasn't looking for anyone but 17 for 3 quarters of football.

I don't believe I did. But they weren't a dud either.

Studs
Packer fans at the game. Stayed and cheered till the end.

Jamaal Williams
Great effort

Duds
All others with a Special mention to:

The OC or MLF. Whoever came up with the game plan which called for single blocks on Bosa and Ingram.

MLF for not making adjustments til 2nd half.

Oline

Martinez, who got blocked by his own player on the first TD run.

What adjustments?

Please don't let the defense off the hook just because the offense was the focal point of the problem today. The defense was bad. They were routinely gashed up and down the field. They are making 3rd and short run plays look routine for opponents. They allowed 446 yards of offense and 26 points which is not good, but it could have easily been 35. They have allowed well over 400 yards a game ever since Philly. They failed to pressure a poor offensive line and failed to force a single turnover against a turnover vulnerable team.

If you didn't think the defense was bad today, it's only because the offense was that much worse, but no, the defense was not good. "Bend but don't break" is not a sustainable strategy against NFL playoff teams. Nothing about the way the defense played today will cut it against Seattle or New Orleans in January unless Rodgers goes into God mode and starts putting up 40 points per game in the playoffs.

They'll bounce back just fine. Chargers are a team that got healthy at the right time. Their playoffs started this week and they played like it.

Evidently they were playing for their season and we just were not ready. I won't worry unless they play like like this next week at Lambeau.

Yeah, but had they won this game, the Pack could have comfortably afforded a possible loss to the unbeaten Niners down the road. I am going over to the official GB website now to see if Lafleur gave the "we have to do better" post game speech(copyright Mike McCarthy).

I'm pretty sure about every coach gives that speech after a loss. What speech would you give? The "it's okay because we did our best" speech?

The Chiefs are studs for beating the Vikings.

The only silver lining is that if we had to lose a game, this was probably the one to lose. Same week the Vikings lost and losing to an AFC team doesn’t hurt as much for tiebreakers.

This is true. ALL of our divisional opponents lost today. It would have been nice to put more distance between us and them, however. Let's hope this is just one of those stinkers teams can have once in a while.

I don’t know why exactly, but this season reminds a lot of the 1996 season. Maybe because they are playing the AFC west and many of the same NFC teams too. If you remember, that team went on the road to KC and lost and then to Dallas and got beat up 21-6 for their 3rd loss of the season. They then went to St Louis and were getting beat by the Rams most of the first half until an INT turned things around for them. They didn’t lose again that year, winning SB XXXI

What year was it back then when we went on the road to a winless Colts team and lost?

The defense held a good team to field goals on 4 red zone trips. If the offense anything close to its capabilities, nobody is *****ing about them. BTW, this isn't the 1990 NFL. This is the 2019 NFL. "Bend but don't break" is the best any team can hope for against a competent opponent. The rules are so skewed in favor of the offense that the days of shutdown defense are over except against the very worst teams, like the ones the Patriots played in 7 of their first 8 games.

Please show me the quote where I stated that the Patriots are the class of the NFL.

My quote prior to the words you just said was literally "If we're going by recent historical performance,"

But, like usual, you conveniently edited that part out to fit the story you want to tell.

IF we're talking about winning. IF. IF. IF. See, that's why I asked you how you were defining the term. Which was really a simple question. IF we're only talking about recent success in this era, everything else excluded, then yes, obviously the Patriots would be at the top of the list.

I really don't care, it's an opinion anyway. I have a lot of respect for the Packers organization and history. I have a lot of respect for how much the Patriots have won over the last 18 years. I have respect for the numerous Super Bowls the Steelers have won. It's all subjective anyway, and this is frankly an embarrassing line of debate to be in for both of us. But it's pretty silly and childish to sit there and go "nonono you said the Patriots are the class of the NFL!!" when I'm obviously simply debating terms with you and literally explaining the context of what I'm saying.

I think the 2019 49ers defense would disagree with you.

Yes, the game has changed since 1990, but there's plenty of defenses that still put competent performances together against strong offensive opponents. The Bears made a living out of it last season.

Dude, for the last time, I believe for good reason that the Packers organization is the classiest in the NFL. They do more for their fans, former players and community than anyone else. But you don't think they are. You want to define it by recent historical performance (even though that seems to be a bit of an oxymoron) only. You have this overwhelming respect for the slimy under-handed Bob Craft/Patriots organization. But it's okay. Drop it already if you honestly "really don't care."

*facepalm* See, why couldn't you just say those first two sentences and leave it at that? You clearly stated your point and your opinion......and then the rest of the paragraph you again went on to put numerous words in my mouth that I never said. You just couldn't help yourself.

"You don't think they are"
No? I never said the Packers aren't a classy organization.

"You want to define it by recent historical performance"
Again, no? I just asked how you were defining it when you said it. I never said I was defining it any way at all. WTH are you talking about?

"You have this overwhelming respect for the slimy underhanded Bob Kraft"
Uh, nope. Never once said anything about respecting Kraft. I even said he was a slimeball earlier. I said I respected the organization's winning. That was it. You're embellishing again.

STOP PUTTING WORDS IN PEOPLE'S MOUTHS THAT THEY DIDN'T ACTUALLY SAY.

The 49ers have two quality wins against the Rams and Panthers. The rest are cupcakes, just like the Patriots. And go look at the Bears schedule from last year. They did plenty of bending. Hell, they give up 31 to the damn Dolphins and 30 to the Bills.

I don't know what you guys mean by "class of the NFL". But as for the Patriots, they have certainly been the best the last 2 decades. But I wouldn't put the Patriots in the same class as the Packers in terms of all time historical greatness. To be an all time great team, you need success that transcends a single coach and quarterback. The Packers have that, the Patriots don't.

Actually they throttled the Bills 41-9.

In my opinion, too much is made of strength of schedule and strength of victory. This isn't the NCAAs, where you might be favored by 35 in essentially a tuneup game. Most NFL teams are capable of beating most others on a given day.

It also lacks context. SOS will tell you that the 49ers had a quality win against the Panthers, but it won't tell you that they utterly humiliated a quality opponent that day, an opponent who otherwise hasn't lost since September 12th. SOS will tell you that the Packers beating the Chiefs looks like a high quality win, but it won't tell you that they faced Matt Moore and not Patrick Mahomes that day.

The 49ers are a really good team. I'm not saying we can't win, it'll obviously take a much better effort than what we saw this weekend. But I'm not going to use their schedule to discount them when we've got plenty of folks in our defense who say "we didn't get to 7-2 on accident."

Hmm, I guess I drank the Kool-Aid. I had sworn before the season started I wasn't going to get my hopes up unless they showed me something. But it looked like we had a defense, and the 7-1 start (could have been 6-2) looked pretty good, we were trying to run the ball, and Rodgers was talking about a good feel in the locker room. I suppose I bought into it. Not saying I expected us to win the Super Bowl, but I thought we'd contend. We've had worse years than this and still made it to the NFC Championship Game.
