Just curious why players like Revis, who do what 99% of America does and try to make the money they're worth, get a bad rap in the NFL? When did it become a rule that the players had to give up money so that billionaire owners could make more money?

I don't think he gets a bad rap because of the money he makes. Doesn't he have somewhat of an attitude problem? I'm pretty sure there were reported problems in both NY and NE. Didn't he have problems in NE with being late or missing practices?

1. The 99%ers, when looking for an increase, are trying to accumulate enough to support a family and retire in something above a cardboard box. These guys, and particularly those who've been paid like Revis, long ago amassed enough to be able to support themselves, their hangers-on, and my school district for the rest of their lives. I hope I remember correctly that Jordy once said "how much money do you really need?".

2. Do the billionaire owners get to keep that money? I thought the millionaires union had some kind of a clause that requires the owners to spend it. What they save on Revis has to go to a poorer millionaire, doesn't it?

Greg Schiano was the Bucs head coach during the only season Revis was playing in Tampa Bay.

Ahh, I live in Tampa, the city and people have gone to great lengths to forget about that guy.

Coach might have been off but Schiano DID have Revis playing off coverage in his time here.

Lovie coming in as coach does sort of invalidate the idea that Revis could have stayed in Tampa. No way Lovie pays that much for a corner in his system.

What about someone like Bruce Carter? He played well for the Cowboys at ILB before they moved to the 4-3 and stuck him on the outside. Could be worth a one year deal if the price is right.

Carter has signed a four-year, $20.5 million deal with the Buccaneers.

People who take it upon themselves to decide how much other people need or how much money they should make are known as 'socialists' or 'communists'.
They are also very often people of extreme power and wealth who usually have done nothing to deserve their wealth or status, and consider themselves to not be liable to be held to the standards they hold everyone else to.

Tramon Williams is visiting the Browns today.
It appears he's going to keep looking until somebody beats the Packers number which, according to reports, is 2 years for $4 mil per year. That's cheap for a cover corner, particularly for a guy who can swing between cover and nickel for depth.

At 32 years old tomorrow, he's not going to get a 4 year deal, but a 3 year deal or a better 2 year deal is not out of the question.

As teams reassess their personnel with the FA agent board picked clean, with some missing out on recent CB bids, it's likely one of the other 31 teams will better that Packer offer as the smoke clears.

He is going to be going to a crap team at this rate though.
So it goes.

He has a ring, he's not playing for the Hall of Fame, he presumably wants to play as a starter, get paid as such, and he evidently wants to maximize his earnings as his career winds down. It's not hard to figure.

If the Packer offer was light on guarantees, which I would surmise to be the case given the reported term and the amount, he might not have a fuzzy feeling his job would be secure anyway.

Given the low Williams offer and zero Thompson activity in FA, it's looking more and more as if the team is comfortable with Hayward taking over cover corner. Again, given the low offer, Williams is not seen a core player and even if he came back he'd likely be in a competitive position with Hayward (and maybe even a day 1 or day 2 pick to boot). He might even get plugged into the nickel role. That prospect might not be appealing.

I'm seeing no reports of Thompson taking any meetings so far as in past years. In the past, Thompson's brought in guys like Steven Jackson and Chris Canty for meetings, seasoned vets of some accomplishment with some tread still on the tires, at a time when they would have filled positions of need. Not so far this year.

Speaking of Canty, he's a free agent, and if memory serves Thompson talked to him both times he was a FA, after 2008 and 2012. He clearly liked the player as recently as 2013. Without Guion playing some DE in base, there's no strong side DE run defender on the roster. I think we can all agree Datone Jones has been disappointing in that role. Boyd? Ho hum.

Thompson throwing a somewhat better than minimum vet contract on the table for Canty for at least a season or two of depth is the kind of deal I'd expect him to make in free agency, though this particular deal is for illustration purposes only.

Teams are about done shaking their overpriced and unaffordable players out of their rosters. It was on this date last year that Peppers was signed, about a week after being cut loose by Chicago. Time is expiring.

According to sources the Ravens are interested in Tramon Williams as well.

DuJuan Harris has signed a contract with ... yes, you guessed it correctly... the Vikings.

Quite a gamble to take with the team's title chances. When you have to many if's and hopes, your odds of success decrease.

I'm not sure the story is finished yet. They may wait till free agency prices drop. The first flurry of FAs are always very pricey. But it is risky to let the secondary get weaker.

As I´ve posted several times so far IMO it would be a major disappointment if Thompson doesn´t even address a single position of need in free agency. There´s no way to predict how the draft actually plays out and entering it with as many question marks on defense as of now it´s possible not being able to upgrade all of them.

I'm very surprised he hasn't made one outside move yet and I'm really racking my brain to try and figure out why. What is the plan for the $20+M he has? Daniels extension? Work on the extensions for the large amount of upcoming free agents we have in 2017? I mean what is the plan?

I thought only x amount of $ could be rolled over is that accurate? And let's just say the extensions are what the plan is, that would all be new money correct and wouldn't even affect this year?

Again, I've said it before and I'll say it again, I 100% agree with this style of business in the NFL but I an shocked he hasn't made one move yet.

My main concern with relying on the draft is that it's been talked to death that Capers' style of defense doesn't work well with young players. I had thought perhaps the Packers were taking that into account when they brought in Peppers but apparently that was simply an anomaly.

Teams can roll over their entire available salary cap space into the next year. With the cap expected to raise significantly again for 2016 and only Daniels and possibly Hayward asking for lucrative contracts there´s no reason to save as much of it though.

The idea of hoarding as much cap space as possible to keep our own free agents next year doesn't pass muster so much with me.
There are no major contracts/ potential huge losses such as Cobb, Bulaga or Williams on next years list.
As of now, we're looking at 19 FA's, 11 of them UFA's in 2016. The biggest would be Daniels, Hayward and Crosby- no bank busters there. Next tier of guys we might like back but are replaceable- and again, no bank busters- would be Starks, Neal, Perry and possibly Barclay. And again, another big jump expected in the cap.

Whatcha think about Hayward? With how we lost House this year, would you be in favor of offering him an extension sooner rather than later? Maybe that is playing it a little too much like we did with Brad Jones...

He's a tough one, Nate. He seems limited to me- he seems to need to be put in only certain situations to succeed. He's very limited but a very instinctive, ball hawking type of player.
Offer him a contract that isn't in line with what Williams and House got, and see what he thinks, although I don't see him going for it.
What I think is best is what I think will happen; see how he does this season.

That's a tough call. The Packers could probably extend him for a smaller contract this offseason than after the 2015 season if Hayward turns out to be a bona fide starter on the outside. The move is risky though as it's possible Hayward will never be able to start opposite Shields.

These guys are going to stop taking hometown discounts when they see TT try to roll over 15+mil. Saving some for next year is fine but hoarding it for the sake of hoarding it is a little odd. If he was going to do that he should have just front loaded the crap out of Cobb's deal.

He still has Raji and Guion and KUHN to sign.
