Holy Crap... I LOVE Gute! All solid (not spectacular) signings that greatly plug holes in the roster. This will allow the draft to be "fluid" and take BPA rather than NEEDING to plug a hole. I can, now, see Gute trading back in round 1, amassing more high-round picks for '19 and '20 and still improving the roster.

Turner WAS a project... big, light on his feet who needed to get stronger and learn some technique. GB NOW has a ready-to-start RG who will move out to RT if/when necessary.

This year I’d try to stay in that 5-8M range where you can have 4 or 5 above average proven veterans filling all these holes. That allows us to get super creative and either trade into the top 7 ahead of Detroit (please dear Lord let one of the top Defenders slide just a hair) OR trade back a smidge and then attack rounds 1-2-3 with 5 picks before the NE compensatory selection games begin.

Go Gute! Don’t fire til you see the whites of their eyes boys! You’ll waste your musket balls! Let’s get multiple kill shots all at once!

Looks like 5-8 million isn't going to get you above average any more.

depending on who is still there at #12, I'd like them to stay where they are until the moment of. If it gets crazy and Oliver, White, Ferrel, Burns are all off the board, move down. But don't take your foot off the gas on defense. If those guys are gone and DK is there, it'd be tough to pass. But I like what they are doing on defense and I would enjoy if they kept it going.

you could say that AR is a >95% pure version of copper while bortles is <60% pure, this does occur in nature with certain elements.

Ahhh, but when you trade copper, you're only trading the copper portion. So, to your example, would we be trading Rodgers' left hand for all of Bortles?

i was just bustin your chops a wee bit.

as i only really watch packer games, and from what i've heard, i'd think a left pinky toe would get you bortles

For all those people who didn't think Gute would make a splash in the Free Agent Market.

Starting to feel like we might be having a drunken sailor moment now that some of these contracts are coming in...

Did we really just sign $100+million at lb?!?

Yup. While I haven't done the math, but in today's cap $$'s that is probably less than what we invested in Matthews and Perry in their last contracts.

Today is really throwing my Mock draft for the Packers for a loop!

No longer is the need to prioritize OLB and probably not even S or G.

Love it!

Sure did:

Za'Darius Smith - 4yr/$66M w/ $20M signing bonus

Preston Smith - 4yr/$52M w/ $16M guaranteed

Adrian Amos - 4yr/$37M w/ $35M paid out in first 2 years. (Russ Ball you sneaky devil)

$155M on the defense. Wow.

So you don't have any problem with the fact GB didn't sign anybody yet, and all of your posts about not signing anybody yet are about what exactly?

I wouldn't call it negativity as I'm typically one of the optimistic guys usually. I've just seen this play out plenty of times, so I'm keeping my expectations severely low. Lower your expectations and you're never disappointed.

As for Graham, we'll see how this year goes, personally I wish we kept Cook.

With respect, like duh with a capital D. No one is saying to throw money left and right and sign everyone, I don't think any one is suggesting that. My point wasn't in regards to this first day of FA as I've mentioned, this is just how I view the front office based off years of watching them. I just have low expectations in regards to who we're going to sign.

Ha! That's the same one Nagler used for his Twitter! My comment was in regards to how we go at FA in general, not simply the first day of FA. It would seem we're at an impasse my friend. Only time will tell I suppose.

...I mean at this point I kinda feel I stated myself clearly.

Maybe an obvious statement, but 4 years seems to be the window they're setting for this team to compete at a legit run to the Superbowl. These contracts, plus Rodgers. Appears they're doing what they can on the side of the ball Rodgers can't control. I like it.

Worth noting that NONE of this is legal contract until FA officially starts and ink wets paper. This could happen, but likely won't. Agents aren't keen on keeping clients who can't keep their word. And teams don't like trades other teams reneg on when talking at a later date.

I wonder how much this was Barr getting cold feet vs. Jets maybe not offering him the money he wanted because going to up their money to Bell
Or just a way to get the Vikings to flinch and pay him what he wanted? I'm sure he had every intention to sign with the Jets, but guessing the Vikings really didn't want to lose him, saw the Jets offer and said "ok, we can pay that".

two things for what it's worth from Colin (I know) 1) Anthony Barr didn't really fit with the Jets system the way they were going to use him 2) Le'Veon Bell ends up with the Bears :poop:

Given the depth of edge rusher at the top of this draft, I still think it might be an excellent idea to go with an OLB. Pro Football Focus noted in their comments on the signing that Za'Darius can be moved inside and out and that his best pass rushes last season came on the inside vs guards. So there's no real reason that the Smiths can't play on the field at the same time as someone like Brian Burns.

Granted, my hope is that somehow Ed Oliver is there for the Packers at 12.

yes, and then followed it up with complaining GB hadn't been signing anybody within the first few hours of legal tampering opening up. I get it. LOL
