Well, now the deal is done, $176-$180 million 4 year extension. And that trash QB Hundley is gone. Congrats Aaron, you deserve every penny.

**Update** Now I'm hearing $134 million. I guess the rest is the signing bonus.

I am sleep deprived and these reports are confusing me. What is Aaron getting per year now?

This makes more sense.

James Jones big scoop and he F's it up!
Right. Jones' initial comment saying "$33.5 mil in new money" didn't makes sense no matter how you cut it.

I'm not sure what "$80 million by March" is supposed to mean. Assuming it is an extention, which makes the most sense, is that $80 mil including this year's salary under the old contract plus a $59 million signing bonus paid in cash by March or is it this year's and next year's salary under the old contract with a $38 million signing bonus and the second year salary guaranteed in March?

It's probably best to get a full breakdown from a reliable source, likely with better math skills. ;)

I want to see all the details and breakdown before I try to assess impact on team future. Management has always been pretty good with this stuff. I expect more of the same. Really helps that the team has a big cash hoard as I imagine that 80 million up front in March really helped get this deal done.

Some more details...

The four-year extension is worth $134 million, according to Rapoport. Rodgers will get $80 million of that by March. The previous record for the largest deal in the league was the five-year, $150 million extension Matt Ryan signed with the Falcons earlier this offseason that made him the first quarterback to make $30 million per season. Rodgers will make $33.5 million per season with his new deal.

Under his current contract, Rodgers has a base salary of $19.8 million for this season and $20 million for 2019. Adam Schefter of ESPN.com reports Rodgers will get $67 million before the end of 2018, and he will have around $103 million guaranteed. Ryan's deal has $100 million in guaranteed money.

Rapoport adds that there is a $57.5 million signing bonus on the deal.

Imagine being $57.5m richer in span of a day!

Wonder how they pay this much money. Just wire transfer to his checking account?

Reports are a signing bonus of about $57mm, plus $10mm salary for the season, plus a $13mm bonus at the beginning of the next league year (2019 start March 13, 2019). Gets you to $80mm by March 17th next year. Now, I'm guessing on that third part but it would make sense to spread the bonus into multiple league years.

I don't know about you, but that AR to Ryan Clark story was priceless. Telling him he missed intercepting his touchdown throw by less than an inch in the SB, absolutely great.

You will be treated ;) to an update of the salary cap status for the next two years when the details are known. Here's a taste.

The Packers current cap space according to the NFLPA sits at about $11 million. Subtract about $2 mil for players 52 and 53 and the PS, and you're at about $9 mil.

If it is a true extension, with a $38 mil signing bonus prorated over 5 years (which is the maximum proration period), that's $7.6 mil per year in additional cap cost for this year and the next.
That brings current year cap space down to around $1 - $2 mil, for use or carryover.

If the signing bonus is $59 million, you're about $3 mil over the cap for 2018. Somebody or bodies would have to be cut that perhaps had not been expected.

That's interesting and starts to make some sense. The signing bonus must be prorated over the term of the contract, but not more than 5 years.

57 / 5 = 11.4 + 10 = $21.4 2018 cap cost. That's only about a $1 mil bump over previous assuming he's now signed out to 5 or more years.

The $13 mil in March sounds like a roster bonus. That cannot be prorated; it would charged against the 2019 cap.

Based on your report and the stuff previous to it, I'm still unclear as to whether Rodgers is not under contract for 4 years or 6 years since this is not strictly speaking an extention as it is a rewrite of his last 2 years plus x years. 6 would make more sense.

We really need to see the whole enchillada to understand the implications.

I guess you can never have too much money. I’m the type of person who would take less to win rings but hey. Wth you going to with 33 mil a year?!! I’d take 25 and try to get 2-3 more rings. Applaud Aaron Rodgers and he deserves all that cash...hopefully he can get at least another ring.
