Yeah I think a lot of the reason for Ty being lined up in the backfield is to ensure that he's able to get on the field. To wimm's point, the other 4 receivers we have occupying those positions are stronger suited to flourish in those roles. Ty brings a unique set of skills, no doubt. But I think he's much better equip getting some carries out of the backfield, and then motioning him out to present a mismatch for opposing defenses.

That said, Ty's workload needs to be managed better moving forward.

I truly believe the coaching staff feeling comfortable about Montgomery currently presenting the best option at running back is the main reason for him getting that many snaps.

Not terribly surprised that the rookie RB’s are slowly being worked in. Looks like Mays is likely to get a few snaps this week if Williams/Montgomery aren’t ready.

I definitely expected the rookie running backs to receive more playing time during the first three weeks of the season. It was surprising to see Montgomery lead the league by a wide margin in snaps played early this year.

Will be interesting to see what McCarthy is going to do to keep Lawrence in check. Could we see more snaps from Ripkowski? Running plays directly at Lawrence? Rodgers rolling out to the left?

The Packers getting Bakhtiari and Bulaga back would definitely help to contain Lawrence.

No disrespect to Ty, but we need a true RB. I'm not saying Ty shouldn't run the ball, he should. Having him in the backfield is problematic for defenses. He'd be a great change of pace back. But I don't think he should be the primary back b/c he's just not built to take the punishment. Plus, he's an excellent receiver that we need in the line-up every day.

Monty is 6'0 and I bet he's close to 225.

His build is just fine.

I realize that a FB isn't always the most exciting option. But this scenario is exactly why you keep a quality veteran FB like Ripkowski and divide the workload in short yardage until a Halfback rises to the occasion.

While it's nice to have a fullback capable of carrying the ball in short yardage situations teams need a running back shouldering the majority of the workload. FWIW Ripkowski has only a single rushing attempt this season for whatever reason.

Maybe he is having problems holding on to the ball? He showed real strength last year. I think he will get more carries as the season progresses.

Aaron Jones is our guy. I don't care what Captain says, if I was MM I'm sticking Montgomery back out wide and giving Aaron Jones and Ripkowski all the carries from here on out. And we don't need Lacy cuz we gotta guy who is as good as Darren Sproles.

Thought I'd give you an agree after all the recent red X's lol. I'm not sure I'd move Montgomery, but I would definitely like to see Jones get more carries.

He's gotta be the feature back from here on out, he has more agility than anyone else we've had recently.

Aaron Jones looks like The Man
So did Samkon Gado.
Gado received two NFL awards for his rookie performance:
  • NFL Offensive Rookie of the Month, November 2005
  • Rookie of the Week, Weeks 10 and 14
In addition, Gado holds the Green Bay franchise record for most rushing yards in a game for a rookie (171).
Let's see him do it against a complete defense.

Gado never looked like the man to me. Just a guy who the fans liked as the underdog and he did well. Jones might be the real deal.

I do need to see Jones do it again, but I think he can. He moves and reads things pretty well. Decisive, agile. I like what he can do

To be fair though our offense was struggling in the years Gado was here with Favre at the lowest level of play in his career in those two years. So ... I don't know how fair the comparison is.

Well Jones made me look like a fantasy guru today, after I picked him up on the waiver wire, and started him!

I am stoked to see Jones doing well. I always like the short rbs with low center of gravity. Just typically preferred thicker ,more powerful guys who still have the burst and agility of a smaller guy. The big 7th round bruiser mays would usually be my style of rb. But the short, quick guys tend to be able to hit the big plays more often. I'm leaning towards that lately...

Monty is my new prototype ,except the injury history. He is definitely still our best rb imo.
