"Packers wont nickel and dime me and I'm not looking to screw the Packers" - Such a loaded statement. :sneaky:

According to Ian Rapoport there has been measurable progress for a contract extension for Aaron Rodgers over the last few days.
Which once again brings to my suspicious mind a continually nagging question that appears to have no rational answer.

Why is it that Tom Brady is almost never the highest paid player in the league? Has he ever been the highest paid player?

I may be wrong, but it sounds like Rodgers wants options that keep him the highest paid player. He certainly deserves that now, but what about down the road? If he keeps playing at the same level, better than everyone else, then pay him. I mean if Garropolo can make $137.5 mil, well, how would you feel if you were Rodgers? I give him credit for keeping it cool. Most others would have a fit.

As long as the contract goes both ways....meaning he gets paid like the 15th best QB in the league if all of a sudden that is how he plays or is injured.

Sorry, I love AR but no way do you "guarantee" a player that they will be the highest paid player during the life of the contract.

I've seen nothing to suggest Rodgers is seeking to be the highest paid player on a year to year basis.

I agree with you completely. Right now, he deserves to be paid as the best. That’s why it’s kind of puzzling he wouldn’t take a deal, better than Ryan’s, and call it a day. He’s probably looking at $110 to $120 mil in guaranteed money. Doesn’t get better than that in a game as physically risky as football.

I have posted detailed information about the myth that Brady takes significantly less money for the Patriots to stay competitive in the past on several occasions.

Once again, Brady hasn't taken less money than Rodgers. If we take a look at combined cap hits since 2008 (once Rodgers was paid as a starter) and include the next two seasons both are still under contract Rodgers will have accounted for a total of $175.4 million of cap space over 12 seasons. Over the same period the Patriots will have used $182.2 million of their cap space on Brady.

Rodgers has accounted for a total cap hit of $103.25 million over the past seven season while the Patriots have used $93.314 million of their cap space on Brady since 2011. That results in a difference of approximately $1.4 million per season, way less than you assumed (actually the Packers could have saved that money by going with a rookie kicker instead of overpaying for an average veteran).

While the media has brought that up several times Rodgers hasn't mentioned anything about it.

No, he hasn’t. I wonder if he wants an option to move to another team if he thinks there’s a better chance of getting another ring, or if he just becomes unhappy with the direction GB is taking. It doesn’t seem to be about money after all. I don’t know, probably best not to speculate like this and just let it play out.

I wonder if 4 year extension means in addition to his current contract... or if it’s really only an additional 2 years,,,,?

It must be 2 additional years, otherwise we are getting him for $8m/yr. Even at 2yrs this seems way low. Maybe incentives are easy?
