The Lions had been trying to trade Ebron since the season ended and didn't find any takers. He puts up solid numbers but doesn't seem to be very well thought of throughout the league

He has been okay but certainly hasn' lived up to his potential. I would sign him and give him a shot. He won' command much money.

I expect Ebron to receive offers averaging several millions per season. Therefore he won't end up in green and gold.

I just took a look at the numbers for Graham (170 receptions for 2,048 yards and 18 TDs) and Ebron (161-1,822-10) over the past three seasons and was surprised they are pretty similar. Maybe he would have been a decent option at a reduced price.

Context is needed.

Graham has shown he's at his best when he's not playing as an in-line TE. So what did Seattle try to do with him? Play him as an in-line TE!

Now, I realize that Graham will not be as good as he was in New Orleans...but he was getting 25% less targets in Seattle in comparison to New Orleans. They did not use him as well as they could have. So yeah, Graham and Ebron have similar numbers the past 3 years, but that was because of how Graham was used. Ebron on the other hand, is undersized, a subpar athlete for the TE position, and wouldn't help us out that much at all. Graham is a much better TE.

As I've mentioned Graham is definitely the better choice but Ebron, while not living up to being selected 10th by the Lions, is a talented tight end as well. His numbers in 2016 would have tied the Packers franchise record for receptions in a season by a tight end with his yards being close to Finley's stats in 2011.

If by talented you mean average, then yes.

Ebron is an average, check down TE.

I consider Ebron a slightly above average tight end. He would have definitely been an upgrade over the players on the Packers roster last season.

What about him is above average?

It's not his blocking. It's not his YAC. It's not his YPC. It's not his athleticism.

He would have been an upgrade for us, because our TE's sucked. At least Bennett was good at blocking (which was big for us), but nobody else was good at anything.

Ebron finished within the top 12 in receptions and receiving yards among tight ends in both of the past two seasons. Slightly above average among starters.

1) Context, like always, is needed.

2) You didn't answer anything I asked you.

3) Are those the only stats that matter? What about TD's? YPC? YAC? Catch %?

Melvin could end up being a much better “buy” than guys like Trumaine Johnson. But he’s a risk in that he doesn’t have a track record of strong play that extends beyond last season. Regardless, I would like the move a lot and hope they add more at corner besides.
