Well, one would hope not. The Packer's next 5 games should be against easier teams, well all except one. So that number should go up. but even at 4.5 ppg,(6.8 if you take out the Philly game) that's not winning by much.

Although a 1 point win counts just as much as a 50 point win, I happen to agree with you here *gulp*. If you look at Point differential over the long haul, it can be a telling stat as to just how strong a teams wins have been. Obviously, factoring in a teams strength of schedule should be looked at as well.
  1. Ravens (9-2) +184
  2. Patriots (10-1) +183
  3. 49'ers (10-1) +169

It's insane how far ahead of everyone that the Patriots are in this stat since 2002, but probably also helps to explain why they have been so successful over that time period.

Well with the Patriots, you have to look at who they have played. 92 of those 183 have been against the Jets and the Dolphins. And the Ravens, 91 have been against the Bengals and Dolphins. Matter of fact, the Dophins account for 102 of those points between those two teams. And they both still have to play them again.

This is fairly obvious, but when you've won 10 or more games every season since 2002, that's going to help your point differential. Because every win pads your stats. The only way that gets counteracted really is getting blown out.

Yet the 8-3 Packers sit with only a +16 point differential.

Which is why I said...

I'll give you a hint, it's much less than 17. Specifically, only 7 times since 1970, and it hasn't happened since 2007. Meanwhile, the 2-0 team winning the 3rd matchup happens much more frequently, last happening in the 2018-19 playoffs when the Saints won the season series 2-0 against the Panthers and then again beat them in the playoffs.

So again, "hard to beat a team 3 times in a season" = total myth. Statistically the opposite of true.
I have believed that for a long time after my father told me and he turned out correct. Funny

One thing I recently thought of about the patriots super bowl wins. Two of them were the result of the worst play calls in super bowl history.

How many times have you seen Brady pulled in the 4th when the Pats are up by 20? Against the Dolphins first game Brady is passing the ball for a TD with 2:15 left in the game. Seriously, can you even name the Pats backup QB without looking it up? I couldn't.

They've been blown out twice too. It also indicates they've won a lot of close games. Which is not an entirely bad thing. But if you're concerned about the team, you're not the only one. This looks like yet another Packer team that will likely make the playoffs, but will be unable to parlay it into a championship. I guess considering the past several seasons, making the playoffs is a big step in the right direction. Even though I expected them to win the division this year.

The bad thing is Rodgers has been healthier than he's been in years, about as good as we can hope for. But the offense is still far from elite.

making the playoffs this year is a win in my book. They're certainly better than they showed on Sunday night, and like all of us knew to start the year and pretty much every week since. They have areas that need better players and some players need more consistency.

I'm not going to discount them from any post season push, as they have shown they can play at a pretty high level. I'm also not going to predict a strong post season push as they've shown they are playing with lesser talent at certain positions and have a problem with consistency. 1st year staff has a lot of experience to gain as well. If things line up well, sure they can go far.

I know i'll be tuned in to see how it plays out. Just hope there aren't any more like last Sunday :)

We should start a new thread looking into the merits of firing all three coordinators after the season. All three have underperforming units and can't seem to make in-game adjustments.

We go from 6-9-1 and minus 24 in point differential to so far 8-3 and plus 16. You truly see no difference?
My fault posting without quoting. This is what my post was in response to. We have been better this year and the one I quoted wants to discuss firing our OC and DC. Reminds me of the Chargers firing Marty after going 14-2.

My response had nothing to do with where we are in NFC. Only to the over reaction to the post I didn’t quote. ( I blame liquid libations).

I wish we played the Vikings this Sunday instead of the Giants, so you Minny homers can get off this board.

Kirk Cousins scares nobody....I'm predicting he's sacked 4 times.

Kyle Rudolph is supremely overrated. He's not going to have a monster game against anyone.

Adam Thielen is struggling with an injury(as well as my fantasy team)

We stop Dalvin Cook and we win the North.

I like the smokestacks blowing cheese puffs. That toy would sell this Christmas better than scooters, micro pets and Lionel trains combined!
Let me know when we can pre-order! Count me in!

That reminded me to vent about "cheese puffs". Ever been to a Packer game and have to sit behind someone wearing a cheese hat or some other extra large object on their head? I always wondered what it would be like and at the Lions game this year I finally found out, it is annoying as hell. Big tall man, already blocking the view for most people, plops a big wide foam wedge of fake cheese on his head and makes watching the game a constant battle of view angles.

I guess while I am on the subject of "fan etiquette", I would be remiss to not mention my #1 pet peeve with some fans. This is not timing their beer/bathroom runs with what is going on down on the field. If I have to get up and make my way down a very tight path, blocking peoples views as I go, I wait until the end of a play or even better, a timeout. Some fans have no common sense, it can be 3rd and goal and Rodgers can be in his snap count and some fan will decide THAT is the best time to head for a beer or ****.

Heck my wife does it all the time at home in front of the TV at the worst possible time! She’ll suddenly want to ask me a ridiculous question while we’re lined up to go for it on 4th down! (I’m talking the game here...)
So don’t sweat it as long as you bring me a beer n brat you’ll get instant forgiveness.

Those early picks have been huge. But you still have to hit on them. Ask the Cleveland Browns.

True, we have to give them credit for taking the right guys. But because of our continued success we haven't been in the position to draft these top players in several years.

The last one I could is now starting for SF. ;)

Me too. At the start of the season I had no clue what to expect with a new HC and offensive philosophy. I seriously thought we'd be 9-7 at best.

I think the Panthers and Eagles head-scratching losses all but guarantees us a Home game against the Bears in the Wildcard if we're the #3 Seed. The Vikings will play the Cowboys in Jerry's World where hopefully they win and perform a miracle and knock off the 49ers.

I think now that the Playoffs is coming more into focus the NFC North title becomes all the more important. If we're the 5th seed it all but guarantees us a 2nd matchup against the 49ers in San Francisco after they've had a week to prepare. I don't like those odds.

Are the Seahawks going to forfeit? Because that’s the only way the Bears make the playoffs before they do.

The Bears are on the far outside of the stratosphere looking in. It’s highly unlikely they make the playoffs.
Not only would the Bears need a 4-0 Win run to finish, they’d need help from Seattle, GB, MN and the Rams to all spiral completely out of the season with all or mostly losses.
Remember only 2 of this group (assuming 49ers take their division) will get a wildcard. Not to mention a few others are still mathematically alive.

My bad, I was looking at the list of teams and I started too low. Just replace Bears with Vikings. The Seahawks moving on to face the 49ers in the Divisional is the best thing we could hope for. If we can take care of business in New Orleans then hopefully Seattle comes to us in the NFCCG.
