The reason why Rodgers hasn't broadcast his wishes is that up until yesterday he was working behind the scenes to get an extension worked out. No need to hang out the dirty laundry while you're negotiating. I think he took a more public route yesterday because his contract talks have been a dud so far. Aging HOF qb's see their window of opportunity closing for more rings and want the franchise to maximize its commitment to win now. Certainly the 2019 draft was the exact opposite and sent an undeniable message that his tenure was going to come to a close sooner than later. Instead of squawking, AR went and had an MVP season in 2020. He proved the window of opportunity is still very open and wants that to be as long as possible at least to the end of 2024 which would wreck Jordan Love's rookie contract ability to have a starting qb at a bargain price. AR has forced Gute's hand. Either extend Rodgers and waste a first round draft pick or move on from Rodgers and throw Love into the mix before he's ready. Looks like there is no way Rodgers comes back in 2021 without an extension if any of the reporting has any validity.

The bolded part is complete conjecture. You have no idea why Rodgers waited. Also Rodgers has to come back with or without an extension. The Packers don't have to trade him even if he does holdout. A lot of starts have held out.

So now you want the Packers to be the Detroit Lions?

Barry Sanders
Calvin Johnson

That can't be the goal of the Packers FO...

I wouldnt want that but the Packers talent is significantly different than the Lions. Those two retired because the Lions were not going to win, that is vastly different than Green Bay. If Rodgers chooses to retire that is fine but I think the chances of that are under 0.001%

That's not why they retired...they retired because the FO handled their situations so poorly

I agree though he's not going to retire...but that doesn't change the fact that you said you'd be cool with it if he did

I did? I said the Packers dont have to trade him if he holdouts. And I said if he chooses to that is fine because he is a grown man and he can do what he wants. I wouldnt like it but it is what it is. Sorry if that came across like I am cool with it. Fine was probably a bad choice of words but honestly I would be fine with it because if he doesnt want to play here because we drafted a qb last year what am I supposed to do about that.

Both Sanders and Johnson said playing for a losing organization led to their early retirement. Johnson said the injuries werent worth it when he didnt see a chance to win a Super Bowl. Rodgers can't say that about the team the Packers put on the field. If he converts one of those tom Brady ints into a td the Packers are in the Super Bowl last year - I am not blaming him for losing (I am looking at you Kevin King and Aaron Jones) but they had a Super Bowl team last year.

It also seems to me like ARod is giving all the Packer fans who supported him over his career the finger.....

Aaron Rodgers bears some of the responsibility for last year‘s playoff loss and he has never to my knowledge taken any of that on says a lot about his leader ship skills or lack there of in my mind when we move on from him to me it’s no big deal it’s an evitable it will happen when it happens if he wants it to happen now fine pack up and go home but Green Bay needs to do what’s best for Green Bay my problem withThe Favre situation is Green Bay did not do what was best for Green Bay they should have gotten much more compensation for him and they would have if Ted Thompson hadn’t been scared to face him with his chosen boy

what's the alternative? bang your hands around and "demand" Gute be held accountable? I'd prefer being cool with a guy choosing to walk away if he wants to. If he doesn't want to play here, then don't.

Seriously, just this offseason Gute reworked 3?4? contracts to get under the cap and keep the band together. he kept one of our best offensive weapons and paid him a good sum to do so.

Are we supposed to be mad at GM that won't rip up a contract with 3 or 4 years remaining in order to guarantee big dollars to a guy he just guaranteed 100 million dollars to just a short time ago and is an aging QB who's at a point in his career QB's are basically on 1 and 2 year deals?

If Rodgers wants to retire that's on him. you commit that much money again to an aging QB who hasn't proven to be the most durable in the world and something happens, this team is screwed for a while.

Maybe if Gute traded Preston, got rid of a bunch of vets for picks and were loading up on capital for when Love is ready to take over, but that's not even close to what's happened. he's invested MORE in vets to keep this team together and is currently sacrificing future for the now. If Rodgers is that upset, he needs to pull his head out of wherever it is.

Are you saying that Rodgers has not been paid a huge amount of money thus far in his career?
It is my understanding that Aaron has a contract. It has yet to be fulfilled. I am certain the Green Bay Packers are planning to fulfill their side of the contract. And I hope they don't cave in. And I hope ARod is willing to pay the money that would be owed The Packers if he quit.

Oh yeah! Great relationship builder with other players! The team doesn't have to fulfill **** when it comes to contracts but those darn players better not whine!!

Broncos become a Super Bowl contender, Packers are maybe a first round out in the playoffs?

Green Bay going to need an awesome secondary cause I don't see that offense doing very well and I'm not sure Adams re-signs (for my edification, is it possible for the Packers to franchise Adams with their cap situation next year?)

Has anyone said exactly what he wants?

The Packers to make his job easier rather than relying on him to prop up the entire offense?

He's probably seen how much easier Mahomes and Brady's jobs are with the guys they've been given compared to the backup QB he was given.

Give me a break. You've seen what Brady had on offense for all those years when Rodgers had Driver, Nelson, Jennings, Jones, Cobb, Finley etc. He had a TE and a bunch of people most of the time. Then he had Welker and a bunch of people. Then a WR and a TE.

Last year was the first time Brady had a bunch of weapons and they were there before he was because they sucked for a while.

and yes, having a top 5 RB, the leagues best WR, good oline and one of the better performing TE's means he had nothing to work with.

No, or at least not publicly. Hence all the rumors flying around.

But it does appear the vast brunt of his frustration is directed at the front office, and that one way or another Jordan Love factors into it.

After the Love pick last year, I think Rodgers wanted some sign of commitment to him in the future, like an extension or something (at first). And I'm sure he didn't think he should have had to ask for one, especially after his MVP season last year. Locking down Rodgers should have been priority one for GB (in his mind, and arguably true). Rodgers has advocated or players or filling positions before, and he has almost always been rebuffed. He may be oversensitive, but I doubt that he's the only one in his shoes who would feel disrespected.

Don't know how true it is but a buddy of mine just called to say that the broncos and Packers are quietly working on a deal for Rogers behind the scenes. NFL Network maybe?
If those rumors are true, they've already missed Denver's first round pick yesterday. And if Rodgers goes to the Broncos, any future picks they have are likely to be lower,

How did this story go from, he is currently unhappy with how long this contract rework is taking, to he wants to retire because he hates being here?
