I know this is an old post, but I wouldn't count on things playing out that way. Hafley said several times that he didn't like being a head coach in college football - because the NIL forced him to spend the vast majority of his time recruiting new players plus re-recruiting his own players to keep them from transferring at the end of every season.Hafley realized that he loves coaching players, not being a head coach. Now I'm not predicting that he will be the Packers DC until the end of time, but he's not leaving at the end of this season to be a HC.
When Hafley was hired, I hardly knew anything about him other than his name. But when he signed on, I spent a lot of time studying him - reading interviews, watching videos of his coaching clinics, speeches he gave, etc. And the one thing that shouted the loudest is that he freakin' loves coaching. He left college coaching behnd because coaching in college wasn't coaching anymore. It was nothing but recruiting.
I wouldn't be at all surprised if he accepted an offer to coach a team at some point. In fact, from what I've read of him, I think he'd like the challenge and the opportunity. If he does what we all hope he's going to do with our D, by Year 3, we may find ourselves in danger of losing him.
