I think I understand Pettine's MO now. It's happened in three straight games roughly. He starts in zone, and I believe he wants to stay in zone but the LB position is holding him back. When crunch time happens, he switches to man and dials up a blitz based on what he's tasked both safeties to do. If we still had Greene, or when we get back Campbell, this should work a lot better....key word is "should".

Hats off to the entire secondary, they bent alot but didn't break. I think Moore took maybe 2 shots downfield total? They didn't allow but one huge play and that was the Kelce TD which was again the problematic zone. You have to give KC their props they have some speedsters out there, but the secondary contained it.

Pettine has to know that the Zone coverage doesnt work with our LBs so why keep on trying ? Especially the Chiefs are vulnerable against man coverage so why not use the possible advantage all game? I understand the idea of "bent but dont break" and I dont care if the enemy makes a lot of yards but seeing the Packers give up alot of points in one quarter because the scheme doesnt work at all is so frustrating. ILB gonna be the biggest priority in the draft/FA. Rodgers makes it work with any WR available but the defense cant cover the glaring weakness in the middle. That has to change.

Weakness No. 1 at the defensive side remains the tackling tho. It is embarassing to watch them take the worst angles possible and just throw themselves blindly into the players.

Studs: Rodgers
Jones
Kumerow
Great blocking by some of the receivers.
Bak and Bulaga for playing through pain.

Duds: King
All the missed tackles

Lady luck was also on Aaron's side because 3 of his passes could easily have been intercepted.

Great game, but frustrating as well. I think win the Pack got those TD's so quickly they kind of let up. Then KC began to rally and they didn't have an answer for them. But they kept fighting and pulled it off. Go Pack Go

Pardon the double post. Too early in the morning.

Studs: LaFleur, Rodgers, all the RB’s, O-Line, Crosby. Got to include Andy Reid. The man is an offensive genius. He schemed his greatly short handed offense brilliantly.

Duds: Kick coverage and return teams. We just are very weak in that area. Afraid it’s going to cost us a game down the line.

Me too, but I'll say that year we won a Super Bowl I had the same thought. We weren't a complete enough team and at some point the special teams would cost us. I hope this year is like that one :)

That pass Jamal Williams caught in the corner of the endzone was a great throw
Rodgers made, but I feel as great as Rodgers is, why not give some credit to Jamal Williams.

It takes two, one the throw the pass and the other to catch it.

I'm glad you said it. I thought Andy Reid was exceptional with his coaching and schemes last night. He deserves a hats-off.

Great team win and I’ll take it! Great road win. However man the defense isn’t as good as Good as ppl are making them out to be. They cannot consistently generate pass rush, and boy, Martinez isn’t that good either. He’s literally a AJ Hawk clone. He’s a liability in the passing game and he never makes any plays at or behind the LOS.

Also they are going to have to find a #2 wr. God forbid Aaron Jones gets hurt. Your RB cannot be your best wr idc who you are or who’s injured. The Chiefs blitzed Rodgers alllll night and other teams will do the same until Adams is back because ourbWRs are not that great outside of Adams. That’s definitely going to be a high draft pick next off season I’m sure.

In the last 6 games, the Packers are averaging 30.7 points per game, which would be good for 2nd in the NFL based on current leaders. For an offense that hasn't had Davante for the past 4+ games, and for all of the critiquing we've done on the lack of receivers, that's quite impressive to know that you haven't had your best guy and aren't even close to firing on all cylinders, and still be able to put points on the board.

When Davante comes back and if Gute makes a move for another receiver, goodness gracious at the potential.

Studs:
  • Rodgers: Continues to be the vintage Rodgers. You love to see it.
  • Jones: He is entering that upper echelon of difference making running backs.
  • Williams: I love the energy; amazing TD catch.
  • Jenkins: He's been a great rookie, generally, but when they needed to run the clock out, he really asserted himself.
  • Alexander: He isn't perfect, but he was one of our few guys on defense that matched KC's speed and aggression.
Honorable Mentions: Za'Darius, Fackrell, Gary, Sullivan

Duds:
  • All Non-RB Pass Catchers: The offensive lull was brought on because KC was able to blitz with impunity. They were able to blitz without getting burned (again-- outside of the backs), because they were able to play man coverage against our receivers and tight ends. And here's the thing-- their defensive personnel is not that good. If the Chiefs secondary can match up and cover our current slate of weapons in man, then that's a clear indication that this team needs more help in that area.
  • Special Teams: Shaky across the board.

hmmm. i'm thinking...maybe pettine and the soft zone D again. i don't get it but maybe he knows our secondary's weaknesses better than i do. i thought we'd play more press/man than we do. allowing te's to kick our ***** every week is infuriating.

I'm not going to be overly disappointed if Gute doesn't make a move before tomorrow's deadline, but if he can find even a decent deal for the Packers, he should consider it to get more help at receiver.

If the Packers were 4-4 or even 5-3 right now, I could understand being patient and addressing it next offseason. But this team has a legitimate chance at the #1 overall seed in the NFC. It might be time to plunge just a little to acquire another playmaker.

The toughest part of the schedule is out of the way. Here's what we have left:

@ Chargers
Carolina
@ San Francisco
@ New York Giants
Washington
Chicago
@ Minnesota
@ Detroit

The Chargers will feel like another home game. There will be at least 50% green and gold in that stadium. And the Chargers aren't that good. Carolina is more than beatable at home, then we get two weeks to prepare for the showdown against Frisco. Home field could very well be in play. The Giants and Skins are another couple of bye weeks, and then we finish against the division.

The Packers have a hell of an opportunity. Let's see if Gute has something up his sleeve.

If I had to guess, I'd say there's a 20% chance a deal is made.

I agree. Sometimes there just isn't a good move to make. But it sounds like they're still looking, and I'm glad for that. Hopefully something materializes.

I thought our kick-off special team really picked it up in the 2nd half. A lot of intensity and keeping returners on the right side of the 25.

Letting Kelce kick your *** is a lot better than Tyreek Hill.

Perfect spiral on a rope falling away, to his right. Just a little side arm flick. The arm talent is just so off the charts.
that wasn't a rope. he rainbowed it. he (admittedly) threw up a prayer and it was answered. great catch!

Studs:

A. Jones. Great hands, breakaway speed, agile, smart . . . what else can you ask for? He can't be covered by an LB so teams are going to have to dedicate a DB to him. That creates mismatch opportunities, and when Devante comes back the possibilities just expand further. Can't wait!

J. Williams. Fantastic concentration on that TD catch. He runs, he blocks, he catches, he hangs onto the ball. Perfect fit for this offense and perfect complement to A. Jones.

Rodgers. He took one really bad sack, but otherwise played another outstanding game. There are not many quarterbacks in history who could have make the throw the Kumerow caught. Great audible on the handoff to A Jones for a clutch first down. Two things I want to see: avoid the bad sack, and avoid the delay of game on the slow huddle break. Could have been picked a couple times -- ball bounced right for us, whew. Otherwise, Rodgers is The Man. We are so fortunate as fans. Can you imagine cheering for a team that puts out Mitch Trubisky every week?

Lazard. This guy will be a big difference maker for us for years I think. With his size, hands and brain I think he's got a nice career ahead of him. I see him passing up both Allison and MVS on the depth chart.

Crosby. Got it done on a windy day. Can't take that for granted.

Lancaster. Fumble recovery was key.

La Fleur. Love the way the offense is developing. Love the creativity, the use of Jones to create mismatches, the good mix of grind it out/move the chains ball with quick deadly strikes. What a refreshing change from the tired, stale offensive scheme of the prior two years.

Honorable mentions:

Andy Reid. That was a heck of game plan and it nearly worked even missing his MVP and a bunch of other starters. Credit where due.

Matt Moore. He was accurate and efficient. Two balls should have been picked, I think, but whether that was on his receivers or him I'm not sure.

Duds:

Second quarter defense. Letting them back in the game could have killed us. Second half adjustments were made, thank heavens. I know KC's got fast skill players. Hard to keep up with them. But once you catch them you've got to tackle them. Yikes.

Martinez. Clearly not playing at full strength. When he's in top form he's good against the run and a bit of a liability in coverage. In his current form he's a liability, period. But apparently we've got nobody better. I think he's got good football intelligence, but his body is letting him down right now. If the Packers make a trade I would far prefer to get help at inside linebacker than receiver. Sure, it would be nice to have a second stud WR to pair with Adams, but honestly, I think Lazard/MVS/ Allision/Kumerow collectively are good enough to get us through as long as Aaron Jones is playing in his current lights-out form. An above average coverage LB could have a huge impact for us.

Special teams, apart from Crosby. Scott had an off night. Coverage was poor. Returns were barely adequate.

At halftime I thought this one was going to get away from us. What a terrific win.

That pass Jamal Williams caught in the corner of the endzone was a great throw
Rodgers made, but I feel as great as Rodgers is, why not give some credit to Jamal Williams.

It takes two, one the throw the pass and the other to catch it.

I suspect a lot of praise is going in Rodgers' direction because he was going down on the throw. #12's legend grows. :D

Dark Helmet, one ILB I would LOVE to see Gutes add via trade is Alec Ogletree from the Giants.

soft zone didn't keep that from happening. he's the only man they stayed close to.

Oh? Did he score? Did he get a long TD?

You're not going to stop those guys, you just want to contain them.

If you have King man to man press on Hill, we're in for a long freaking night.

Idk. Trading for the opportunity to pay Ogletree $10 million a year isn't appealing to me.

It figures a lot people will use last night as a reason to hate Pettine and bag on King like usual. it should be a testament to a coach using the resources he has in a way to beat the opponent in front of them. The same guys that *****ed for years about Thompson wanting to pound square pegs into round holes with guys like Perry (never mind it was injury that limited him, not ability) are the same ones screaming that King gives Tyreek Hill too much cushion 1 on 1 in a 3rd and 6 with absolutely zero help over the top. They don't even get the irony of their position

They also don't have much in the way of big picture vision either. outside of a couple busted plays early, the defense did exactly what they had planned to do and when the offense got back to moving the ball it proved to be a winning formula.
