Possible NFL Playoff Expansion for 2020

like I said, minimum 30K to each player even if they lose on each roster and only goes up from there. It's not insignificant. I guess that's not revenue to the league so the money wasn't real.

I can guarantee they won't be getting rid of any playoff games because they aren't worth holding because they don't make enough "revenue" LOL

Maybe they figure its like taxes, once its there it never goes away. Add 2 games this year because of covid and next year conveniently forget it was just supposed to be temporary. Pretty soon everyone is like "what do you mean back when it was only 6? Its always been 8 hasn't it?"

Not quite. IIRC about 34 slots go to the conference champions - most use the conference tournament, some use regular season champion. College BB at least lets teams play there way in, like the NFL does. College football? You cannot play your way in, just out.

30K for a playoff game is less than the minimum for a regular season game. I guess that should be considered peanuts in the grand scheme of things.

I'm not talking about the NFL reducing the playoff teams to 12 again. I'm well aware that won't happen.

I'm talking about the idea of adding another two playoff teams for this season to increase the total to 16, which was the reason this thread was revived at some point this week.

ok, so why do you think they're talking about adding another game this year? I guarantee they will never cut out a playoff game because they don't make enough money. Why in a year where they have us convinced that holding games is dangerous and very difficult and must be held with the utmost and stringent protocols in place or it risks submarining the entire operation, why add another thing that could sink it? I guarantee it's for money. for this year and going forward.

The NFL will most likely exercise their option to add another week of regular season football in 2021, creating way more revenue than playing two additional playoff games in empty stadiums this season.

I definitely don't see the need to expand the playoff field to 16 teams in the middle of the season this year.

Though I bet 2 playoff games will have more money surrounding it than 2 regular season games

While that's definitely true in an ordinary season a regular season game with fans being allowed to attend creates more revenue than a postseason contest behind closed doors.
