Dud: Offense and Nixon. Lafleur for not going two TE heavy. Bisaccia sucks or is just average. I'm not sure.
Stud: Jacobs, Whelan. Hafley. We finally had the defense, but the offense was brutal.

Since we appear to be all in on Love, Gutey better stock the shelves for him next year to make his job easy. Gutey needs to re-stock CB, WR, and O-line. Similar to last year, with the addition of WR. Maybe Malik (or Jaire) get us something to help in trade.

Gute needs to restock the Packers with more TOUGHNESS
If you mean mental toughness I'll agree. They still make too many mistakes. But I'll not question their physical toughness. Nobody quit in the face of all kinds of challenges today. It was nightmarish to watch our guys dropping like flies. And when they did we didn't have the depth to handle it. By the end of the game our OL was in tatters and we only had 3 WRs in uniform. Quay got hurt again too. With all of this perhaps it is merciful we don't have to play next week.

Think that starts at the top and MLF hasn't exactly brought the fire and thunder.

Dan Campbell brings that fire everyday and the players feed off of that energy. Other than MLF complaining to the refs he's very bland on the sidelines.

Love also seems pretty bland on the field. Maybe that's a refection of his coach, I don't know. It's good that he keeps his cool, but I would like to see some fire out of him now and then (talking about Love here). Tom Brady showed it, and I understand he had some small measure of success.

I think it's pretty immaterial. Jeff George showed a lot of it too. So did Ken O'Brien and Jim Harbaugh. Didn't really do much good for them.

How so, exactly? I mean, coverage has been good. Kicking has been good. What else can he control? Returns have sucked but the NFL has been hell-bent on ruining kickoff returns for a long time now. Speaking of which the new kickoff experiment has been an abject failure. They need to scrap it.

Dud: Yet another playoff game in the past decade where the Packers D plays a great game, and the O doesn't show up. Sadly, there will probably be more playoff games like this in the coming years, because Love isn't that good of a QB.

They have to be able to play smash mouth football from time to time. To do that you either have to leverage the 2 TEs or get a FB. The 2nd and short to Jacobs who loses like 6 yards going straight ahead means we do not have that ability. The 2 scrums to Kraft actually made us look competitive.

In the Rodgers era it was more the other way. We still have a lot of growing up to do.

Actually, I was thinking that statement reminded me of Rodgers. True, it was usually the defense that was the failure - which gave the impression that if we could just fix the defense we'd be okay. But then the defense would have a good game, and the offense would come up flat or missing. Part of that is the result of playing good defenses, but it is none the less frustrating.

Damn....didn't want that to be the final game we did a thread for this season...

Positive first,

STUDS
Josh Jacobs - folks I want this man with the G on his helmet for a LONG LONG time. It is a rare combo to have the explosion and the elusiveness AND the brahma bull mentality for contact like he does. He likely cannot keep this up forever, but I'm fine with finding out precisely how long that is.
Edgerrin Cooper - this young man continues to have game where he is delivering.
Evan Williams - don't like Cooper steal all the rookie highlights...cuz there is another one out there.

DUDS
Nixon - I feel bad, because I know and fully admit I harp on him more than most. In truth I just hate the current kick off rules truly, and believe there is NO reason to ever try a return and he never should have. Nixon is a perfect ST level guy who I don't want to see on defense unless needed...he's not terrible but I don't see it, he is constantly thinking of making a big play instead of the right play. That all said he did recover that ball.
OL as a unit...this unit was up against it today. Nolan Smith is a legit WR speed guy off edge in a 240 lb package....and some would say he isn't even their best pressure guy.
MLF/Love - I don't believe Love deserved a lone DUD and felt the same for MLF as well. This offense honestly until late was looking better than Philly's most of the game but could not turn it in to points...and that was even with turnovers happening (which watched the Baun INT again...Kraft doesn't fall and allow Baun to abandon his coverage assignment that isn't a freebie INT, it may not have been a completion but no one expected Baun to be there especially Love and I see why now).

Love isn't that good of a QB.

I have been wondering the same thing all season. Also, had the Packers not given him a new contract and played him on his 5th year deal, what would they be offering him now? We will never know. Maybe the same. He could be a great QB someday, but he wasn't this season.

That all said he did recover that ball.

I just don't understand how that wasn't overturned. Did replay not have the same overhead shot that FOX had? My god man, Nixon is laying there, on the ground, both arms wrapped around the football. Was he supposed to make a "football move" while pinned to the ground?

Nice bookend to the season, eh? Start with a loss to the Eagles, end with a loss to the Eagles.

Interesting final loss record for the Pack. 7 total loses, to 4 teams. I doubt that happens very often, if at all.

It reminded me of the days before instant replay, where there was a big pile and at the bottom they were fighting for the ball. It didn't matter then who had initial possession, what mattered was who had it after the refs pulled the rest of the players off.

Agree.

I still haven't heard/read whether the replay officials had the overhead look that FOX and all of us had, if they didn't, why not? If they did have that view, than someone needs to explain to me why they didn't rule that Nixon had regained control of the ball.

OK....enough venting. The real problem is Nixon and the return team, AKA Bisaccia. Given their propensity to commit a penalty, come up short of the 30 or fumble the ball, the Packers should have been doing their best to try and down the ball in their own EZ and take the ball at the 30.

That is how Reggie White got his fumble recoveries. He was so strong he would just peel the ball out when nobody was looking.

Matt believes the refs botched the fumble recovery call as well. Glad it was mentioned in the article, because I saw it as well. Not only did Nixon recover his own fumble, but Burks could/should have gotten called for a helmet to helmet hit on the play.

Here is the kickoff, as analyzed by Jackson Krueger. Krueger obviously doesn't have the overhead view like FOX had, which showed Nixon roll onto his back, with both arms still wrapped around the ball.
