So, you want them to use a draft pick on a TE that can stretch the field when they just spent $10M/year on a guy to do just that? How about drafting a TE that can block?

Why not both?

Graham is a short term solution. We should be looking to draft a replacement.

Agreed, but if they move forward with Matthews, I can see that coming through a rotational guy. Most likely a first round rookie, drafted to eventually replace Clay.

I don't expect the Packers to sign an edge rusher in free agency capable of replacing Matthews either, especially as the pickings at the position are extremely thin this offseason.

The problem at OLB is we like impact guys. Clay and Perry are solid when healthy but rarely are fully healthy and they are getting older and are expensive. The young guys are just unproven. It is a bad year to need an OLB because free agency and the draft are weak

In my opinion there are definitely some impact edge rushers available in the draft. I agree about free agency though.

Packers retain Joe Callahan. Hundley will now for sure be getting traded or cut. If we get something for him, that will be amazing! And Gut instantly becomes the best rookie GM for convincing a team to give us ANYTHING for him.

I don't consider the Packers retaining Callahan as a sign the Packers will move on from Hundley.

Keep our WR's (unless you can trade Cobb for a 1st rounder now because his contract will be looking cheap soon) and draft our next wave of WR's over the next two years... There are some good WR's in this draft that can be gotten even into the 4th and 5th rounds.

There's absolutely no way the Packers will be able to acquire a first round pick for Cobb. Unfortunately the talent level at wide receiver in this year's draft isn't impressive at all.

Nick Perry will probably be playing more edge rusher from the dline than playing linebacker (never was really sure why TT drafted him to a defense that he didn't fit well in) so i count him as a DE more than an OLB (though to be honest I don't really count him that much since he'll spend most of the time injured). Outside of Matthews I can't think of any impact players in the linebacking group. Problem with relying on free agency for corners is that they get EXPENSIVE very quickly.

I fully expect Perry to mostly line up at outside linebacker next season once again, especially after the team signed Wilkerson.

Is it possible that we’re converting one of our own to play in the slot? I always liked the idea of having a bigger guy like Morgan to cover underneath. Morgan could be that guy. He runs aboutva 4.5X40 with 6.87 3 cone and a 39+ vertical. He’s no slouch In size at
6’1 1/2 209lbs so he can be physical and redirect off the LOS.

Burnett doesn't excel in coverage though. In addition he's set to become a free agent in few hours.

Based on what I'm reading, our CB situation may not be that bad.

The depth chart currently includes King, Rollins, Hawkins, Pipkins and Waters. That's definitely a group in desperate need of an upgrade.

Here is an interesting dilemma for you guys. Would you cut Cobb if that means we can sign Fuller with his cap space?
Looking at our cap situation right now, I feel like for any quality FA signing we will have to cut either Cobb, Matthews or Bulaga considering we have to factor in the 10M for Arod and about 6 for the draft picks.

The Packers can structure Rodgers' contract in a way that his cap hit doesn't increase over the next two years. This year's rookie class will only account for an additional $4 million of cap space.

PSA:

A DE in a 4-3 is traditionally an Edge. An OLB in a 3-4 is traditionally an Edge.

An edge is an edge is an edge! Sometimes they rush from a 2 point stance, sometimes with a hand in the ground. Don't overthink it by saying Perry is a DE or an OLB. He is an edge.

3 years for a max value of 30M for Trent Murphy. That's stupid money for a guy who is coming off injury and was using during the seasons that he produced.

Just to clarify the Bills signed Murphy to that contract.

I fully expect perry to be injured for much of the season and, while playing linebacker, just be an edge rusher than happens to start the play without his hand on the ground.

Honey Badger is available now from Arizona. We need impact guy like that on defense. Fun to watch. Hard hitter. Would love to see it. But injure prone. Probably crazy expensive.

Hmmm, Ebron released by Lions. I would have much rather had Ebron on a 3 year deal than Graham, tbh. Bad timing? What are others' thoughts RE: Ebron vs. Graham?

I definitely prefer having Graham on the roster over Ebron.

Assuming Ebron will be significantly cheaper than Graham (maybe an incorrect assumption, the heck do I know?), would you want Graham at 11 mil over Ebron at say 6 or 7?

The Packers are paying Graham an average of $10 million per season. To be honest I'm still undecided on whether I like the move. I wouldn't have been excited about the Packers adding Ebron though no matter if he would have presented a cheaper option.

It's entirely possible that I'm just smitten with his youth. Not too often a young guy like that becomes available.

I just took a look at the numbers for Graham (170 receptions for 2,048 yards and 18 TDs) and Ebron (161-1,822-10) over the past three seasons and was surprised they are pretty similar. Maybe he would have been a decent option at a reduced price.

Eric Ebron just isn't that good.

He's put up pretty solid numbers. Crazy he was the 10th overall pick. Hard to even crack the first round as a TE let alone the top 10. Lot of potential. Hasn't lived up to it yet, but he's only 24 years old. Still a baby.

He has been okay but certainly hasn' lived up to his potential. I would sign him and give him a shot. He won' command much money.

Eric Ebron’s elite athleticism was always a myth. He’s small and fast in a straight line. That about sums it up.

If memory serves me correct, Ebron wasn't always the healthiest of guys either. Really doesn't matter, he isn't coming to Green Bay and even had we not signed Graham, I wouldn't be very interested in him. However, I will be curious what someone signs him for.
