Reviving an old thread to bring up that the Packers are kicking tires on Mike Gesicki and AJ Green.
Gesicki is getting $10.931Mil in '22, which translates to $640k/game. It appears Miami wants a TE that can block more than a receiving TE... does Gute throw a late-rounder and Lewis for Gesicki offer? Does weakening (even more) our seldom-used running game & improving our pass-game (slightly?) make sense? Gesicki wants to get paid in '23 (guessing $13-$15Mil/yr since he's already 10th highest paid at $10.931Mil)... as does Tonyan. I'm saying "no thanks" to Gesicki trade.Reviving an old thread to bring up that the Packers are kicking tires on Mike Gesicki and AJ Green.
I'm of the thought that they should add two people. Either two trades, or a trade and a free agent like OBJ later. You bringing one guy who isn't even a top level receiver or even just a pretty good one and what does your opponent do? Same thing to do when we had Adams in the playoffs-double team your new number one because you're not worried about anybody else.
The problem is, whomever you bring in has to somehow establish chemistry with Rodgers and the Offense. I don't see that happening in time to save this season. They should have made moves before the start of the season, not once they are 3-4.Two moves makes sense to me. TE and WR. That would be a win now move. Figure out who we're paying in the offseason.

Too funny, I was just reading an article on one of Aarons favorite WR's!Shoot the way Aaron is complaining short of bring Adams back the most likely well received would be his Kumerow back LOL
Very true. I can only speak for me, but I had this WR group waaaaaaay overrated. I thought Lazard would rise to a true #1, that Cobb would be Cobb, and that Doubs would have a coming out party. I was only right about Cobb, and now he's out.The problem is, whomever you bring in has to somehow establish chemistry with Rodgers and the Offense. Agree. At some point and it may be coming soon (after the Buffalo game) the Packers organization will need to determine if they are contenders or pretenders for 2022. If they feel that they are contenders, than we may see them try to improve the roster on Monday and Tuesday. Pretenders? Might start trading guys to save future cap and pick up some draft assets. If we're not making moves to add, we should be selling assets (Jones, who is set to make a TON of money next year) for picks. The Eagles are LOADED with talent right now and have two firsts next year even after their big trade today. Status quo isn't going to get us anywhere IMO.

Names please. While Gesicki would immediately become the best receiving tight end on the roster I don't think he's that much of a difference maker to significantly improve the offense for this season. Therefore I would like the Packers to pass on him as well, especially considering how much cap space it would take to add him to the roster.
I would prefer the Packers to keep Jones and try to restructure his deal in the offseason. It might be smart to trade away some other players before the deadline though.
The following players are UNrestricted Free Agents in '23 & can get Franchise or Transition Tagged OR a shiny, new, expensive contract from GB or any other team. In order from what I would consider highest contract value to lowest:Names please.
I'd say keep em and let them become free agents. Honestly I could see them trading Crosby if someone is in dire need of a kicker. The following players are UNrestricted Free Agents in '23 & can get Franchise or Transition Tagged OR a shiny, new, expensive contract from GB or any other team. Jenkins
Lazard
Amos
Tonyan
Crosby
Reed
...and the rest: Lewis, Cobb, Watkins, Wilson, Leavitt, Ford, Nixon.
Jenkins can extend long-term & push out big numbers into '24-'27 if Gute wants to.
Lazard thru Reed I doubt GB will have the cap room to re-sign so any of them are trade-bait IF Gute decides to try to get a pick or 2 for them. Besides Jenkins & Amos do any have value more than a late rounder? If no, keep them for now, & get a '24 Comp pick for them after they leave this offseason.
What about a starting caliber O lineman? Two moves makes sense to me. TE and WR. That would be a win now move. Figure out who we're paying in the offseason.
Or they could include one or more of these guys in a trade now. The only untouchables, IMO, are Jenkins and Amos. And it may force Gluten to finally find the next kicker, although Crosby isn't expensive and seems to be defying the aging process. The following players are UNrestricted Free Agents in '23 & can get Franchise or Transition Tagged OR a shiny, new, expensive contract from GB or any other team. I don't think I have ever seen a kicker traded... let alone in season.I'd say keep em and let them become free agents. Honestly I could see them trading Crosby if someone is in dire need of a kicker.
And I don't think someone would trade for a kicker who is already past his "sell by" date.I don't think I have ever seen a kicker traded... let alone in season.
I also read that they are generally calling about WRs that are on their rookie deals. Before anyone gets excited that Gute called Houston regarding Brandin Cooks... Cooks' 2023 salary of $18Mil is fully guaranteed (+ $500k roster bonus) which I don't think Gute will be able to fit into the '23 cap. Gute is working to phones, just don't know if any deals will get done before Tuesday (buying OR selling).
That's interesting Krabs and given the cap situation, makes sense. I just think that for the same reason the Packers would want someone like that, no team will let such a person go. I still like the Brandin Cooks idea, but that seems DOA due to cap.I also read that they are generally calling about WRs that are on their rookie deals.
The Vikings did a few years ago for Kaare Vedvik with the ravens for a 5th round pick lmaoooooooooI don't think I have ever seen a kicktraded... let alone in a season
Which is why the rumors of them trying to work out a deal with Pittsburgh for Claypool is the most appealing to me. 1 1/2 years left on a rookie deal and I think adding Claypool gives Rodgers and the Packers the best chance of having a decent group of WR's next season and perhaps by the end of this season. Claypool has a pretty big upside and with the crap the Steelers have at QB, I am sure he would welcome the chance to catch passes from AR, especially to boost his market value in 2024.I also read that they are generally calling about WRs that are on their rookie deals.
