Well, it´s stating the obvious but Thompson and some posters around here still haven´t grasped that would have been the way to go. Therefore you most likely will have to live with me still posting it from time to time going forward.

and I am going to keep agreeing with it as long as you or anyone else keeps posting it. :coffee:

Sure hindsight is 20/20, so now it seems like a really obvious statement that Captain, I and others have been making about the CB position. However, some of us were making that statement back in September, after the Lions game, when it became pretty obvious the secondary was struggling without Shields.

If Shields getting hurt wasn't enough...Randall missed several games due to injury. TT Did what he's always done...promote practice squad guys...or go sign practice squad guys from another team who really aren't ready or need to be in the NFL. It's like he's more concerned about having guys on special teams then being able to contribute and help fix the real weakness of this team. Again, a lot of the time I think he's more concerned with how much money he can save than signing free agents. I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't be more excited about him leaving than any game the Packers have won under him besides the SB. When a team is consistently bad on defense or offense and the players the GM brings in don't fill those holes it's the GM. TT has always Stunk at drafting guys for the defense. 1 out of 5 times he finds a player.

If my stats are right, we forced our opponents to punt only 59 times in the regular season! If you look at team totals for # of punts, that would rank at 26th. San Francisco was forced to punt 100 times. Packers by comparison punted 56 times. Imagine a defense that can get AR the ball 1-3 more times per game and not after a score.

I have no doubt that our offense, if it continues to play as it did, will be fine in 2017, as long as AR is running it. While I would prefer finding the missing pieces on defense through other means, I wouldn't be opposed to trading any starter from the offense as long as their number isn't 12.

You've got a better chance at seeing TT sign a high priced free agent than him trading. That's for sure. I'd gladly trade Clay Matthews for Joe Haden but that'll never happen. Matthews is another one of those players living off his name now. I'd trade him while he still has some value.

I'd be open to trading Adams and a 1st rounder for A.J. from Cincy.

Your joking right? Theres only one person in the league worth giving a first rounder up and the packers already have him.
Tell that to the Vikings.

But seriously, a #29 pick? People wouldn't be open to trading it for a quality starting CB who isn't currently under achieving on a big contract?

Just look back at the history of our picks near that #29 spot and see who we have drafted.

Not sure what point is being made, nor what qualifies as 'near' #29, but here are the Packer picks this century at #23 or lower:

2003 29 Nick Barnett LB Oregon State
2004 25 Ahmad Carroll CB Arkansas
2005 24 Aaron Rodgers QB California
2008 30 (dealt to N.Y. Jets in draft-day trade)
2009 26 Clay Matthews LB Southern Cal.
2010 23 Bryan Bulaga T Iowa
2011 32 Derek Sherrod T Mississippi State
2012 28 Nick Perry LB Southern Cal.
2013 26 Datone Jones DE UCLA
2015 30 Damarious Randall CB Arizona State
2016 27 Kenny Clark DT UCLA

A couple of busts (Carroll and Sherrod). 1 or 2 FHOF's (Rodgers and Matthews). Bulaga and Perry solid. Barnett ok. Not ready to declare Jones or Randall bad picks. Clark to early.

So maybe a 50/50 shot at finding an eventual starter? What do the Packers need in 2017 to make it to the Super Bowl and will a #29 pick help with that?

Datone shows up and then goes away. He has really disappointed so far. He's one of those could be great, but won't be average types it seems.

Clay Matthews has absolutely zero chance of making the hall of fame.

considering I don't see any movement of Clay this offseason, i would fully welcome a return to a HOF trajectory in his career :) But as of late, he has not been on the same path he was before obviously

It's been long enough for me to declare D. Jones a bust. Would anyone be sad if we didn't bring him back? Probably not bc he's replaceable by any jag out there

All these people on Pepper's nut need to back off. The guy is an incredible athlete, but we don't need more project players. He doesn't have a true position. He doesn't have the speed or coverage ability to be a corner. Might be a strong safety/hybrid linebacker, but I just don't see him being what we need at all.

I see your point. Jourdan Lewis would be a better option hands down.

The Colts reportedly favor Chris Ballard of the Chiefs for their GM position, who apparently won't want to keep Pagano.

At this point keeping Capers seems to be all settled, but there may be a very qualified replacement on the market soon.

Clay is " only" 30, and can still be fine. Sitton and Lang? Gotta go, they're 30!!!
Heh, ain't perceptions fun?
This is true. James Jones was "old and over the hill" in some fans minds 2 years ago, which at the time was younger than the age Jordy played at this year. I think a lot of it has to do with the individual, their mindset, as well as injuries sustained throughout their playing days.

I was ok with Sitton being gone and Jones. Both players I really like and respect. I would like to re-sign Lang. I wish we could trade Clay, but at the moment I think we're stuck no matter what. I hope he gets back to 12 sacks a year for the next 2 at least :)

There are plenty of his worth giving up first round picks for...unless you honestly think a guy like AJ Green wouldn't help this team more than drafting a guy like Datone Jones or Nick Perry.

Part of any improvement would be addition by subtraction. Don't resign guys like Datone Jones or Jayronne Elliott.
