just speculation on my part but i think rod was done when jordy left, getting rid of kumerow was the last straw. anyway...rod doesn't have his heart in it anymore and this pack team will have to go on without him.
He sure looked to me like his heart was in it last year. He looked and sounded very happy at the beginning of the season. What changed? He cleaned up his mechanics and the offense played great last season.

I agree that the narrative that Rodgers has had zero help is certainly not accurate.

But even in some of those positions you've , the Packers have had big weaknesses that opponents exploited in big games aka Rick Wagner, Kevin King, etc.

Coaching also makes a difference, and guys like Dom Capers, Steve Slocum, Shawn Mennenga, and Mike Pettine have been out schemed in these games. Even LaFleur, as much as I love and think he can be a very great coach at the top of his game, made a very bad move to kick that FG. Coaches like Tony Dungy, Bellichek, Harbaugh, and Reid would not have done that.

I think the FO and coaches here do at least 90% great things to put us in position to be one game away from the SB, but it's always that last 10% they fail on that keeps us from getting over the hump.

The FG is a cute talking point, but it isn’t why GB lost.

Also, using Andy Reid as an example for coaches not making mistakes in big games is HILARIOUS. Have you been following football for all of 3 years?

So I have a question. How many of you expected Rodgers to retire as a Packer?

I’m curious because I never did. The drafting of Love meant, to me, that Rodgers was going to be traded after the 2021 season, or 2022 at the latest. Now, Rodgers used that same logic. He’s even said so. I understand why he’s frustrated about it, I probably would be too. Wouldn’t have taken it as far as he has, but I get it.

So if things are accelerated a year or two sooner than they would’ve, it isn’t the end of the world. Rodgers being traded was always going to happen, if we’re being honest with ourselves.

If you believe the reports, he was happy and putting on his best show because he was promised he would be traded at the end of the season. ;)

I mean I want to thank Aaron for all that he did during the season to drive up his trade value, but this crap he is pulling now, its driving it back down! :D

OK....I will give you a few.
  1. Rodgers says "I am not playing for the Packers anymore, I am officially retired".
  2. If #1 doesn't happen, 2021 Rodgers gives us the best shot at a SB, no doubt. However, that leaves 2022 and beyond potentially being less of a chance.
So let me ask you and then I get to listen. Had nothing changed in the off season, would Aaron Rodgers be the Packers QB in 2021? Yes? OK, what changed, that now puts that in....Jeopardy?

If above was yes and Aaron has another 2021 season like 2020, is Aaron Rodgers the QB for 2022?

If Aaron Rodgers wins a SB in 2021 or 2022 and is still playing at a high level, who is the QB for the Packers in 2023?

On number 1, well ok, not impossible nor unprecedented for a QB to retire in his mid to late 30s, but in most cases that only happens if they get forced by injury to retire early as in the cases of Steve Young, Troy Aikman, Kurt Warner or most recently Andrew Luck. Always a risk, but I don't usually see GMs offloading their franchise QBs even in old age just because they fear an injury might force them to retire, other than maybe the Colts with Peyton Manning. But assuming Rodgers isn't prematurely forced into retirement, there's little to no reason to think he plans on doing that right now.

On number two, well no I can't know whether Rodgers level of play would suddenly drop off this year, next, or the year after. Why? Because some of our younger guys like MVS and Tonyan stepped it up and proved they were better than their useless predecessors like Allison and Graham, and Rodgers is now comfortable in LaFleur's offense, and LaFleur doesn't use a dunderhead scheme like that garbage Mike McCarthy was running around here his last year.

Good question. The dedication last year might have been part of the process of him digesting the whole situation. Almost like how grief has different stages. His first reaction was to prove himself. Now he wants some revenge.

A lot of people have said, due to cap reasons, that this might be the last year with Rodgers. Maybe that's worked its way back to Rodgers' ears, it's not exactly a secret. So he wants to break up with the team before they have a chance to break up with him. The pre-emptive breakup.

It was a bad call and it did not give us a chance to win, and I'm not going to ever change my mind on that. Calling a spade a spade here.

And yeah I'm pretty sure Andy Reid doesn't do that. I mean, not that he doesn't make mistakes because he does, but pretty sure in that particular situation he leaves the offense on the field.

I hated the Love pick, about lost my **** that night. However, when I came back down to earth and thought about it, it made a lot of sense. I think Gute would have preferred to do it a year or two later, but when an opportunity fell in his lap, one that he may not see for awhile again, he had to quickly make a decision. He didn't have a crystal ball to figure out what kind of 2020 Rodgers would have, nor one to tell him how Rodgers would react to the Love pick. However, more importantly, he doesn't have a crystal ball into how Love will develop, he merely selected a guy that he thought potentially could take over when the time was right. He still doesn't know, yet Aaron and some fans seem convinced that it was a move to discredit and push Rodgers out of Green Bay. It was insurance is all.

Well, if we are to believe recent reports he probably should have known because Rodgers got all pissy when they let Van Pelt go and cut Kumerow.

I agree with you about 95%. I'm willing to allow that there may have been a little bit of Gute wanting Love to be his guy. I do think most of the Love pick was because of Rodger's "down" years in the prior seasons. If Rodgers had had an MVP season in 2019 he has a brand new contract now and Love is holding a clipboard somewhere else because I don't believe there is any way Gute would have drafted him.

It was a two possession game with the FG or without. Could it have been a difference? Maybe. But was it a significant difference? Absolutely not. That’s not why they lost.

Reid is notorious for bad decisions at the end of games. Football has existed for him prior to Mahoney.

I think the difference between you and I, is that you seem to think that the Packers just have to do whatever it takes to keep Rodgers on the field and all is well. While I think you have to keep a mindful eye as to the future and at what point that the best decision for the team is keeping him or moving on from him.

I'm perfectly okay establishing a precedent in which a multiple- MVP QB feels entitled. What cataclysmic future do you think is going to occur if the GM discusses draft picks with the QB?

The main difference I'm seeing is that having an hour long discussion with your superstar about a draft pick doesn't really seem like that big a deal.

How would posters here feel if I said to Shaggy, LTF, Poppa et al "You know, I have been in this forum awhile, have posted a ton and have a ton of positive ratings, I should get special treatment over the rest of these guys."

*sits quietly and waits to get traded to the Bears Fan Forum*

Shaggy has said repeatedly "we are not trading Poker" He is ours for the foreseeable future. I don't know what kind of commitment you want from him. He has offered to extend your membership which is what you wanted in the first place but now you are not happy with it.

Of course we don't know how that new member is going to work out. We knew he was a project and it would take a while for him to be ready and we also knew that letting him join might **** you off but it was an opportunity that we couldn't let pass. I suppose the tantrum you threw when Brandon left should have been a red flag but somehow we figured you would honor your contract anyway.

I suppose you are wondering why I am using the word "we" Well I hate to tell you this but even though I am not the owner of the site or one of the mods I was consulted on this decision. I'm sorry if this offends you but I think you have earned the right to know.

As far as a trade goes since all we could expect to get right now, and you should know that your trade value will never be higher, is a half empty bottle of whiteout that has been siting in the back of a desk drawer and a few old ink blotters we are probably going to keep you. But you should know that if your performance falls up your *** is out of here. We can do that you know.

Why? What is happening with Rodgers right now is completely off the field related. He is allowing his off the field personality dictate his behavior. This has nothing to do with his on the field performance or behavior. If this goes South and it seems to be, Rodgers will always be remembered as one of the greatest on the field QB's that the Packers have had. Off the field, he won't be viewed in that light.
Of course you conveniently ignore a specific example I gave you from another superstar level player that exhibited similar behavior.

Some of the same ones that dismissed it when people have taken shots at Rodgers' personal life in the past are using it against him now because it's convenient.

Digging deep in the barrel for everything right now.

You’re about to get blocked for trolling and harassment. You’ll never get a straight answer from him either.

Right. All Rodgers is doing is making the Packers put their chips in the middle of the table. Either pull the trigger and move on to Love like you clearly plan to do, or extend me and re-commit.

Doesn't seem completely unreasonable.

I think the reason why the Packers are flipping their lids right now with a very public love affair with Rodgers is because they're nervous as hell about Jordan Love not being the guy.

I'll be honest with you, between you, Sunshine and Carolina, I have been going back and forth on this all day and pretty much saying the same thing. So if I missed one of your points, do take it personally, who is this Superstar level player I ignored?

You didn't miss the post, you deleted that specific part out of what you quoted me on. I'm sure you won't have a tough time finding it.

Is that what the reports are? I've heard he was mad at Gute because Gute had supposedly promised to trade him, but I didn't hear a timeline. Yeesh, you have to buy the guy a ticket out of town to get him to put in a great season? That doesn't really sit well with me if that's the case.

Maybe.

But also maybe, they’re trying to drive the price up. If I have something you really want, and I tell you it’s not for sale, are you going to just walk away, or maybe try a more valuable offer for it?

Sticking with your poker analysis. The good news, they never were planning on pushing their chips all the way in, at least not for a few years, so they still have time to do that. Why let an over eager player dictate when or how much you put in the middle? If Aaron wants to fold his hand, sit and watch, he can, that is his option right now. However, he doesn't get paid. If he wants to play, I guess he is going to have to toss his ego into the pot and play a few more hands to see how it all works out.

Sorry, I was just throwing sh*t at the wall to see if it sticks, seems like that is how the Aaron Rodgers saga is being run. ;)

My question is this - Big bad Aaron Rodgers, Mr. Know it all, Mr. It wasn't my fault. If my QB doesn't at that point when it becomes 4th down, if he doesn't demand that he can win it and scream and holler to the mountain tops WE ARE GOING FOR THE WIN! then said QB is a wuss. If he is so damn smart and all knowing, he should have demanded that they go for broke. But he didn't, did he. I'm pretty damn sure that Favre would have had the sack to do it along 4 or 5 other QB's that have moxie. He has none. He blames and whines. Why would he respect a coaches decision then when he could blame everybody else later?

maybe he knew it was his last year? sounds logical. also, let me throw out another theory out there. he took them that far only to sabotage the chances of going to the SB last year. gotta think about it, he had so many chances and opportunities to get it done but just like that he failed. also, and this rift between the office didn't just start that would cause him to want to be traded or retire. it all makes sense now but like i said just speculation on my part.
