I really wish he would have ended on a make yesterday. It's like there are magnets in the goal posts and the balls are made of metal this year. None of his kicks look good. Sure a couple have, but most seem to move a lot and hook and curve and start one way and come back another etc on their way to the goal posts and they're rarely in the middle. Usually sucked to one goalpost or the other and just squeaking in. or out. or directly into it.

It's very possible this is Crosby's last year with the Packers, no doubt about it. It all depends on what they do during the off season, when it comes to rebuilding. With Rodgers more than likely gone, possibly Adams gone, along with others, a new kicker could be found. Why not? It would be time. It would be part of the rebuild.

Until then, he's still our kicker, and yesterday he made 3 out of 4. There's a lot of season left, and he and his teammates have two weeks to get things corrected. Let's hope it happens.

It seems like almost every miss and every close one is to the left. I think he should start aiming a little to the right.

Here's what I hope happens, we win the SB and Green Bay approaches Crosby with the option to retire a Packer or be cut. I think if we win and given the year Mason has had, he'd take the ride out a winner, all time Packer scorer and SB champ - I don't suspect he would have many if any suitors to play elsewhere now.

The retire or be cut conversation could still occur for sure even without a SB...but would be much harder of a situation, BUT could we also see if we don't win a SB a Rodgers, Adams, Cobb, Crosby willing to deal for another shot at "the last ride?" who knows.

Interesting perspective on that last ride. If we're dreaming, we should do it big. It's like a friend of mine once told me; "I play the lottery to win the big prize, not to get the right last number and two-bucks! I think he had something there!

Unless Crosby gets injured or tanks even worse, the Packers aren't switching kickers during a 9-3 season. Much like after Crosby's horrendous 2012 season, I expect that they will have at least 1-2 guys kicking against him for the job. His salary will definitely play into it. Now if a top College kicker is available in the 6th or 7th round, with all the draft picks that the Packers should have, I can see going that route and all be seal Crosby's fate.

I'm definitely reasonably almost sure of 2 things. Crosby will finish the year as our kicker and next year there will be real competition brought in and he's going to have to prove he's worth the money and the roster spot to be our kicker next year.

It is obvious what the problem with Mason is, his pad level is too high. :coffee:
He needs to turn his pads in for depenz. That might give him a confidence boost to make it through without a mishap.
I Swear I’d say that to his face just to shake him up and get this monkey off his back. Maybe a good brawl with him on the ground is just what would break the curse!

The Crosby cult is strong here. Nobody dare criticize him
I think you are mistaking fans having realistic view points as somehow being a religion.

I have asked you twice, now 3 times, if you were Gute, what's your move?

I know you just like to complain, but try adding something new to the discussion, other than telling us we are in a cult.

Replacing Crossbar at this point in the season assumes he can't get back in the groove. If I were Gute, I would remain patient. While Mason has hit many uprights and crossbars in his tenure, he's also booted some really big walk off kicks. I want someone who knows how to kick a clutch fg and not a Cody "double doink" Parkey or Blair Walsh.

I'll stick with Crosby. He's still one of the more dependable kickers in the NFL. I can't think of too many of them out there that I'd be willing to let kick that 50 yard FG to win the game for me. I'd trust that Mason would give us a good shot of getting that win.

Just because he's missed some kicks this year doesn't mean he suddenly lost it all. A lot of things contributed to it happening. We might be darned glad we have him before this season is over.

There's absolutely no doubt that Crosby hasn't been dependable over the past eight games. Since making the first nine field goals of the season he's only been 9-of-18 the rest of the way.

With that being said it hasn't been all his fault as the long snapper and holder need to improve as well.

I wouldn't read too much into that. It's something that quite a few teams are doing due to Covid. Using 1 of 16 spots on the PS and protecting that player, a kicker, is kind of a no-brainer when Covid could cost you your kicker before you have time to bring in a new one from off the street.

Yet this week only four teams protected a kicker on their practice squad.

I think they do that mainly for injuries. And that sounds reasonable to me. Why scramble around for someone when he can be right there on the PS.

And it is very difficult to make a change this late in the season. Now if he was bad the entire season then the Packers would be in a dilemma. He had that streak going for so long. He nailed some big ones in Frisco and in Cincy early. And then things started to slide. His experience is still crucial in the postseason if the snapper, the holder, and him can get into at least a consistent groove. He made that crucial long one in Seattle that got us to OT in 2014. And he made those 2 in Dallas as well. I think next year is a different story. I think back to 1964 and why we finished 8-5-1 and second to the Baltimore Colts. You can put the finger on Paul Hornung who was our kicker as he had been prior to his suspension, injuries, and military service for years. The man went 12-38!!! 31.6%! And he missed 2 extra points from the 10 yard line! He killed us. And Lombardi did not get a FT kicking specialist until the next season when he got Don Chandler. There is a time to pull the plug and there is a time to keep it in.

I'm not advocating for the Packers to move on from Crosby at this point but the entire unit needs to improve over the bye week to have me feel confident in them once again. While he has been excellent in the playoffs in the past that doesn't guarantee to carry over into this year by any means.
