Pettine wanted the Jets to draft him and was a big part of his development. I can understand people being a little gun shy after the M. Bennett disaster but this looks to be different. He is only 28 and if the Packers sign him I think we should trust Pettine.

Maybe they will get Demario Davis next.

The Jets are a rebuilding team. He doesn't want to be there nor is he going to give a damn to put in effort on a team he doesn't want to be part of.

Yet he was happy to cash their checks.

The guy is complete turd. Let some other team waste their money and time on him.

Not everyone advocated for it? Hasn't it been well known that the lack of action in free agency is one of the main causes for the Packers losing out on chances to improve and getting Rodgers another ring? That's not an opinion. It's a fact, and the idea that you all can find the negativity in a free agent acquisition that absolutely improves this team's defense is laughable. As if you all know there are much better options out there. Teams dump players for many reasons aside from talent. Why did KC trade Peters? You're telling me you wouldn't want Peters because KC doesn't want him anymore? LOL okay man.

Is it really an opinion that Wilkerson would be an upgrade and provide a boost to our defensive front?
Salary cap? Again, you don't know better than our FO. Stop acting like it. I'm supporting their decisions, not acting like there's no such thing as a salary cap. I trust they'll make the right call because IT'S THEIR JOB. STICK TO YOUR JOB.
I do know more than Oldschool. He's not worth a damn to me nor do I know who the hell he is. I also don't care who he is, if that helps.
Again, it's not an opinion. It's a fact that Wilkerson is an upgrade and improvement to our defensive front, which lacked the pass rush needed to make an impact.

How about this one for you buddy...Quit acting like you've got the knowledge that surpasses the members of our front office. Try that for a change.

The Jets are a rebuilding team. He doesn't want to be there nor is he going to give a damn to put in effort on a team he doesn't want to be part of. They don't want that type of energy in the locker room around their younger guys. That doesn't take away from his talent, the impact he'd have on our defense, or the effort he'd put in on a winning team. Yeah he has character issues, but all it can take is a change of scenery for him, and he could turn those issues around. His impact and talent isn't something anyone can deny. Pairing him with Daniels and Clark gives us the potential to have a top 3 defensive line in the league.
I know he has talent, everybody knows that. But if he's a guy that won't play for the money he's making, WTF do I want him for? He's Martellus Bennett, Albert Haynsworth, etc. When the going gets tough, these tough guys **** of town. I'd rather invest money in a guy that plays his *** off when things get tough and there isn't much hope of winning, but he plays hard anyway.

They might want him, and maybe Pettine can motivate him. Or maybe he just made his money and is done. his motivation is gone and when the chips are against him again, he'll just quit. I have no idea. I'm not looking to give him even decent money to see what he might do.

I am seeing pettine vision. And I love it.
Wilkerson is a high risk pick. But if pettine and Wilkerson and GB figure out a incentive type deal. Then by all means. Sign this deal and watch the big three do the job of 4Dlinemen. :)

Please, Bennett and Haynesworth aren't even close to Mo. Mo's 28 and an absolute monster. I'm not saying he's a superstar, but he's damn good. Paired with Daniels and Clark, he could be a game changer. This defensive line would free up Clay, Perry, and Martinez to excel at what they do best. That defensive front would have the potential to dominate the opposing run game. They'd have the ability to pressure the QB and limit the time he has to throw, which also improves our secondary. Do you realize how much an impact this guy could have on this defense? Remember our Super Bowl defense? Yeah, we had a pretty nice defensive line.

Yeah as really it would give him a new leash on life despite a bad season for the Packers. But still he seems he wants to do good for a winning team. Question is where will he play if not GB?!

I do realize what he "could" be and I'd be cautiously optimistic that he would be for us should we actually sign the guy. If Pettine wasn't here, I would like it less. But even Haynseworth and Bennett were actually coming off decent years before they left their teams. Wilkerson would probably play better for a new team with a chance of winning, but I would worry what he might become if the going gets tough again. He's not a guy you rally behind that's for sure. Physically a beast, mentally, school child. could work for a short term. I would definitely not invest for anything more than 1-2 years with as little guaranteed as possible.

I don't know a ton about Wilkerson but I do know that players can bounce back when brought to a winning team. Randy Moss avegaed just over 50 catches a year over 3 seasons on bad teams before rebounding in New England. Being on bad teams does wear some guys down. You can say it shouldn't but it does. It is up to the staff to figure out if Wilkerson still has the talent and drive to be worth a deal

There's no doubt Wilkerson would be an upgrade over Lowry talent wise but that doesn't automatically translate to on-field success as he hasn't played hard since getting a huge contract from the Jets. The Packers would take a huge risk signing him to a contract he will most likely look for as there's no guarantee a change of scenery would improve his work ethic.

Unfortunately the Packers signing either Wilkerson and/or Davis would address the team's most pressing needs.

:roflmao::roflmao::roflmao: There have a lot of posters like you before, fortunately most of them didn't last long around here.

Haynesworth was only 28 years old at the time he signed a mega deal with Washington as well but yet ended up being a major bust. Once again, I don't have an issue with Wilkerson's talent but his work ethic.

Hate to use this months catch phrase but ...."on the cheap". Wilkerson could be a great signing or a total bust signing. I'm just not sure the Packers have the cap space or the need at the position (over other positions) to risk investing too much into this guy.

If you were Gute, what would you be willing to sign him for and for how long? I honestly have no clue what I would be willing to gamble on the guy.

Yes, I’d rather spend money at the CB position, it will be interesting. That being said CB’s that are good are expensive.

Yes and Yes.

Unfortunately, the Packers have not had much success at fixing the CB position through draft and develop so it continues to be a huge flaw of the defense. So unless Pettine and Witt think King, Randall and the rest of the current group are the answer, it basically puts CB as the #1 position of need in the FA market.

Drafting has been fine. It's the developing that is at issue. If Hyde and Hayward were still on the team we would have a good secondary with house, king and Rollins. With Pettine calling the shots, I think we will be better but we still need a good CB. I don' like wht FA has to offer for CBs.

If Wilkerson is back to his old form, that will go along way to helping the secondary. Less time they have to cover.

I just don't trust him for the long run. He may get reenergized playing for a winner, but that will fade after a season or two.

Read this for years but new to posting.

Anyway, what's been said is all true. Who knows if he'll come back to form or not. No one but him has any idea. Alas... that's free agency. He's a great D lineman if he wants to be that would make our D line dominant and as we all know, football starts on the line.
With Pettine running the show now, I see this defense turning around even if no players were added, but just having a top tier free agent want to come look at us is great news. We can always say no.

I think we're all imagining what Wilkerson could be instead of remembering what he has been as of late.

He's not anybody I would throw a lot of money or years at. He would have to take a significant cut from his $17/yr contract that he had.

But at the same time, everybody thought Charles Woodson and Peppers were washed up too.

I'll trust Pettine. He knows the guy well.

How long have we been saying "If Matthews and Cobb would return to their old form" and here we all are talking about cutting them. Now the difference between Wilkerson and those 2 could strictly be motiviation, but are you willing to bet a good chunk of your cap money on it? I have no clue what Wilkerson's financial situation, but based on what the Jets paid him, I don't think he has to play to feed, clothe or house him, his family and as many friends as he chooses to. So just how do you motivate a guy like that?

For some odd reason I just keep seeing Mo Bennett and Joe Johnson in my head.

So let me get this straight... I've been lurking here for a while and I see constant whining about our lack of aggressiveness in free agency
I appreciate your honesty. Thank you for sharing :whistling:

For me it’s not that I don’t want to use FA. It’s more about the economics of it, we need to be smart about how we utilize an arguably limited Cap. I just see our D backfield could useanother Veteran leader first.

I also wouldn’t mind also getting a halfway decent Veteran QB in FA.
Another need would be a TE (not necessarily in that order) who could make a difference.
I think Wilkerson could eliminate one or several of those objectives (unless we outright steal him).

I’m not opposed to Wilkerson per say, I just question if he would be a good value. We already have enough question marks, I personally want to feel good about whoever we spend our valuable FA $$$ on.

But I don't think anyone ever questioned their drive. Wilkerson goes into the camp with Haynesworth. I don't trust a football player who is lazy and unmotivated.

I know many look at our DL as a strength and I don't disagree with that whatsoever. The problem is what happens if Kenny or Mike D goes down? I remember a few seasons ago the defensive backfield was considered to be incredibly deep and by the time the PO's rolled around we had practice squad guys STARTING! If you can get a guy of MW's talent for a reasonable cost, do it. A fierce DL helps every level of the D. It makes life easier on the guys coming off the edge for the QB. It helps stifle the run game which lessens the impact of PA. It keeps lane cleaner for the LB's to flow to ball and make plays. Most importantly, if you can get consistent pressure up the middle the guys on the backend don't have to cover for nearly as long. MW had his best season under Pettine and it's not like he's 34YO and playing on his last leg. This isn't a guy we should break the bank for but if we can get him with an incentive laden deal he could have a big impact on the D if MP gets him to play at a high level. I am in.
