the bengals or jets are mine. lol
Won't happen. Rodgers will threaten not to report and they won't give up assets if they are afraid he won't play for them. I know that gives you plenty of ammo in your anti-Rodgers crusade, but it's what would happen.

They tried trading up 2 times and couldnt agree..so next best player in their board was love

I hated the Love pick, about lost my **** that night. However, when I came back down to earth and thought about it, it made a lot of sense. I think Gute would have preferred to do it a year or two later, but when an opportunity fell in his lap, one that he may not see for awhile again, he had to quickly make a decision. He didn't have a crystal ball to figure out what kind of 2020 Rodgers would have, nor one to tell him how Rodgers would react to the Love pick. However, more importantly, he doesn't have a crystal ball into how Love will develop, he merely selected a guy that he thought potentially could take over when the time was right. He still doesn't know, yet Aaron and some fans seem convinced that it was a move to discredit and push Rodgers out of Green Bay. It was insurance is all.

So if the Packers cut him next offseason, would it be okay that the Packers didn't honor the full three years?

While that may not seem fair... it does conform with the terms of the contract that he knowingly and willingly signed.

I'm not trying to be a smarta$$ about contracts and Mondio pretty much said what I would say.

A contract is an agreement between 2 parties, which discusses many things. Did Aaron Rodgers sign a contract with a no trade or cut clause in it? No? So how would the Packers doing one of those things NOT be honoring the contract. They are within the terms of the contract.

I think some are confusing a contract with some kind of "honorable agreement" that never expires until the date at the end. Contracts give plenty of outs in them and if the player wants some outs, try to get them in the contact. If the player wants guarantees instead of outs, he might get those instead.

People who are thinking that A Rod is the innocent bystander because the Packers currently have more contractual leverage right now than him, aren't seeing contracts for what they are. BTW, who had the most leverage near the end of Aarons last contract?

Finally, if Aaron gets his way and forces a trade.....will he make more money?
Like I said, in any real life situation, people with leverage or perceived leverage try to leverage their employer for what they want. Sometimes it backfires just like it could backfire on Rodgers, but it's the reality of it and you're in some black and white alternate universe where supposedly this never happens.

Happens all the time in the NBA. Only difference is that players run that league, and teams run the NFL. Guys like Rodgers, Brady, Mahomes, etc., have unique leverage that 99% of the league don't have.

My stance has been consistent from the beginning until now. I'm operating through the reality that there's plenty of blame to go around, and I'm fighting against what is almost accepted truth that Rodgers bares all of, or the vast majority of the blame in this whole thing and trying to bring a perspective that the Packers are far from blameless. And that's something that some refuse to acknowledge.

It's Rodgers is the anti-Christ or bust.

Yep. And also, with any contract, the employee has the right to try renegotiating. It's simply the reality of the way the world works.

Sure.... but asking to renegotiate is simply that asking. The contract allows the Packers to release him if they want to... if he chooses not to play... he will be breaking the contract he signed. You may think that is an ok negotiation tactic.... Others will correctly call it a breach.

The Packers have Jordan Love. They shouldn't be worried.

I am glad that you are standing up for your convictions and I say that whole heartedly and you are doing so with clarity, so I get it and applaud you for it. I love Aaron Rodgers the football player, but Aaron Rodgers "the guy", has been slowly grading on me the last few years. I loved Favre, even looked past his waffling, but when I found out about his **** tweets, I was done. We all have a certain tipping point.

So I agree with you, the Packers have some blame here too. However, I think what they have done wouldn't have been noticed by most players/media/fans, but because its happened to Aaron Falippin' Rodgers, its a HUGE story and add to it the biggest factor.....Rodgers himself has learned how to dump gasoline on things like this and really get it blazing.

I don't look forward to Football life without Rodgers, but honestly, I look forward to talking about the X's and O's and the other 80 or so guys, than what it will take to placate what now appears to be a 5 year old sulking.

I'm not anti-Rodgers, I want him to be, and expect he will be the QB of the Packers this season again.

I shouldn't, but I am responding to and taking part in the media campaign, but I also hang on to what Rodgers said last time there was something like this. Don't believe everything the media says.

But Gute is on record saying he has a long ways to go.

Like it or not.. They want rodgers and publicly slobbed over him.

Until real convo of what was said, released texts messages showing Gute promised this or that its all speculation.

To be snippy that packers have love is fine, but what is Rodgers true stance? No one knows.

I heard today that it has bloated way out of proportion. Rodgers simply said okay to a trade to Niners and that he doesnt want Gute gone. That is all that happened..anything else is probably wrong

I never said that it didn't happen and in some situations it might be even be justified, but for posters to say that Management has all the power and its not fair, THAT isn't a fair statement, nor a correct one.

If this was 2012, Rodgers would have more leverage at the age of 27 and of course the Packers probably would be more willing to bend. However, given Rodgers age, his track history and what is best for the team, I understand the FO's position in this one particular situation.

How would posters here feel if I said to Shaggy, LTF, Poppa et al "You know, I have been in this forum awhile, have posted a ton and have a ton of positive ratings, I should get special treatment over the rest of these guys."

*sits quietly and waits to get traded to the Bears Fan Forum*

I'm curious. Have you thought about what is going through Jaire's head right now with the drafting of Stokes? I'm guessing most fans are thinking Stokes was drafted to replace King and JA is a shoe in to be resigned. Is he? What if Stokes is the real deal and King or another CB has a big year, will JA be paid top 5 CB money?

These are decisions that the FO have to make. Now maybe they view the pick the same way as most fans do, but I can't imagine it hasn't crossed their minds that it is a possibility that JA isn't' a lock to be a Packer next season. How will fans react if JA isn't resigned?

The drafting of Jordan Love suggests otherwise

Yeah it really doesn't. Since most first rounders taken at that position either A) never develop or B) turn into mediocre to average starters anyone in the business should realize that Rodgers succession plan will likely take multiple picks in the early to middle rounds just to get a quality starter. By taking Love when they did they can see if he develops while Rodgers is still under center and still be able to try again and again while Rodgers is still playing at a high level. See Ted Thompson's drafting of Rodgers and then his insurance pick of Brian Brohm in the 2008 draft. If Love doesnt look good in the next preseason expect another QB drafted in rounds 2-3 next year. That is of course assuming that Rodgers returns.

That's fair, but it's also fair to ask what else would you expect the Packers to say? That we want to move off of our MVP quarterback? That wouldn't resonate well.

The only play that the Packers have is to create a love story, no pun intended, with Rodgers. Because if he gets traded, they can always say "well we wanted him".

Amish tried making the same argument about Bakhtiari. There's only one quarterback on a field at a given time, as opposed to more than 1 tackle, multiple o-linemen, multiple DB's, etc. There's only one quarterback. And again, Gutekunst by his own admission said that his communication with Rodgers on the Love pick could have been better and should have been better.

That's from the GM. Not me.

Look we can love a player and admit that said player has warts. With Rodgers we've all known that he can hold a grudge, that he takes perceived slights personally. I mean the guy has disowned his family and wont accept their contacts or gifts. This doesnt make him a terrible person, its entirely possible that the Packers brass has not treated him unfairly and that Rodgers has managed to make mountains out of molehills. Its also possible that he thinks he'd be more likely to win a super bowl somewhere else and that he wants to try the market like Tom Brady did.

What's funny is that the Packers have admitted to more guilt than many fans are willing to admit they are responsible for.

IMO they are doing their best at diplomacy. Personally I get the sense that Rodgers does not want more money and did not feel particularly disrespected over the Love pick. IMO he likely figures that he's more likely to win elsewhere, but he needs a reason to force a trade. This disrespect narrative is just the cassus belli.

Other thing being mentioned is at the draft, teams, owners etc were informed packers are at 0 % willing to trade

The reality is this, Gute knew that at some point, it was inevitable that the face of the franchise was done in GB. Whether it was 2020 due to an injury, 2021 due to decline in play, 2022 due to cost exceeding play, etc. That time was approaching but exactly when, unknown. Heck, Rodgers could beat the odds and play past his current contract and if he is still playing well, the Packers only decision is what to do with Love.

So what does a good manager do in that situation? He starts thinking about his contingency plans and maybe even insurance. Well Gute saw both in the 2020 draft in Love and at a reasonable price. Definitely not an immediate solution or even a 1-2 year one, but a possible player within an affordable price, that just might be the insurance against the unknown.

It has been said many times, but can't say it enough, none of us are hear having this conversation if Rodgers season was pedestrian or he had gotten hurt. It wasn't and here we are, same situation magnified even more because AR wants it to be.
