Ya, traditionally it has taken 3 years for WR's to show what a WR will do with their career - some blossom earlier than that, but most of the time it just takes time. Think Davante Adams. I heard this on a radio show a few months ago. Guys like ODB who come in and go balls out are a rarity. Obviously we want a player like that, but it doesn't come around too often.

Putting our eggs in the basket of these young players was a little risky without a veteran presence.

Jennings and Cobb only took a couple years to contribute... But Jordy took like 3.5. Driver took 4. Some of that was definitely having vets in front of them.

If we're patient with these guys (Eq, Moore, MVS, Kume) someone should become a useful player for us. Until then it's the Adams, Allison show.

It had a lot to do with better players being in front of those guys you named. The Packers used to have a log jam at receiver because they consistently valued the position more and invested more premium draft capital in the position.

"THE ADAMS AND ALLISON SHOW"? I'm sorry but any show with Allison in it isn't gonna be all that great. With Adams missing any time at all it sounds more like a NIGHTMARE.

The Packers would be fine with Allison being the starter opposite of Adams. They need to improve at slot receiver though.

The Packers might be fine with Allison but he is by no means a starting caliber NFL wr certainly not a 2 and not even a 3 on a contender.

The Packers need to upgrade from Allison. Luckily last year's draft offers 3 solid options for a more explosive dynamic player who offers far more after the catch, to step up and take Allison's spot

That is a key point. I think what we are going to find is that one of these guys is going to be pressed hard to step up and while I am confident one of them will the problem is which one. I just hope whoever it is comes into camp and blows everyone away from day one. We don't have the luxury of time or a solid group ahead of the young guys and as much as I hate to agree with Brandon he is right. Our WR group has largely been ignored for a while and we are seeing the results. Where we differ in opinion is that I think one of the three 2nd year guys can step up. I still want to see a WR early (but not too early) 2nd round would be fine for me.

I'm not sure you can say that about Allison given the injury last season. He was looking fine before he went down. I'm not sure that even the top contenders have a #3 that he doesn't stack up pretty well against.

Allison had 20 receptions for 303 yards with two touchdowns during the first five games of last season. If he can replicate those numbers over an entire year the Packers would be fine with him being the #2 receiver.

After more than a decade in the NFL, my brother, former #Packers & #Raiders WR @JordyRNelson is calling it a career. He’s stepping away from the game with more than 8,500 yards...72+ TD’s and as a SB Champion! I’m proud of him and happy for him and his family! #Ese#Respect

too bitter to retire a Packer i guess. oh well. was one of my all-time favs.

Why do you say that? Currently, he is a Free Agent, so he isn't affiliated with any team.

I fully expect him to sign a one day contract with the Packers and retire as a Packer. I could be wrong, but I doubt it. Jordy loved Green Bay and Green Bay loved him.

Jordy doesn't seem like the bitter, grudge holding person to begin with. And even if he was, I doubt he would be right now anyway.

i thought it because i figured if he was going to do it as a Packer the announcement would come from the Packers/Jordy not JJ. would be cool if he does it as a Packer.

I have been saying that for a couple years now.... Fact is. Allison is better than we think. He is getting the nod. That means he beat out all our other options.... How bad is he?

I want to see who steps up this year out of our great group of young wrs. Add TE and RB talent this year instead.

Jordy would be an excellent insurance policy...... The best..... Built in mojo.....

Apparently he understood what a few in here could not accept.

What's that? That he is coming home to Green Bay?

Guilty as charged officer. I was hoping he had 1-2 years left in the tank and he would finish his career in Green Bay. Given that he has a family, probably financially set forever and sees that he is ending his career relatively healthy and productive, leaving the game wasn't too difficult of a decision for him.

The hard part is for fans, players and management alike to know when 1-2 years left is not worth it. Gute recognizing this and not extending an aging veteran who maybe had another year left (last year) is a good indication of his talent evaluation IMO.

I hope he comes back for a one day deal like John Kuhn.

Yes and No. Seemed Jordy was prepared to play another season with the Raiders, but they cut him after trading for Antonio Brown and signing FA WR Tyrell Williams. Jordy still played at a relatively high level last season and who knows what he would have done this year. Had Jordy been resigned by the Packers last year, it's anybodies guess as to how much longer he might have played and at what level.

I think you'd agree that 740 yards and 3 TDs for Jordy is not playing at a high level. He last played at a high level in 2016. Based on his stats, he's obviously declined. Guys like Jordy who've honed their craft can probably churn out a few TD's a year and 600+ yards for the next 5 years. How valuable is that to a team though?

Hope to see him in the Packer HOF. He was probably one of the best I've seen with circus catches on the sideline and with the back shoulder pass.

While I wouldnt be surprised if he could still perform as a pure slot receiver catching balls from say Aaron Rodgers or maybe elsewhere I have to imagine that 33 year year old Jordy Nelson having recently torn an ACL doesnt want to go through that kind of a beating at this point in his career. Also I didnt hear of any interest from the Packers.

I hope we offer him an internship stat. Would probably do Aaron some good to have an old friend back with the team.
