I agree but it seems to me a lot of people are ready to elevate him as high as #3 based on what he has done at WR.

Personally, I'm ready to see any of our receivers be elevated to the #3 spot. I just don't think any of the guys in the conversation can be considered a lock or even "good for sure" options at this point. Each one of them has question marks. How many here felt more confident in Adams for that spot this time last year then they do now? Who thinks Abby will stay healthy? Who feels Janis has learned the playbook and how to run routes enough to shine? Will Monty be 100% and continue what he started? Who is Davis? The only other receiver on the roster in the last 6 months that I would be remotely confident as being a solid #3 would be James Jones, but I won't start that debate back up. :D

What I am confident in, is having AR behind center and his ability to make an average wide receiver look good. So along with having AR at QB, Jordy on one side and Cobb in the slot, the table is pretty well set up and its all up to the rest of the group to fight for that #3 spot.

Agree with your basic premise but do not agree about Jones and I hate to say it but even Rodgers could not make our receiving corp look good last year. But I do think a big part of that was Jones' inability to do anything other than run up the sideline. That really helps to simplify things for the defense.

While I agree with the premise that Jones is by no way a suitable #1, which is basically what he was asked to be last year, I do believe he can do more then just run up the sideline and as a #3 (with Jordy and Cobb), he would put up similar numbers to what he did last year.

But again, didn't want to open the Jones rant back up. :D Was just saying, our current roster has a #3 spot which IMO is WIDE open.

OK no more about Jones. Your right...we need a number 3 to step up.

I think Adams is going to bounce back and be he guy he was drafted to be. Between him and a healthy Montgomery, i think we'll be better than OK at that position. Of course everyone has something to prove this year, but I do think they have what they need to blow this league up

All those comments were from one poster. The other end of the spectrum outside of that one poster is Janis has only had one good game and couldn't see the field bc he didn't run the right routes.

If you wanna call me out call me out. I don't mind, lol.

Still I am firm with my point. Janis is a one trick pony from a lower level of competition that for some reason for 2 seasons has only maintained a roster spot because of ST performance. Call a spade a spade. Like someone else said, EVERY other WR was given some time to shine until he was the last resort. There were one trick ponies that were drafted in the 1st Round this year, but they played top level competition in Power 5 conferences.

I fully support Geronimo replacing Janis because he played big time football against big time competition. He can run routes. Regardless of his ability to create separation, which Janis can based on measureables but a good route runner can make turn a world class speedster into burnt toast if opportunity strikes. When you play Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State, Iowa, and Nebraska on a routine tilt and you come up with nearly 900 yards, that says something. If he got it done there after a good 2 years in the Packers system if he survives camp, I doubt we'll have this conversation about Allison.

However, all that aside even if Allison or even Davis are more polished WRs coming in, Janis should easily dispatch them with his knowledge of the system. But if AR is still getting frustrated with Janis in his third year for not knowing his assignments, then I just doubt he'll get it.

While I agree that Bush was a below average cornerback you should give him credit for his interception in Super Bowl XLV. He read the play perfectly and stepped in front of the receiver intercepting the ball. Nice play.

Guess I was just remembering the result, which was him getting hit in the chest with the ball. If that was because of what you say, good on him.

If a db has more picks in the regular season than a guy has catches he probably had more impact plays.

Wimm was right about his int. It was a very good play by a below average cb. Similar to Janis hail Mary. Not sure how someone can take away from an interview for being lucky but promote Janis whose two big catches came on hail Mary type throws.

The post in question was comparing receiver touchdowns to DB interceptions.

Yeah the td to int numbers were in Bush's favor. If you add in the other way a defensive player can have an impact than his two forced fumbles and 1.5 sacks with his 5 ints to Janis 2 tds it seems very much in Bush's favor. Yes his career was longer but he obviously was more of an impact outside of special teams than Janis has been. I thought the 4 regular season catches to 4 regular season ints was a good example of that. That is fine if you disagree

Eh I want to hear about his play actually running the routes. Of course one can infer some improvement from that play. Janis didn't beat Sam Shields by just running in a straight line, he gained those steps by selling a shorter route at some point in that play.
And the way I read the article, if Shields catches the ball or knocks it down, this is a non-story. Janis caught it on the ricochet, he was boxed out and didn't out muscle or out jump Sam. Good hand eye coordination on the follow through, maybe the DB's should learn to juggle too.

And when he was finally given that opportunity against the Cardinals, he had a better game than any of the others who were put before him. In fact, if not for him, we probably get blown out in that game.

BTW, the NFL is full of players who never played D-I football. Pierre Garcon played D-III and I don't think anyone would have complained if we had signed him instead of the Redskins a few years ago. And there are plenty of D-I WRs who get drafted and go BUST.

I'm fine with Janis being a starting WR, as long as he can put up the kind of #'s he did against AZ every game he plays. Now if you are an NFL coach and really believe that those stats are indicative of what Janis will do every game, then good luck.

Actually we lose by 7. We don't get blown out as 101 of his yards came on the final drive on an add lib play with Rodgers scrambling and a hail mary. It's outstanding that people are hanging their hats on those two plays so very much. Guess we shouldn't have signed cook as the RR Hail Mary reception against the Lions should just prove his ability to get deep.

It's a pretty safe bet that alot of WRs could've filled his production up till that point considering we only had 2 other WRs left

If you play W.R. you have to run up the sidelines. As well as be clutch and get the catches. On both the short and the long passes. You have to do it all. Not just one over the other.

I don't post much...mostly lurking but it's good to hear that he caught the Hail Mary. My question is if he is still struggling to feel comfortable running routes then maybe Luke Getsy should spend some more 1:1 time with him.

I don't think more one on one time with Getsy will help Janis learn the playbook. He has to get that done on his own.

Allison is extremely slow for a receiver and will have trouble separating from defensive backs in the NFL. With him not being extremely strong I have a hard time believing he's able to turn into a decent possession receiver.

Garcon had 47 receptions for 765 yards and four touchdowns in his second season though. It seems he was able to grasp the playbook way faster than Janis.

Exactly. Before the Packers last drive against the Cardinals Janis had five receptions for 44 yards which was pretty similar to Abbrederis' numbers (4-55).

The thing I liked was I saw Janis catching with his hands. We shall see. And one on one help sure would not hurt. Maybe he needs to see things from a different perspective. I am thinking Adams. But obviously he needs to hold on to the ball. All of the receivers offer something. It is up to the coaches to use their strengths and not ask them to do things that take them way out of their comfort zone.

Was that on all 11 of his catches or just the majority of them. I know he has had some pre season receptions as well but my point is I don't see how anyone can say, with the limited production he has had, that Jeff Janis deserves to be elevated over any other WR on the Packers roster. Does he deserve the shot? of course he does and he will get it but to say he CAN do this or he HAS done that is ridiculous but he hasn't really done anything. What he did against the Cardinals made a lot of people sit up and take notice but it was still just one game. I've said it before and I'll say it again you could take pretty much any WR drafted in the 7th round who was not injured in his first 2 years with his team and put together a highlight reel to rival Janis' minus the two Hail marys which the vast majority of WRs, regardless of their draft position, will never see.

Other than my first sentence gopkrs I wasn't really referring to your comments, just some general comments that a lot of Janis supporters are making.

Poker, if Jeff played at that pace for 16 regular season games that would be
96 receptions for 1,664 yards and 16 TDs and 17.3 YPC (I'm going to exclude his 41 yard TD clutch Game tying Score for sake of argument)
I'd like to see a respectable 50+ catches for 700+ yds and 5+ TDs and I would be happy

All I remember Sschind was that I was impressed that a couple of times he really went after the ball with his hands and made the catch. Because the rap on him (in my mind) was that he doesn't. Thanx for making that final comment in your reply. That said, I am hoping Adams can reach deep and find concentration so he can catch the ball consistently. He needs to do it from the get go.

I agree that Janis caught the ball away from his body during the Cardinals game and ran crisper routes than before. He has to continue to improve in those areas though.

It could be that Janis knows the playbook pretty well but is very inconsistent in executing the adjustments and technical skills that would put him in the position Rodgers expects him to be in on a consistent basis. I think James Jones had his share of problems in this regard throughout the years. One should not assume that every NFL receiver can fit well in the Green Bay offense.

With several reports of Janis running the wrong therefore ending up on a spot Rodgers doesn't expect him to I assume he hasn't grasped the playbook so far.

Right, my point was, some seem to think Janis earned a starting spot based on his performance in AZ last January, skewed stats and all. Personally, I don't think those stats are indicative of what you would expect to see every game from him, nor a reason to elevate him to being a starter. People need to remember to look at his entire body of work.
