So is Gute done until the draft? I personally doubt it.

Hopefully, there are still talks going on with Breeland and Wilkerson.

I wouldn't mind hearing the name Tre Boston brought up as a potential signing. Boston waited out a pretty dead market last year and ended up signing for only $1.5M right before training camp opened. He had another solid season in Arizona, so not sure if he is weighing offers or just not getting any. For $1.5M, I think he would make a great pairing with Amos.

Incentives that are deemed unlikely to be earned (based on a player's performance during the previous season) don't count against the cap initially.

Of course as HRE taught me in the past they would result in an additional cap hit if a player earns them.

I thought that is what I said. "If all three hitythose incentives all of a sudden you have 6 million in additional cap space to account for next year." They would count against the cap next year.

I see the confusing part may have been where I said

"Second you have to consider next years salary cap when offering incentives that may be reached."

I didn't mean incentives likely to be earned with regards to salary cap terminology which would count against the cap right away, I meant actual incentives that a player has somewhat of a chance to earn next season. Clays 12 sacks or Breelands 10 interceptions. Both of which are highly unlikely and would be considered unlikely to be reached for cap purposes but I could envision a scenario where they could happen. If not they would fall under the ridiculous category and not be much of an incentive to entice a player to sign.

Boston would be a nice pick up but I highly doubt the Packers will spend money on another safety in free agency.

I'm guessing we have entered the part of free agency where teams look to sign a few of their own UFA, the ones that haven't garnered a lot of outside interest and might be amenable to a cap-friendly contract. For Green Bay, perhaps Muhammed Wilkerson, Bashaud Breeland, maybe even Clay Matthews (if he's okay with playing inside).

Honestly I think Gute is done. But if he was to spend money I like these 4 guys:

Chris Conley - Despite being drafted in 2015 as an X Receiver, he did okay in the slot last year behind Sammy Watkins and Tyreek Hill. He's 6'3 and runs 4.35. He fits Gute's mold for a receiver.

Josh Sitton/TJ Lang - Without discussing them ad nauseam, they are the best OL on the market. 1 year signings to add depth, and take pressure off the incoming Draft class makes sense. Their combination in addition with Turner would solidify the Guard position allowing Gute to spend perhaps a 1st or 2nd Round pick in 2020.

Morris Claiborne - He shook the injury bug for 30 games starting on the outside for the Jets the past 2 years. He's 30 if I remember correctly, so he should come relatively cheap given the talent. I'd make him a priority if Breeland finds money elsewhere. If not, this CB class while mostly unheralded, is deeper than advertised, a 4th to 6th Rounder could yield some good depth.

Conley already signed with the Jaguars.

Claiborne has been an average cornerback at best. It would make way more sense to bring Breeland back.

I am trying to figure out why there is no market for Breeland. He was a good player before the last off-season. Even the contract he signed that got voided seemed under his actual value. He came to GB and after a little rocky start proved he was healthy and played well. With how many bad cbs are out there I would expected him to have a deal by now

I missed the news on Conley going to the Jags.

I'm not sure why this board had turned against Lang and Sitton so much. Despite the injuries, they still were starting caliber Guards, 6 Pro Bowls between the two. With the exception of Turner, our current Guards would be longshots to start anywhere in the league. 1 year deals so we don't have to find an entire OL in this year's Draft is a logical solution.

Breeland I always expected to be a Week 2/3 FA. This isn't news to me. The longer he's out there, the better the situation financially for the Packers.

Neither Lang nor Sitton drew any interest from their current teams, both of which are in need of offensive line help. The reasons are the usual suspects; age and recent injury history. Their bodies are breaking down after several years in the NFL trenches, and there's no good reason to expect it to get better from here on in.....

I like Breeland, and would like to see him back in Green & Gold......For the right price.

Packers fans have to finally stop advocating for brining players back the team deemed not good enough to retain in the first place years ago. That's not the way to build a championship roster.

My best guess is he's asking for more than anyone wants to pay.

Even in their "broken" state, they are better than the youthful jobbers we have for depth. I'm not expecting them to lead us to a championship on their merits alone but relying on their skills for maybe 25-50% of the offensive snaps per game is value.

I prefer the Packers to add offensive linemen the team can rely on for 100% of the snaps instead of bringing back former players on the decline.

There is a market, but like PackerDNA just said, probably nobody has made him an acceptable offer yet, which leads me to believe that the Packers may be out of the running.

Take it for what it is, but he posted on his Twitter account earlier:

Might mean he is thinking about KC?

Seems odd no other GM, so far, has made that same assessment and signed them.

My guess is that their respective careers are over. Time will tell.

FWIW:

T.J. Lang appeared in 6 games as a member of the Detroit Lions last year. The last time he played in 16 games in one season was 2014.

https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/L/LangT.20.htm

As for Sitton, he played in one game for the Miami Dolphins least season. He last played in 16 games in one season in 2015.

https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/S/SittJo20.htm

Great careers for both men, but clearly they are no longer durable, dependable commodities. A sad fact of life in the NFL.

Age and injuries aside, I wouldn't be in favor if bringing Josh Sitton back due to one of the reasons he was cut in the first place, his reported openly bad attitude in and out of the locker room concerning play calling and the way the Packers were dealing with his contract. While MM and most of the staff that was around when Sitton played in Green Bay are gone, I still think the way he left Green Bay, should be enough to keep him from being asked to come back.

Billy Turner was signed to most likely play RG and I think as long as he is healthier this year, Lane Taylor will be just fine at LG. If the Packers are looking for depth on the OL, I would rather see them get younger, not older.

Randall Cobb in Texas today, to visit with the Cowboys.

Former Packers’ WR Jordy Nelson is scheduled to visit the Seahawks on Tuesday, per source. They were interested in Nelson last year; GM John Schneider loves Nelson.

I too want to have hope, but outside of Bakh, Linsley, Turner, and Bulaga I would prefer a fresh star for the rest of the OL. With these FA pickups I'm hoping for some 2-3 more guys added through the Draft or FA.

EDIT - FWIW Sitton was probably only saying what most of the locker room was already feeling, particularly AR.

Once again, I'm absolutely in favor of adding more quality depth on the offensive line but signing Lang and/or Sitton is not the smart way to go.

Ugh. If any of these two sign with them I'm going to be sick.
