We’re making progress early. I likey!

These moves weren’t without due diligence. There was an entire panel, there were player interviews, exit interviews, statisticians, you name it. I sincerely don’t believe anyone got trigger happy just because a new Sherriff is in town.

I think this was thoroughly thought out with several backup options. So far these were believed to be the primary culprits that defined “complacency”. Even the casual spectator could’ve watched this year and came to similar conclusions.

That also doesn’t mean Charles Woodson was wrong. He’s basing much of his knowledge from 7-10 years ago. That’s an eternity in this league. Eddie Lacy was a Rook while Charles was fading out of the picture if that puts things in perspective. I guess he could also say Eddie Lacy is a serious threat at RB! That was then this is now.
I respect Charles opinion, but even he must admit he hasn’t been in the league for years and a lot changes year to year.

Honestly, I'm hoping he stays at Wisconsin long enough to take over for Chryst the day that comes. Might be a while, but still. Jim loves Wisconsin and I could see him sticking it out.
Would be nice, but Paul Chryst loves Madison, WI even more and he isn't as old as you would think, 53. So as long as he continues to do what he has been doing, he may be the HC a long time. Maybe Leonhard will get out and cut his teeth as a HC at a smaller school and end up back with the Badgers eventually, but his future is bright.

The decision on Campen and QB coach Frank Cignettiis now seem to be the two biggest decisions left as far as who stays. I think Campen is safer than Frank. FC has a long and decent resume, but given that MLF is a former QB coach, he may have a better guy in mind that he wants to work with him and Rodgers.

Had to share this, it is a quick read and has to be THE worst read I have set my eyes on in a long time. Did the guy writing it have something pre-written to just plop Whitt's name into? The article makes absolutely no sense if its suppose to be about why Whitt was fired.

Guessing he knows absolutely nothing about the Packers or football for that matter and saw "Passing Game Coordinator" misstated by Adam Schefter and assumed Whitt was an offensive coach?

It looks like it was written by a 3rd grader. What’s funny is that even some of the posters in this forum that I have disagreed with the most, have been able to articulate their message and stay on point better than this guy.

Apparently Campen will interview with the Browns?

I don't want Campen to leave but it does intrigue me as to what the plan is.

My conspiracy is that Petals is talking with Kubiak about being OC. Kubiak as OC of the Broncos fell through in part because he wanted Dennison rehired (most recently OL coach of the Jets). Maybe the plan is to bring Kubiak and let him bring in his own guy.

Kubiak and Pettine as coordinators would be so sweet. Neither want their own job, so you could build some serious staff continuity and consistency.

Doesn't sound like the plan is to retain Campen or maybe Campen doesn't want to stay or he just wants to explore other options?

I think if the Packers wanted him to stay and Campen was on board with that, this interview wouldn't be taking place.

I like Campen, but it appears that the Packers are probably cutting ties with "MM guys" and he would be the last long term one to go.

Reportedly things fell through with Kubiak as Denver's OC. If they part ways, he and the Packers are a perfect fit.

Petals (which I just decided is what I shall call our head coach) needs some experience in the building, he and Kubiak run the same basic offense, and Kubiak wants low stress. A non-playcalling OC seems pretty low stress.

It's better than Pepe LaFleur which I had heard has been bandied about. I think Rodell may have started that one.

I think it was more of a case of I once again get to print my opinions about Aaron Rodgers and the Packers offense under the guise of a new coaching change article

I saw confirmed what we had all basically figured-- the Packers are blocked on any SF assistants. That's a bummer on McDaniel, who sounds like a promising coach, but probably for the best ultimately as I think the end game there probably would have been Petals hiring his brother.

Of the possible OC candidates out there, I would rank them thus:

1. Kubiak
2. Monken

3. Hackett

They've interviewed Monken and Hackett. The only team that Kubiak has been specifically connected to is Jacksonville, but it's reported that multiple teams are in pursuit.

What would be so fascinating about Monken is how much he prizes the deep passing game. The NFL leaders in 2018 in air yards per attempt were BOTH Buccaneers-- Ryan Fitzpatrick and Jameis Winston, at 8.8 and 8.4 respectively (3rd was Russell Wilson, with a healthy drop down to 7.3).

Matt Ira LaFleur ...****

Easy to remember, fun to say and grabs peoples attention.

And....will bring a lot of new young fans to Green Bay.

We need something that's functional. If you watched Monken's offense, it was clearly more operable thanMcCarthy's. And they're going to run LaFleur's offense, not Monken's. But it would be interesting to see how the latter's influence would factor.

The Packers threw deep a lot when they were one of the top offenses in the NFL. Rodgers needs to take the dump off more but he also needs to be taking deep shots. They need to get the middle of the field back. They lost the deep post/slant they used to hit a lot to Jennings and Nelson

The Packers now have the Speedster TE Robert Tonyan for the 54 yard bombs!

Rodgers did hit a few long balls this year, although not sure how many of the total yds were YAC.
  • Monty:43 yds
  • MVS: 60
  • EQ: 54
  • Davante: 57
  • Graham: 54
  • Cobb: 75
  • Allison: 64
  • Kumerow: 49
  • Tonyan: 54

The issue with Kubiak is he had strong feelings about who his assistants would be. If that doesn't jive with Lafleur, I dunno that he'd be the fit.

How does keeping Pettine, a guy who's had but one year to try and change 9 years of bad that Capers brought in here make a HC Murphy's puppet? He also got hamstrung by Whitt last year because MM decided he had to either become DC or get promoted. He no longer has to worry about that and can potentially get his own secondary coach in here.

I know you were talking about McDaniels bringing Lovie Smith or Spagnuola in here to be our DC, but you forget something. They both run 4-3 defenses which we don't currently have the personnel for, and implementing their schemes would have taken at least a year or two to try and grow into.

We kept Pettine for good reason because the D did show some improvements and in this second year I think it will get even better.
The only way our defense gets better if we cut everyone not named Clark Daniels Alexander breeland can stay and Martinez will make a decent 2nd mlb everyone else TATA!!!

I’ll give Kevin King one more season. If he gets hurt and only plays 4 or 5 games next season then I’m done with him.

King reminds me just a bit of our venture with Tony Mandarich...so much promise, but like Tony I think he was destined for failure before he was even drafted. Not enough vetting on his physical issues. From memory what sucked for me about that draft was that TJ Watt fell into our laps at #29, a player we desperately needed, but TT traded back and got King and Vince Biegel out of the deal :(
